So I have been thinking about  infomation gathering and covert intelligence.

Do we have any info about this in the game and if/how it will work?

Are you going to be able to listen in on coms or bug places and stuff like that.

But my biggest question is if/how it will work against other players.

Any iders?

Chris Roberts mentioned in the last '10 for the Chairman' video that they are currently working on in-game mechanics for intelligence and spying, such as hiding your true org.

This is really the first time I've heard him bring it up, so there isn't much known about it as far as I'm aware.

Yea I am tinking about signing up. But for me it really depends on how they implement intelligence and counter intelligence.

Like they talked about "hidden" orgs and stuff like that. How will it work to counter that from a game play stand point

Although I plan to be involved in Combat Ops...I also have an interest in Intelligence and Counter-Intelligence.

I suppose that is why I chose a Bounty Hunter squadron for Combat Ops...you have to use those types of skills to be successful at Bounty Hunting.

That whole category is of interest to me...and it should be a ton of fun.

I think it would be fun to have a double role as a trader/intelligence officer. I plan on trading in other factions territory, and it would be cool to also do a little recon while i'm trading. It doesn't seem as suspicious to me if a cargo ship is going by as a little ship sitting behind an asteroid

@Terodius I agree that the higher levels would be more exclusive. However, I just want to work as an Intel Gatherer. That's entry-level. I write reports and let my superiors know what I know/saw/heard etc. That is the level of involvement I want. And if the Intelligence Service wants to occasionally give me some trading intel I can use to make a better profit, everyone wins haha

I think, if they implement the mechanics right, it will be a blast to be a freelance intelligence officer. That outside guy you hire when you need to be able to disavow them if they are captured.

Like how CIA manages its operatives? or you mean more like a P.I. ?

Essentially. Like contracted field agents gathering HUMINT and MASINT for the NCS.

Discretion should be your goal if you want to join the IIS, not recognition.

Interestingly, most clandestine agents outrank their counterparts in non clandestine agencies, but some don't know what their rank was until retirement (obviously they are fringe cases, but in this case we will all want to be fringe cases).

Sorry if it came off in a way that sounded like I wanted to be a James Bond hero kind of guy. No, by me saying I would get some brass is my way of saying that I would put in the work, effort and time required to earn that brass.
