if, like eve and x3, there is a stock market, all members should be ready to buy/sell in case we need to move the market in some direction for our benefit. this linked with well-placed information could net the fleet some substantial capital, prevent a war, or cause one if we need it

It's amazing that we'd be able to fully (potentially) actually control, or at least influence, the market. That could be really powerful.

I hope Star Citizen is as far removed from EVE as possible. While I am happily involved in a corporation, (the aforementioned Blue Horizon,) I want to be a fighter escort, a crew member, an explorer and a trader flying around space, adventuring, discovering worlds and opportunities. I do not want to sit in a replica stock market crunching numbers and determining market risk factors in order to gain fictional currency. I have a job that I work 40 hours a week, I don't need a second unpaid one where I don't even get to blow anything up.

"Wouldn't it be great if we could trade shares--" No. No it would not be great. Stop saying that! It would be great if we could fly fucking spaceships around and explode planets. It would be great to tear holes in the fabric of space and time and travel to far off worlds. It would be great to discover and meet with unknown alien civilisations - and blow them the fuck up. Sitting in a room calculating stocks and investments? I don't need a fictional word to do that. I can do that right now. I choose not to. Because it is fucking tedious.

Yes I am saying that your subjective opinion on what is entertaining is wrong.

Phew. Where did that come from?

As someone who's never played Eve I don't have the built up rage about spreadsheets. But I am with you in that I don't want that to be my game. I'll be out exploring and spying on people. And being able to actually control the stock market seems a bit too powerful. That said, if someone in my guild wants to do the math and just tell everyone 'buy this now' I'll be willing to go with them.

Fair enough, my only concern would be resources to make a more awesome universe being redirected to create a more contrived stock market. Never really played EVE either but got sick of many people saying "Oh you'd enjoy this" when all I saw was a glorified accounting simulator.

The first month, EVE will blow your mind with all the information it throws at you ;)

F&$k eve....too much stuff, I just want to fly and blow shet up and meet people, and steal their goods. Maybe even explore a little and keep the info to myself for a short time....hide shet within my special system. Stuff like Tyzon said in his rant post. Why spend that much time managing Economics and Corporations if you can't fly in your cozy ship, blowing everything you see to pieces?

I read that they are designing the game so that NPCs participate in the market heavily as well as players. Where players are not filling a role, NPCs will be there so that there are always a large and consistent number of "people" participating in the market. As stated by Roberts, it is done that way to provide an active vibrant market at all times, and also to limit the impact that a group of players can have on pricing of items. Yes, a large group can move the market a bit, but it will be muted by this mechanic.

There is a need for this game to distinguish its economy from EVE's I think.  I don't think that will be entirely possible since they are going for a more player-driven system, with a sprinkle of NPC activity.  I think the latter part will be good actually.  It does need to not be like a giant spreadsheet, but there is no doubt that there will be people wanting it like that and treating it like that.

And I am against stocks and other things like that entirely.  I think it's fun to earn boatloads of fake money trading in dangerous places, so as long as there is plenty of opportunity in that, I will be happy.

A Healthy balance needs to be found. I don't think Chris Roberts envision of Star Citizen is a glorified market simulator. His games revolve around immersion and believably of a completely new world. With immersion and believably you need to have action, adventure, story line, characters, and yes... a market.

In any game like this (a sandbox) you need to have restraints so players don't turn this into a shitty PVP world.

Imagine if you could survive by just killing other players and looting equipment..

The game would have no meaning, no immersion.. No believably.

having a market, a trading system and alongside that corporations gives players the ability to live another life.

The ability to have a goal other then killing the person in that fighter. A common goal that people can work towards. My envision; life.

I want to see Imperium control a section of space through a thriving combat operations section. allowing the trade and mining section to create a thriving economy to support other players. And yes, bigger guns come from money.. Money is created mainly from mining and trade. and the exploration section creates new opportunities for this section. Either way... even if this doesn't come true and it turns into a market simulator or a PVP shitfest. At least it will be a stunning simulator or PVP shitfest. I'm all about the shinny.

Got a great laugh out of this post and showed it to my wife who also thought it was hilarious. Well done.

I think the market and it's shifting will be based more upon the total changes in supply made in a system by the players/NPC's. So imagine if you check a market board and it says Titanium is going for 3000 credits a ton and you make a huge run with 20 tons of titanium in your nifty little freelancer and make a tidy profit off of it. Now that you've injected a large amount of titanium into the systems market I bet the price will shift for anyone else bringing it in. Now I'm willing to bet planets will have different rates of consumption for different products and this will mean they are relatively safe bets for running specific cargo to, but if it gets inundated with the high value product I bet the price will drop for an amount of time equal to the time it takes the planets consumption rate to push the price back up. I think this would be great because it WOULD allow us to manipulate it to some degree, but it wouldn't allow us to totally shift the market in an EVE style shitstorm.

Of course this is just what I like and think would be complex, without giving us all carpal tunnel from editing our spreadsheets.

I think EvE is fun, but I think that this game is going to be an improved version of the game. I totally understand what everyone is talking about when they mention some of the...less exciting aspects of EvE. Noone can deny that it is a corner-stone of the genre though. The way I am looking at this game is that the developers are removing some of the bad, keeping and improving the good, and adding a bunch of new features. That is why I am so excited for this game.
