So exploration won the vote apparently:

  • Anvil Carrack – The Anvil Carrack has been the vanguard of every UEE exploration effort in recent years. Featuring reinforced fuel tanks for long-duration flight, a highly advanced jump drive array and a dedicated computer core room that allows it to put the maximum processing power into jump charting operations. Originally a military exclusive, the Carrack is now available for civilian use as a pathfinder spacecraft. Features on-board accommodations to allow for truly self-sufficient flight, including crew medical and repair facilities, and a mapping-oriented sensor suite capable of always charting a route home!

This sounds like a pretty sweet ship, It's about time we had a dedicated ship for such a popular profession, instead of just a variant or two.

I will certainly looking to acquire one of these for myself and the fleet.  :D

The Med Bay gives me tingly feelings.  It is interesting to get glimpses of all these unknown mechanics, like jump plotting, via these utility ships.

I really hope smuggling gets chosen!

Can anyone tell me the vote distribution this round?  I don't want to waste my vote, but I can't decide.

@Exitre Right now it's basically between smuggling and info runner.

Info runner is 27%, smulgging is 26%

The next closest is cargo hauling at 20%, followed by bounty hunting and then piracy.

Thanks.  I suppose I'll throw in for Smuggling, even though I'd prefer a BH ship next.  I definitely don't want another racer, which is what I assume an Info Runner would be.

Yeah, I went for smuggling too this time around. I'm not to bothered about any of the others, although a long-range dedicated bounty hunter ship would be nice. Info runner seems like it could be done by an M50, so I don't really see why it's so popular. Maybe they mean a stealth info runner or something?

Perhaps... a spy ship could be cool -- like a U-2 for space.  I guess in the end, no one loses with new ship reveals, these were probably already on the drawing board, anyway!

The only problem with 'dedicated' ships is that if people notice them moving through certain areas of space they can determine what your up to. A bunch of Drake Cutlass's could be a pirate roaming gang or could be salvagers headed to the scene of a fight.

I'm not exactly enthused about all the explorers stacking the vote for their ships, but the Anvil Carrack definitely seems worth buying -- assuming we hit the $33 million stretch goal tomorrow and CIG makes this ship available. If the Carrack is unlocked, I'll seriously consider reclaiming my Digital Freelancer package for it, because it sounds like a more robust and specialized exploration ship.

I was holding off getting a Freelancer or Cutlass for exploration/pathfinder. Now this sounds sweet.

What pops in my head is the Carrack from Civilization series that was the 1st ocean going sea unit you can make.

I was really happy about it, because it seems explorers have been kinda left with out a really cool ship of our own.

What I take from this Carrack info release is.

" Features on-board accommodations to allow for truly self-sufficient flight, including crew medical and repair facilities, and a mapping-oriented sensor suite capable of always charting a route home!"

Self-sufficient flight? Yes please, I need that in my Freelancer. the Carrack probably won't hold as much cargo or be as modular. can't wait to see what it looks like though. Gotta have plenty of guns to be a self-sufficent explorer though.

talking about melting something for the Carrack ... do you think these new ships will be pledgeable?

I would prefer not to ... I would like to have some sweet goals to go for, using my freelancer to try out some smuggling, mining or exploring then for making money to buy the specialised ship for my favorite task.

Well, we're coming at this from two different perspectives, because I'm Combat Ops and you're Exploration. I know that there's no shortage of combat ships in SC, but there are also plenty of exploration ships too. Of the 7 new ships revealed recently, 3 of them are exploration ships (Xi'an Scout, Aegis Surveyor, and Anvil Carrick), 2 have been trade ships (Banu Merchantman, RSI Orion), and then there's a starter ship and a super-yacht. No real combat ships -- although admittedly the Xi'an Scout might have decent combat abilities.

As much as I'm interested in the Anvil Carrack, and would consider reclaiming my Freelancer for it, I would've preferred if CIG had set aside the vote in the interest of fairness and balance, and offered a combat, smuggler, or bounty hunter ship instead.

The funding will smash the $32 mill mark in an hour or two, and I definitely think it'll exceed $33 mill before the end of the day. I just hope that if the Carrack is unlocked today, that CIG will make it available to buy today. :)

@Reavern I suppose that's somewhat true, I was just looking at it from all the ships not just the new ones, I mean Of all the ships released or talked about until recently was, the Connie, retailiator, gladiator, hornet (variants), Aurora, and even out of the 300 series the 315p got little love. We hadn't had real dedicated explorer except the Freelancer that seemed to be shaping up into more of a trade vessel than exploration. I think people who we're really looking forward to exploration really was hungry for a straight up non variant bamf exploration vessel.

I believe that the vote just followed the trend from previous research: Star Citizen players prefer Trade and Exploration.

Nothing against Combat but RSI is making the game that players want, so why go against their will?

I don't believe that the choices made will unbalance the game, on the contrary (correct expression ?), if you analyze well the ships that had more variants options were those that can engage in Combat (Origin 300, Aurora, Hornet, Avenger, etc) in addition to military ships that were on sale for a limited time.

I'm super excited for this ship.  Not only does it come from my favorite ship maker, but the description makes it sound kind of like the USS Enterprise or even the SSV Normandy from Mass Effect.  Would melt my Connie instantly for this ship.

A dedicated exploration ship is definitely what I'd want if I was to try my hand at exploration. I don't want to mess around with a 315p or Freelancer, or even a Constellation, if there's a purpose-built exploration ship like the Carrack. This makes me wish CIG adopted this design philosophy for all the ships, instead of only the new batch of stretch goal ships. How many discussions and arguments have there been about what is the best ship for exploration, or mining, or salvaging? These new ships definitively resolve those questions because they're built for a explicitly-stated role, and will apparently come equipped with features and upgrades for that role. I realize that the fancy sensor and nav computer that the Carrack has can probably been bought and installed in a Freelancer or Constellation, but it's so much easier to simply buy the Carrack instead and know what you're getting. :) (Sorta, we still don't have any specs or pics yet, but knowing the unique selling features of the Carrack is better than what we got with the pledge ships ;) ) I predict that the Carrack will be the one definite-buy now that LTI is gone. The other ships, like the Surveyor and Herald, are interesting, but I can wait and acquire them in-game. The Carrack sounds far superior to the Freelancer, and when I go out exploring, I want to do it right! :D
