Destroyer, Javelin-class

Recommended Posts

"David has been working hard to create not just a cool exterior, but also an interior that evokes the crowded corridors of a real world destroyer. The plan is for it to be modular, with parts we can swap out for different roles (assault destroyer, LRR destroyer and so on!) The Javelin is still in the conceptual stages… but I think it’s cool enough to share with the community!"

Feast your eyes on these beauties!

I'm curious as to it's size in relation to the Idris, what sort of modules it can have and as to how powerful that big turret on the top is. Reminds me of the cormorant destroyer from EVE. Also, in one of the images it says 'hangar doors' and they are flush with the deck. In the other ones it looks more like a single-ship landing pad. One last observation, the last image seems to have two 'prongs' on the side whilst the others have three. Curious.

Wonderin if that fighter landing on destroyers landing pad is just random ship . Resembles hornet a little, but I don't think it is one.

its a Gladiator bomber which is smaller than the hornet so if its a bay then there isnt much that will fit in there besides the gladiator and Aurora maybe the avenger

It says hangar bay door on the sketch, but in other shots it's clearly just a helipad, not a door. Look at the shadow beneath in the colored shots.

Anyone with vault access that can see any other pics that may give clarity?

I volunteer to man one of the gun turrets if someone buys this for the Imperium fleet!  As I said in another post, it would be nice to have people join my Tali gun crew when we have ops that require the attention of the Imperium Tali squadron.

(Side note:  Do we have a name for the Tali squadron yet?  I realize I'm getting ahead of myself, but that's just the kind of guy I am!)

Yes, but there aren't any destroyer pictures in there.

Those pictures simply do not match. There is this one picture with landing pad, then there are pics without pad and door. There are also several pictures of different models of this ship so it's no way near finished yet so no idea if there will be doors or pads.

Hmm? Try again. In my vault there is "JAVELIN DESTROYER WIP" 25 pictures.

 Awesome! I hadn't checked in a few hours; I assumed If we hadn't already seen some stuff that it wouldn't be forthcoming! Thanks!

The Javelin Destroyer looks spectacular! :)

It's great to finally see another UEE cap ship -- there's a big gap between the Idris and Bengal Carrier, and the Javelin is starting to fill it in.

I can't explain why, but what I love most about the design of the Javelin are its engines. There's something about that quad engine configuration, similar to the Constellation, that I marvel at.

What really interests me in the Javelin is it's armaments. I presume it's well armed, but other than the two large turrets on the top and bottom, I don't see any heavy weapons, like a spinal rail gun or torpedo launchers, which I'd expect for a destroyer. And with the name Javelin, I'd expect it to be fully loaded with missiles and torpedoes.

I can't wait until CIG releases the specs for the Javelin Destroyer, and hopefully more pics, with labels, that identify the weapons and important features of this incredible new warship.

It looks like the doors are opening, look a the middle.

I don't know what you are referring to?

If you look at this picture it is clearly just a landing pad, with nothing underneath.

Also, some of the leaked picks showing the internal layout has no internal room where a hangar could be. It's all taken up by crew quarters and hallways. Nor does there seem to be any dedicated cargo hold apart from the weapons stations.

Of course the leaked pics could be of earlier iterations, but I'm leaning towards the Destroyer being a dedicated combat ship meant for fleet operations. Not a jack of all trades ship that can go solo like the Idris. IRL destroyers are escorts for carriers, so it makes sense from a balancing perspective to give destroyers a bunch of guns but no real hangar.

Presumably next we'll see the escort carrier going the other way, with all hangar and not much weapons. Giving them natural roles as each others compliment.

Has anyone yet posted a size calculation proofed by images? Based on for example on the length of the Gladiator.

Problem is that the Idris got bigger and has thrown other things out of whack. This is the most up to date one I could find.

If the Idris is 240m then they've changed it's proportions. Because by those measurements the bridge would have a roof 10m tall. So the latest images we have of it would be outdated.

Also this puts gives us a giant gap in the 100-200 size range that needs to be filled with something.

@CyberianK

I haven't seen any detailed ship scale calculations or estimates yet, but I've done an eyeball guestimate of ~375 metres.

The Gladiator is 18.6 metres long. I presume that the Javelin's landing pad is large enough to land a 22.5 metre long F7A Military Hornet, which means it should be at least 25 metres in diametre. The Destroyer appears to be approx. 15 landing pads in length. 15 x 25 is 375, hence 375 metres.

That's not nearly as large as the Vanduul "Hunter" Destroyer, which is 475 metres, according to the Vanduul Ship Size Chart. Perhaps the differing size of their Destroyers is part of the reason why the UEE Navy has repeatedly failed to displace the Vanduul from their foothold in the Tiber system. :P

I want to sell a RSI Polaris Corvette with LTI
      edit: not longer available

After this last week and the sale of the Polaris that I had to pick up I thoroughly studied the manual with the drawings and started wondering about use of escape pods, and that ultimately led me to a much more important aspect of how would everyone get to escape pods. I wanted to see what, if anything, others have heard about how damage and destruction on the capitals will work. Will one of the manned stations be able to see damage reports around the ship? Since the size of these ships makes the damage system extremely complex I can see this being both a good thing to delve into. For instance a direct torpedo hit to the Polaris on one of the side turrets could very well take out a whole chunk of the ship. But other than depressurizing the corridor and removing the weapon emplacement... maybe a little structural weakening... it effectively would have no real damage done. However, if fire is concentrated on lets say... the torpedo storage bay, or the reactors location if known and they are damaged/destroyed clearly that would have an entirely different reaction. And even this could be mitigated with proper safety systems that I think would be in place in the real world like the ability to jettison a damaged power core before it would blow up the ship, etc. There is so much I would like to know and get into on this subject, along with more than a few torpedo tactics but that's for another thread. Any knowledge on this given out by the dev's? If not some theory crafting is always good in my opinion.

Recently, I viewed the video below discussing Capital Ship cost structures. After viewing it.. I had several take aways.
The main feeling I had is that with the size and resources required to run Capital Ships it makes sense to me that everyone on board and the vertically integrated resource channels should be militarized primarily to save cost.
In real life this is no more evident than PMC vs Traditional Army.
Here is a article to illustrate the point: http://work.chron.com/private-military-company-pay-vs-army-pay-24574.html

These are just my thoughts. Let me know what you think.

Wonder if we'll see any other capitals from the Banu or Xi'an for pledge...I would be pretty damn tempted to swap my Javelin for a Xi'an destroyer or the Banu equivalent (they don't have a proper navy as such).
Ben seems to think the answer isn't a total no apparently.  Doesn't mean yes, but surprises are good.

The interior design of a vertical ship on that scale really interests me, opposed to what we're used to.  The feel I'm aiming for atm with my larger ships lends itself more towards alien design as well so one of those would be much appreciated.. ;p
