Clan/Fleet ship Tags?

Plain and simple. Perhaps if an official clan exceeds 75 members they will get a special, player designed tag that they can put on their ship.

Do we know anything yet about 'official' clans? I know there are a ton of factions set up already (you can see the lists here or on reddit), but those are certainly not official.

I've wondered about this myself: something like the Golden Ticket decal, except it's a blank decal that can display a customized clan/squadron logo. I'd be totally in favor of that, although I wonder how it would interact with Star Citizen's unique netcode. It may have already been suggested to RSI via one of the Reddit AmAs, email or some livestream chat box, not sure.

I know Chris realizes that there will be clans in the game, as evidenced by his description of the Bengal carrier as a "hangout for clans." I don't think we know to what extent they'll be supported, though. I'm guessing there will probably be some form of official mechanics allowing players to found clans in-game and invite members, and possibly there'll be text tags next to player ship names (when targeted, on the HUD, not just floating in space I hope) to identify which clan they belong to.

I for one seriously wish that they'll allow a certain amount of customisation to all player ships. Not just the ones in clans. Make some areas of all ships accept "logos" or simply player made textures, so that we can proudly fly our colours around space. Or just paint some cool pattern to glue on the ship. I completely agree. One of my favorite parts about a game like this is the customization options. It makes me feel like I am a unique player and not just some piece of hay in a hay stack like a lot of games. Also it's really fun!

And that's also really cool. I like the idea of a friend group. The big online corps can contract with small squads who specialize in something specific (attack/defense/escort...) I wonder if you'll be able to be a part of multple squadrons.

seeing as though multiple people will be able to have the same display name, I think this will be necessary, just to have a distiction between different players with the same name, I know what tag I'm gonna put on my ship (next to the imperium logo of course)

Well it'd still just be a penis on the side of the ship, not the whole ship looking like a penis. But yeah, I get ya, people are stupid and most of us are morons...

Hopefully there could be some kind of scanning of any textures or logos uploaded.

Or they will be generous enough to create a "logo painter" feature in the game, from which you can choose different patterns, styles, colors and so on. At least that would stop people from uploading straight-up porn as logos for their ships...

I guess if nothing else something like this could be available for purchase, like for instance you get to save a number of designs for a small sum of cash.

Considering that they would give final approval for any naming that happens, I'm guessing they're also aware of people who want porn on their ships. Plus to texture that much randomness would add a lot to game resources. You probably wont be able to just use any logo you want.

Maybe they can come out with a way for Customs skins to be generated and issued to clan members during group missions, for example in a big dogfight with multiple ships, all our members ships can be electro skinned to a standard Imperium colour scheme or cool design. Of course we wont want something in bright orange polka dot to make us that visible, (a disadvantage) just enough that we can cut down on friendly "fire" and pick out our adversaries faster. Anything and anyone not in "uniform" is automatically fair game.

Personally I would like to see tags and insignias for large clans both on ships and players maybe a color scheme for ships and players as well to increase the sense of unity and being part of something big. When a pirate sees a ship or personal around and thinks theres opportunity for plunder, they will think again when the see a insignia and color scheme of the Imperium Fleet. PLUS you could have sub insignias and sub color schemes for a clarification of what branch of a clan you specialize in (ie mining, bounty,military, exploration ect). Real militaries use this idea so clan should be able to aswell.

Would definitely like to see a similar system to Arma, where you link to your clan .xml in your profile and it is attached to any vehicle in which you are the driver. You can also do custom faces that way.

With as many players as there will be at any one time, it is probably quite a problem just keeping track of an individual and rendering whatever official skin he chose. If players were able to come up with their own skins it would be impossible. But I think if a few large responsible organizations went together to approach CIG with a method for making application for special skins or markings, they might go along. You know, don't just present them with another difficult request, include the solution as well. If this can be done it helps to promote the idea of an individual identifying themselves as belonging to a particular organization/squadron, which CR really wants to be strong in this game. They can't do it for a small number, but for 500 to 1000 it becomes more reasonable.

I'd love to see actual clan dog tags! or rings, just some small wearable that the clan has to design and then submit to the game, if it's approved all clan members get given them!
