  1. 1. Which division are you a part of?

Hello everybody!

You could call me the most indecisive person on Imperium. I've been a member of the org for 541 days and I had still not pledged my allegiance to a major division or squadron. Week in and week out I hear strong arguments from Trade & Industry guys, Exploration guys, and Combat Ops guys. Week in and week out I tell myself that I've decided and I'm gonna settle aaaand then comes that feeling of indecision, I start questioning myself, and I end up nowhere. That ends today.

The aim of this post is to have all the arguments for joining either profession at the same time, and on an open debate post. Hopefully that'll help me (and maybe others who are also undecided?) decide which division to join. So knock yourselves out and tell us why your division is the best :D

I was indecisive too at first, but then realized at the same time you can still do other activities within the game but the division is what you wish to focus on. For me it was a no brainer since I am amazing at combat aspects in almost any game I play from MOBA to FPS to MMO, I excel at combat and usually fall short on other lesser parts of the game things such as crafting.

However I still enjoy trying all aspects of any game, otherwise it would get boring if you just did the same task every day...So I will for sure try Star Citizens Crafting and gathering ect but on a much more smaller manageable scale.

Even though I'm T&I focus, I love that we can do any and everything.. :)  I fully intend to try my hand at all the T&I offshoots (refining/mining/trading/salvage etc) plus some exploring.. hell probably alot of exploring if I want to do some serious trading.  Mixed in to all those endeavors will be a healthy dash of combat  (thanks to npcs and pvp) plus any Imperium sanctioned defense events..

Ultimately don't think it will make a huge difference where you park.  We will mostly be grouping by who is online at the time rather than specific Imperium factions :)

There are some squadrons that will allow for all of the divisions in one. This is not pushing you in any direction...but one such example is Eclipse.

We are vanduul hunters which will require us to be out in the fringe and close to enemy zones...so we will be doing exploring in those areas.

We are planning to fight vanduul and we plan to be bounty hunters and there will be plenty of opposition in those types of areas so we will get our fill of combat.

Last but not least there will be plenty of booty that we will need to sell/trade or deliver back to Imperium so there will be opportunity for trade as well.

So this type of squadron could be what you are looking for so you can try it all.

Don't worry about your choice... you can change...

It's all speculation at this point - but I'd take a wild guess that my ideal balance personally will be about 50% combat focused and 50% trade/industry.

I agree with @Lover, it is total speculation to say what you will be doing in game at this point. I know I want to explore a lot but I'm sure I don't want to box myself into one "role", the game is going to be way too big and have way too much content to do that. Maybe in 5 years or so, maybe.

Don't look at divisions as to locking yourself into a single activity or out of all the others. I for one intend to do a little bit of everything, exploration, trade and a lot of combat and bounty hunting. So just ask yourself what is it that you intend to do the most and choose that division ;)

Well I wanna be rick as f*ck, so I might end up deciding to go into Trade & Industry. and if it's too boring then switch to Combat Ops or Exploration. Thanks for the great advice everybody :D

If i was you i'd utilize that frigate that you own and make some major $$$, which you will need to make profitable trades. Exploration is always on the agenda, you travel you explore but you will need $$$ to start with and combat ops will do that for you and you Sir have the ship for that.

You could do whatever you want really. Being in a division will not make you unable to do anything else.
You could join @Nevermore to form the base of the Capital Fleet as the Captain of your Frigate and assist any division you want to achieve a stronger offense and defensive force for Imperium. Work with various squadrons and divisions to build, maintain and defend Imperium's infrastructure will make you get your hands dirty with pretty much anything the game has to offer.
Using Combat Ops as your main Division would be logical in this case.

What what, now I am a little confused. I thought the Idris would work great either as a self-defended merchant also, not just as a forward military base. Or am I totally crazy?

It can be anything really. Besides, if you are in Combat Ops doesn't mean you can't trade. It is just a tag under your name, nothing more.

I've chosen Exploration because in the beginning of the PU it will be "THE" thing. Barely nothing will be explored yet and we'll have plenty of surprises !

After sometime I plan to move towards to Trade and Industry just to raise some money, be rich, and tell some great stories about those times to my b***** lol

@Terodius

It's probably best used (at least at the launch of the PU) as part of a large Combat Ops squadron, that way you can get it crewed by real players instead of NPCs and make a real difference in establishing Imperium's territories. A fair number of Combat Ops players only have the Aurora, such as myself, so will be looking to empower other larger ships until we can purchase fighters of our own.

Being a self-defended merchant will be quiet redundant since you're likely to either:

a) Operate in safe space where such artillery is pointless or

b ) Operating in low-sec space where the chances of you encountering a large party of smaller ships is very high, thereby destroying your ship and forcing you to miss out the first few months (citing Nubarus) of launch waiting for it to be replaced. You would be fine if you were trading as part of a larger force and had PC crewmembers, but no-one will want to sit on another person's ship whilst they make money if there's no guarantee of action, at least when everything is kicking off at the start  :)

Combat Ops will be entirely exploration and trade-based for the first week or so anyway as we establish an area of space to inhabit, like Settlers of Catan it'll all be about the initial land-grab

Months?? but I have LTI, won't I get an instant hull replacement? Am I missing something here?

Chris Roberts mentioned that ship replacements will depend on the ship. If the ship is pretty common and easy to replace, it will be replaced relatively quick. If a ship is rare or would take long to be built, it will take time to replace it. Just as in real life. If you crash your limitied edition ferrari, it will take longer to replace than a Honda or a BMW.

@Terodius

As Castor said, it'll also depend on how many times you've claimed recently. The delay is mainly to combat insurance fraud, where I could have my friends 'capture' my ships and I simply go back and get another on the insurance, thereby making duplicates.

Either way, it's best to run your bigger ships as part of a larger team, both to help them out and to make sure you can keep your ship intact. After all, it's in everyone's interests if your ship makes it out alive whilst we sacrifice some of our lives and our cheaper ships, because we can replace them within a few hours. And f you go at it alone, you won't dare risk the full potential of your vessel just because the downtime will mean you miss out on all the PU launch fun!

When @Nevermore brings his Frigate on a potential dangerous mission we will be flying escort and make sure he get's home in one piece. I will glady sacrifice my Hornet, Freelancer or even my Constellation to make this happen.

EDIT: Come to think of it, I will even sacrifice my character if needed and play with the next in line who inherits all my stuff.
