Napoleon
I saw allot of discussion about ship rental. Some or excited about it,some hate the idea. What will be the easiest ship to rent in your opinion? My bet is on the Avenger, but really full equip, since she seem to be the most bounty hunting oriented ship.I'm pretty sure there will be zillions of wanna be Bobba Fett who wont have any money to equip a serious ship for serious pirates. They all ganna want to go fishing sharks with sardines poles. From there the maths look simple:all they have to do is capture someone with a bounty higher than the rental fee.... 99% will of course get there a$$ kicked,so you better have a insurance. But maaan i smell a monster market there. You can bet on the fact that i will have a fleet of bounty hunting well tuned ship ready for those customers! Zion Orion
Zion Orion
My plan is to have a few basic models available, with my target audience being those whom have lost their own ship due to insurance lapse and who would be in need of temporary transportation until they are able to purchase a new ship. Possibly I will have a cargo transport or two available for those who are trading their way up into their own vessel. All of this hinges of course on how the game rolls out, how insurance works, etc.
Chimaera
I have a mini-wing inside my hangar. I expect the ship I would probably end up renting out the most (and be most comfortable renting out) would be my 325A or Avenger. Depending on the situation I may even be willing to rent out my Freelancer, but certain other ships I will be keeping close to home.
Xyster187
I will not mind renting a ship out, but it will be bare bones. Upgrades are not covered by the basic insurance to the best of my knowledge.
Tom Villder
I'd lend a few auroras that I'll get in-game, but I wonder, what will stop a customer with malicious intent to rent out the ship, go to pirate space and change the ownership ID and then trade it with an alt? I hope renting mechanics are nailed down to prevent trading of rented ships or for the lender to impose restrictions on where to fly. RedactedWarrior
I think being able to "rent" a ship is a great idea. as the game progresses past inital release and new ships come out, you can rent a ship your interested in purchasing and see how it handles. but now that i'm thinking about it, arena commander will likely negate this... you could simply go into the "game" arena commander and play test the ships your looking at purchasing. segevbr
In my opinion, the idea of renting a ship is nice but they will need to balance it so that most of the people would have thier own ship and a rentel ship and they will need to make that if you rent your own ship to another person they would have boundaries for highest price and the lower price. Another thing that it could be good is that you would have to be in certain club to rent more higher level ships like the Constellation the Hornet etc.
Silver Fox
Does ship insurance cover all people driving the ship? For example irl my car is insured to me, so if someone else crashes it insurance won't pay. Fjnfnffnfn8485858
swiftwilly
Whats some details about this renting thing, I might be interested. Is there a market price or you set it, is there an rental house where you post the ship? does insurance cover it? What if they don't return it? I think Org 2.0 (maybe later in Org3.0) will cover renting / borrowing of ships as it relates to Organizations. Later in the PU development they will probably cover it with a Rent / Loan / Lease / Borrow agreement "Contract" (probably with an automatic Bounty placed on your head if you don't return the ship). The Contracts will probably cover damage / insurance costs (not sure if they'll have that for Orgs yet - since it starts getting complicated then). VoA
I went through some forum posts there doesn't appear to be anything official If anything I read CR is against passive income in the game? CR did mention ship rentals in an old 10FTCH as did Rob on a WMH (but both said that CIG hasn't worked out the details). There will be many forms of "Passive Income" in the game including Rentals, Tarrifs, Taxes, Factories, Space Station retail space, etc...... What CIG is against is NPCs producing income for you passively (or running missions without the Player Character).
Triggerman
well, how i see that the rental will have the same occurrence as the ship you will be driving. say that you have a insurance for a set of ships (level 3 insurance) and you want to make some money, so you find some capable pilots from the guild to take care of the ships some pilots come saying that they want to rent the ships, in order for them to do that they should have a profile of them (this allows for fraud to happen if not careful so this encourages for people to trust the people, the fraud also makes a downside for the renter since the profile can be a lie saying that the person is very trustful but it turns out to be a prick that likes to cause mayhem to the ships) and the renter will have a contract which if made badly, can put the renter at a bad position or the other side around or if written correctly, can put the both at a equal. there can also be fraud the renter can do, say the renter gets a few of his friends to attack the renting pilot knowing that the insurance is only for a level 2 but the renting pilot is in a level 3 zone, if the contract says that the person must pay (with interest) incase of insurance not covering the ship, the renter can make the fraud on a innocent player which is making the part of renting and such as dangerous as the real world if you don't do it correctly. Plus when this thing go wrong, a renter can't just force a player to pay a fine unless the law comes in or a renting pilot can not just cause trouble fraud without the law coming in. this gives more reason for the police and judge system. (this also makes it difficult in a lawless area, were the law does not exist so it will be more of a trust in player rent when that happens, you know, give the keys to the player and hope they are trustful or if the person is a ally you can trust) you want have a good side to renting and a bad side to renter while also giving business to others as wellA little paragraphing done by Dan so it was easier to read. The first sentence was about 200 words lol
danredda
*snip* The problem with this is it adds a lot of complexity. The easiest way would be to have the rental system tied to your Central Core bank account, and if someone tries to dodge rental fees, it cannot happen. And a bank would love to put out a decent bounty I'd imagine. I'm sure fraud when it comes to rental will be very easy to detect for the GMs.
Tranic
I heard a story about ppl back in the 60's would go rent a muscle car from hertz over a weekend. They would then proceed to remove the engine, replace it with something cheap and return it on Monday. What's to stop ppl from doing the same? Cyril
@Tranic An itemized list of equipment and if that is changed that would be a contract violation and a rep hit. If there is a mechanism for renting ships, I'm sure it will ensure you get the same fitting back.
Fjnfnffnfn8485858
I'm wondering whats going to happen when someone legs it with a rental ship, will the owner put a bounty on the ship? It's really going to add a whole new piece of gameplay!
