DASKOMMTDAWEG
Having played AC I have some burning questions tormenting my soul: Will my beautiful Tali-Missleboat everytime have to lock on a nimble fighter to shot ONE missle from its 30 ton Missle magazine? How could that work? That the lock on distance is app. 1400 metres doesnt make it any better if I think of the maneuvrability of a Tali(next to a Hornet). I really hope that there will be better firing solution systems because I see my battlestation at least 3 K behind the main battle line. And a multi person craft should have the opportunity to mark more than one target and release an hail of missles against it. And missles: I want more missles, better missles, dump-fire missles, magnetic missles, IR-seeking, Anti-Ship-Torpedoes.... I´m sorry. A little concerned. Carry on.. Retaliator is a "bomber" meant to take out large capital ships... so it should have a weakness vs nimble fighters (like all larger bombers do --- Gladiators will fair better vs fighters probably). The Constellation is a missile boat and will do better vs fighters than the Retaliator.... and remember the Retaliator will be a Civilian version of the Military ship (with less armaments - but more cargo). Silveryn
Keep in mind that improved computer and scanner packages will probably allow you to lock on from farther. I'm assuming the Retaliator will have one of these imrpved suites installed (or will be able to install them). Bambaataa

Drake123
If I wasn't planning on saturating myself in space combat, I would have kept my Connie. I'm in CombatOps, so as far as I'm concerned my "work" ships are my retaliator and Hornet. My "personal" ship will be a Freelancer for transporting personal equipment and generally doing missions when I'm not flying with Imperium. If I were to do merchant stuff, I would probably have a Connie, a Starfarer (both for work) and a Hornet or an Avenger or something for putzing around. Asking what the best ship is won't get you anywhere. You've gotta think from the bottom up. Ask yourself what your in-game goals are and then figure out which ship you want to use while reaching for them. Actually the retaliator has about as much if not more cargo space than the freelancer if you pull the missile magazine out and use that space for cargo. Drake123
Just checked. Retaliator can carry more than 3 times what the Freelancer can Freelancer - 168 cargo units Retaliator - (replaces missile ordinance) 720 cargo units
Nameless
Keep in mind that the Retaliator will have different missiles/torpedos. The AC ships currently have all the same missile type, Marksman I. So I wouldn't be too much fixated on that max 1500m lock on limit VoA
Drake123
"Zero" and "Coming soon" is a pretty important distinction. It seems like they haven't decided what the civilian loadout will be. Well I think the trick in designing it is in the concept. A bomber is a bomber whether its civilian or not. I think the military grade ship will have the same cargo space and differ by having better targeting system and military grade missiles.

I think the military grade ship will have the same cargo space and differ by having better targeting system and military grade missiles. According to the internal layout pics of the Tali, the ship doesn't have a dedicated cargo hold, which means that the only places to carry cargo are the bomb bays -- which need to be converted to cargo holds. Tali owners aren't going to be able to carry 720 freight units of cargo AND 12 bombs/torpedoes. Tali owners will have to choose what role they want to perform with their ship. It's all about balance. p... and Bambaataa

Right, you can go on a trade run or transport something somewhere or bomb the ever loving shit out of someone. does anyone know if a refit like this will be as easy as just changing it in the hangar? Keep in mind the Retaliator - as it will first sit in your hanger - will be a Civilian ship (like all other ships in SC - players are not allowed to use Military ships or Weapons - other than in S42 = when you are in the military). This means your Retaliator will be outfitted as a cargo ship (unless they come up with variant = but like I said you can't have the military variant). You will still have weapons on your Retaliator but they will be downgraded (Civilian weapons). The main military torpedo launcher and bomb bay will not be an option to outfit... however... it is said in the WIP that the civilian market has been adopting the bomb (cargo) bay to weapon use (but again - the UEE wont allow it to be equivalent to military grade). CR has explained that you might have to go to specific planets (and pay high price - since it is a specialized rare option) to find and install special upgrades (or overclocked weapons) --- (but again not equivalent to military weapons). This is exactly the way the hornet works right now. You can add cargo space for the f7c, or you can place a turret, stealth module, or sensor package there. It is drag and drop. Drake123
I'm sure there will be a functioning bomb bay because this ship would be pointless if it didn't. I'm sure it has a cargo bay where the bomb bay goes in the hull. My question is does anyone know how easy it is to go from one to the other? Is it something where you have to take it to "the space mechanic" to have outfitted or can you just change it in your hangar before launch? Edit ^thanks Scotterius
Danakar Endeel
I just hope it will still be able to mount a ton of missile launchers. Didn't the old specs list 12xClass 3 or something? Screw torpedoes, I want a Retaliator that can shoot missiles all day long like a Constellation on steroids!

Drake123
For someone late to the party, what is the big difference between the two? Constellation is smaller, a little faster, can carry medium amount of cargo and is well armed Retaliator is bigger, slower can carry twice as much cargo OR be a capital ship killer but not both at the same time. It's unclear if the missile launchers on the outside of it are still functional in "cargo ship configuration"
