Buying LTI

The supposed in-universe explanation for why it takes time for larger ships to be replaced by insurance is that virtually every item in the game, from ships to weapons to clothes, is generated by the game's economy system. That means that a replacement ship doesn't magically appear the instant a player's ship is destroyed and he/she respawns. The replacement ship must be built by the manufacturer. And all of the materials and components must be available up and down the supply chain, otherwise the ship cannot be built. Presumably the player won't have to wait for the entire production process -- they'll simply receive the next available ship that rolls off the assembly line.

For single-person ships like the Aurora, hundreds are probably produced every hour, so a player should receive their replacement ship instantly. Whereas larger ships, like a Constellation or Starfarer, would take longer to build, so there won't be a new one produced every minute; which is why it could take a few hours until the replacement is available. It might take a day or two for an Idris to be completed (which is actually incredibly fast considering the 240-metre-long frigate is the size of a 60 story office building).

CIG has apparently thought out all of this. The real question is whether it'll all work as planned? ;)

That's the reason for this previous thread ---->>> (see link) but also you could spend time doing your own repairs and / or ---  R&D in your Hanger (Han Solo working on his Millennium  Falcon - style) .... so that is why it is good to have 2+ ships.  Another reason to have more than one ship is to take off stock weapons and other upgrades and put them on the ship that you are going to be flying (if you want to leave another ship behind in your hanger).

As @Reavern has mentioned earlier, insurance for a number of ships adds up. I have a small fleet of ships which can take on several roles depending on squadron requirements. To have these options however, I would be paying through my teeth in insurance to keep them all available. Thus, LTI is valuable to me.

Furthermore, depending on how this game progresses (and I anticipate these LTI ships to have longevity in the game) LTI increases in value over time.

As @VoA mentioned in the previous post, the added benefit of having multiple ships is the lower downtime if you do get shot up and need replacement/repairs.
