I picked up a Starfarer last week from the reddit trades, kinda dived in without doing sufficient research and realising that theres still probably a strong probability of these returning to sale again, most likely when the basic model is as ready, and i'd only caught part of a squable about whether RSI said it was limited and no more, or limited time but not definitive like the Idris. I'd got as far as people saying it was limited - end of, and not caught the rest where people pointed out the Idris & Scythe were never to be sold again. Oh well, im still happy with the purchase.

So i have a question, the Starfarer landed with the ship and LTI. I've seen quite a few unfinished ships being sold just the ship & LTI, so does this mean theres a strong chance it'll also come with all the other minor goodies that current ships have? UEC Credits, 'Game Package' or miniature model?

Theres no mention of the hanger, which makes some sense seeing as its bigger than all the released model ships. Is it likely to just get a Deluxe/Business hanger which has been enlarged to hold it, cos theres only been talk of 4 hangers (Discount, Business, Deluxe & Asteroid) or is it possible more will come?

I also guess there hasnt been any suggestion of when the model will be available? Seems like theres quite a few still waiting.

@PaulC2K The Starfarer probably won't ever be sold with a game package -- unless you buy the $15,000 Completionist package.

In addition to the original 5 ships with game packages, CIG has created a couple more game packages for ships (the Cutlass and Avenger), and there's currently a push for a Mustang starter package; but I doubt that every ship will get a game package. That's probably for the best, because certain ships aren't intended to be used from the start, and the Starfarer is one of them. A heavy mercantile ship is probably challenging to fly, expensive to refuel, and a big, fat, easy target for Pirates. It would be smarter to start with a lighter mercantile ship, like the Freelancer, learn to fly and fight in a ship that size, bank some credits, and then move up to the Starfarer.

I see that you already have an Aurora and Starfarer. I presume the Aurora is your game package. You could probably learn and earn what you need in an Aurora, and then go for the Starfarer, but it'll be a big step up and I predict the transition will be challenging.

@Reavern It was mainly because it'd allow me to swap the Aurora for a Hornet or 300 series type single ship purchase, if the Starfarer was a package. I got the Aurora package as it was the 2nd cheapest alpha/beta included purchase, and mainly with a view to not flying but crewing clanmates ships. Only 12 days ago i had no intention of playing SC, but i was fascinated by the scope and attention to details. Now i've picked up a Starfarer and want a HOTAS & Rift, and i've never bothered with flight sims before SC, its just never appealed to me till it sank in how grand this game should become.

I think i'll swap the Aurora for the Mustang though, but probably wait till the DFM and hopefully try both in that, before making a decision.

I got the Starfarer because we have a Constellation, Freelancer, Cutlass and a few escort type ships between the 5 of us, and the Starfarer felt like it'd add a different style of play, we cant possibly fly with all the ships we have (as will be the case for most people) but it adds options to what we do. Fuel runs might make more money but be a bit dull, so it could fund doing fun stuff that doesnt pay as kindly. Mix it up a little.

The most boring ship of all?Yet i very might end up with 50 of those .So expensive for a boring ship, the return on your money must be awesome. If SC is anything like the real world, the ppl who control the fuel control the world.I want a fleet of thoses in the air day and night.

Anyone planning to get it as well?

It is probably the most popular ship in Star Citizen at the moment just due to it's assumed potential amount of currency earning yield. I am expecting it to be heavily dependent on escorts though to survive.

When will it be available?

Ether in one of the mystery sales (if they list it) that may or may not happen in the future probable closer to PU for this one, or once PU is out and you can get it in game :/

That's the general assumption about the Starfarer.

However, if too many players try to get rich quick by "mining" hydrogen from gas giants for fuel, then SC's supply-vs-demand economy system will drop the profit margin to nothing and it's POSSIBLE that tanker jockeys will find themselves earning less for 75 tons of fuel than an Aurora pilot earns for 5 tons of miscellaneous cargo. Even if players upgrade to the bulk cargo conversion variant of the Starfarer to carry regular cargo, the owners might not be able to afford to fill the Starfarer with cargo. That depends on how hauling and trading is handled. Whether players are contracted to transport goods but they don't own the cargo, so they don't have to pay for the cargo and only receive payment for hauling it. Or if players have to buy the cargo and insure it, transport it, and then when they sell it they take all the profits. It's likely that SC will have both: the former will probably involve game-generated missions for players to accept, and will be ideal for players just starting out or low on funds; and the latter will be player defined, based on their knowledge of what resources or trade goods a particular planet needs and where to find those items.

And as others have mentioned, the Starfarer will probably be a sitting duck for Pirates and therefore it will need escort fighters for protection, and paying them will cut into the Starfarer owner's profits.

The point is that there's no guarantee that the Starfarer is the golden ticket to wealth in SC. It pays to diversify. :D
