Upgrading Aurora to 300i/325a/315p???

Sooo....

while im waiting for my installer to patch 10gb... I noticed that cross-chassis upgrades are now available on the store.

Im really tempted to upgrade my LTI Aurora MR to a 300i-series ship.

However, upon reviewing the updated ship stats page, I realise the Aurora is actually alot closer to the 300i baseline model than i thought it was.

My intent for this ship is as a general working vehicle, when I am bored of hardcore dogfighting combat in my Super Hornet, or simply when I want some alone time, exploring the galaxy while remaining defensible.

The biggest surprise to me is the Aurora's cargo space in comparison to the 300i. A baseline Aurora MR has the SAME amount of cargo space as the 300i series, barring the 315p.

MOREOVER, the Aurora LN seems to be able to pack a much more substantial punch, with 2xs2 class 1 mounts more than ALL the 300 series ships.

Another surprising thing (Ive never really looked much at 300i specs, am a Hornet man myself) is that I realised that the 325a literally only has the "custom weapons system" as an advantage over the stock 300i. Max weapon loadout, powerplant, thruster size, are all the same.

In this respect, I am left wondering HOW IS THE 315p NOT CLEARLY THE MOST SUPERIOR IN THE SERIES??!?! It has the same capacity as the 300i and 325a, PLUS added cargo space....

The only reason I can see myself getting a 325a is for the killer black paint scheme....

Any points? Comments? I am kind of lost now....

The 325A is a super combat craft to the 315P.  While the 315P has a larger stock engine and power plant, the 325A will have better stock weapons and shields.  If you want a ship moreso for exploring, go with the 315P.  The 325A probably brings better stock weapons than the Aurora LN.  The 315P is probably the most versatile of all the 300i ships.  For the PU, I would consider having a backup for your Super Hornet.  In the case your Super Hornet gets destroyed, it'll take some time to replace it.  If you want to continue to do some combat, you'll need a backup.  Case-in-point, get the 315P if you want to go more into exploring or get the 325A if you want a nice backup for your Super Hornet.

Superb i cant wait for the Aurora to Avenger Updates or maybe a downgrade would be nice from Freelancer to 300I or towards the Avenger

The Avenger upgrade will probably appear when the Avenger appears in AC :).  I doubt they will let you downgrade your ship, but you can probably email CS about it

Before being too hasty changing your ship, wait till they add them all to the Arena Commander. Try going head to head with a 300 series with your Aurora before jumping over to the Origin ships. There is no need to be hasty :P

The aurora looks like it will be the jack of all trades of the starter ships. So you have to remember that with that there is not a lot of really good specialization. and as stated by others if you are looking for explorations definitely go with the 315 but for combat go for the 325.

Remember "Jack of all trades master of none".

I have been looking at upgrading my 300i, and I think I will go for the 315p as it has more cargo capacity, a tractor beam and a jump drive.

The 325a is more expensive and the difference is such:

315p vs 325a

24 units vs 16 units - Less cargo on 325a

Tractor beam vs Klaus & Werner Sledge II - 1 extra weapon on 325a

Gordon Defender Allstop Vs Gordon Defender Forcewall - better shield on 325a

Dragon Stellar STC Silver (TR4) Vs Hammer Propulsion HE 5.3 (TR3) - Probably weaker propulsion engine on 325a, but more maneuverable.

Alliance Startech K3S9-2 (3) Vs Wei-Tek WHT2 Plus (2) -  Stronger(?) powerplant on 325p, with no extra weight. Probably needed for scanning and jump drive

I can imagine that the shield and weapon shouldn't be to hard to upgrade on the 315p, but the propulsion engine might be more difficult (if you want to have the extra mobility). And there are the software modules that are exploration focused on the 315p and combat focused on the 325a as well.

I think I will go for the 325p as it is a more independent ship (more cargo, jumping, longer range) than the others. And anything LTI will probably be upgraded to better weapons and shields quickly to have a chance against other souped up players and so you won't have much advantage there. But an LTI light transport that can quickly cross the galaxy will probably something that is always nice to have on standby.

Although I would love to have some feedback on my assumptions.

Hails All I went with the 315P for the exploring and an Avenger for when I have to fight. I'm not real sure it's the right choice but it feels right to me.

I like the 315Ps options of tractor and lr scanning as well as the Jump drive.  I'm not sure about the others having one, as I did not see it in the specs when i was checking them out.

The Avenger seems like a better dogfighter to me but that's just my opinion. Any input either pro or con would be appreciated.

I'm still trying to figure out if I made the right choices.
