PaulC2K
The initial description said the Starfarer would be capable to collect space born fuel from gas giants. Though I have no idea where this hallway could be. There hasn't been an update on the Starfarer in a while and it has undergone some changes. The concepts we've seen so far are no longer valid. It may look (very) similar but they've made new concepts for the starfarer. Also I can't tell if the size is correct or if it changed dramatically. Most images (and the stats, too) show 90m length, but the latest update says the Starfarer has tripled in size. But it's good to see that most ships have progressed. Hopefully we can see them in our hangars soon Are we really sure that the statement of it tripling is based on our most recent information, and not based on old early concept intentions? From the vault gallery images, there were a load which were pretty small ships, they were early concept ideas, so its reasonable to think its tripled compared to those, if they were to a preconceived idea of how big it would be. On top of that, is this image of a 57m Starfarer: I can imagine the volume being 3x bigger at 90m. Surely, unless they were talking about the small sketches before a final concept idea was chosen, the term 'tripled' must mean by volume, and not 270m long etc. It'd put it at maybe 110-120m long maybe? It'd be cool, bigger and more stuff going on internally is brilliant, but 270m would be bonkers, right? It'd be the same size as the Javelin, ya know, till that became as big as the Bengal etc
Nameless
Well the comm-link was posted on September 12th. Saying "The Starfarer tripled just because the concept art looked so cool at that larger size!" Sometimes others mention a size of 140m or something similar to the old Idris size. So the timeline is as follows: -First concepts were shown on June 29th, 2013 but the length was unknown -First size comparisons, guesstimated the Starfarer to be close to 90m -A question about the Starfarer's size was answered on March 27, 2014 -The concepts showing the 57m version were published in September for subscribers only. They were never seen before, so the size was and still has been 90m -Latest comment is the one at the top, stating it has tripled in size. This could be wrong after all and the size is ~140m after all, but this is all info I could find. So unless someone doesn't ask (again) we may also believe the Starfarer is 270m long Edit: Another guess: the tripled in size refers to the overall volume of the ship and not only the length

So unless someone doesn't ask (again) we may also believe the Starfarer is 270m long Edit: Another guess: the tripled in size refers to the overall volume of the ship and not only the length The bit im unsure about is the recent quote, it doesnt specify when this decision was made, only that they liked the larger concept art. This doesnt change the fact that their plans before June 2013 could have had the ship length (and other relative dimensions) based on a ship 57m long. That could have been the guideline specs for the ship, and then they realised it looks cool 3x bigger (vol). Just because this news comes over a year after finding out the ship is 90m, doesnt confirm or deny that they've already tripled it and arrived at the 90m length ship, and this hasnt changed sine then. All we know is they liked the larger concept art, that could well be the concept art we've seen all along. Im finding this to be more plausible, simply because they refer to concept art, not a model they tried to fill and realised it needed to be bigger to fit it all in, like the Idris. Surely the concept art phase was done back in 2013, before spending a year telling us its 90m long? I hope its bigger, 140m ideally, cos 270m just seems huge (Reclaimer is 158m). If its either, but especially 270m, it'll easily be the best $175 ship going who knows what it'll be sold for when its hangar ready, $250 doesnt seem too unlikely if the new spec far exceeds the old one the concept price was based upon. At the very least, its gained 2 rear underbelly turrets IIRC. edit: highlighted a bit of clarification ive added

PaulC2K
So, what happened to seeing the Starfarer today? I cant imagine it was in any of the sections where the stream was down, and it seemed like James was saying we'd get to see it tomorrow, but maybe he wasnt talking about that after all? Nameless
Did they say so during AtV? Must have missed this. Anyway if they said so, it's best to post it on RSI and poke Ben.
VoA
James let it slip in ATV .... that we might see something on the Starfarer... (and Ben on the Retaliator as well)..... including mentioning a 90 min presentation. (just new info - not necessarily hangar ready).... Think CR was not satisfied yet for what they wanted to present because the presentation only last 53min..... but let's be hopeful we'll see something soon. PaulC2K
I mentioned on another forum just after, i had a gut feeling they were going to show something of SQ42 there, the way the Starfarers role in SQ42 was recently mentioned, and seeing it at this event. Then Erin being there, its a long trip from Texas & Cali, but they're expected to be there. Its a much further trip here in Manchester, he's just done CitCon, so he's shown his face etc. Then it ends at 50min... i think it was similar to CitCons landing sequence, a lot of work thrown together and hours beforehand it just wasnt ready to show. I guessed we'd see the exact PU showing we saw at CitCon a week before it happened, only i guessed a hornet. Free space, landing request, auto pilot, walking around ArcCorp. It was a punt, based on bits they'd mentioned and a leap at that being the next hurdle to overcome. I got the same feeling leading up to today, and there was a feeling of something being missing, maybe not 40min worth, but im sure something was dropped. Maybe someone at PAX AUS may hear something mentioned from CIG staff there? VoA
VoA
New Dev post JCrewe CIGJCrewe Posted: 5:39AM Posted: 5:39AM Hi all, I'm John and I started here in Foundry 42 a few months ago as Senior Technical Designer, my responsibilities at the moment include a lot of ship design and setup. My first week on the job was helping set up the M50 and I'm currently fiddling around with the Gladius which hopefully a few of you now have in your Hangars! As far as I'm aware nothing has changed with the scale of the Starfarer, recently we've just been refining the interior to make better use of the space however externally nothing has changed. Starfarer Update: it is still around 90m long but better interiors JCrewe CIG JCrewe Posted: 4:51AM Posted: 4:51AM It's still around the 90m mark, as for the Cutlass I can't share any specifics as to what is being done or not done at this time

PaulC2K
Confirmed on AtV that the Starfarer is used in the intro for SQ42. Ive been telling anyone who'll listen since just before PAX, they have/had every intention of showing us something from Sq42, and it seems like it probably was the Intro, which explains why James said we'd see the starfarer during the event, and why we didnt. That object in the Gladius video isnt the Starfarer, it has similarities but the angle would either show the 'turtlehead' or less of the side profile, and that video you see no head and all side-profile. PaulC2K
Hmm, never for a moment thought it was the Starfarer tbh. I guess it could be though. 5 seats inside the cockpit area was one that really threw me. Its a 2 action seat ship, and i couldnt think of a F42 ship which it might be. The above head height panels look the same as the corridor panels, and the cockpit is kinda the right size. 5 seats seems wasteful for an industrial ship IMO. Its about function & pricing, and excess seats seem... excessive. Seems i missed Ben saying we'd see more at the end of the show.

Well, they did mention they were going to add additional firepower in the form of 2 belly turrets and there was the comment from one of the devs stating that you could still have basic functionality with just 2 people, but more would definitely help. So unfortunately it seems we can say goodbye to the 'Mom & Pop' 2-crew mobile gas station and get shoehorned into yet another 5 man multicrew ship. VoA
CIG Ben Lesnickwcloaf Posted: 4:04PM Posted: 4:04PM Good question! The Starfarer was designed to be operated by two crew (a pilot and a gunner) but will have seat actions for up to seven if you wish to use them (a pilot, co-pilot, captain, engineer and three gunners.) Chareon
Fill it up with fuel and ram it into the enemy bengal. Yeah, we haven't heard how exactly different fuel types like dry/wet will work however, so it may be possible to load other cargo ships up with more fuel than the starfarer can hold making the larger ships like the MM just flat better.
