Starfarer

Not sure what ^^ was for but okay

Yeah, im a bit concerned about the supply & demand for fuel, but at the same time, right now theres 400,000 members, assuming each one owns just 1 ship (some may own none, plenty will own 2+) then thats a lot of thirsty ships flying around in space, all having 1 identical demand (even the starfarer) then i think theres a good chance there will still be NPC ships taking jobs.

By the time we go live, the volume of active ships consuming fuel is going to be significant, and i'd bet even on open sale there would be 20-50 from Aurora/Mustang/300/Avenger/Hornet to every single Starfarer sold, not to mention Freelancer, Constellation, Cutlass, etc etc.

It'll still be a minority ship, supplying something everyone needs, including the NPC's. The same could be said for Food stuff, liquid or solid (assuming its in there) because even if we dont need to eat, the planets population will demand it and that job will be filled by someone.

I think theres going to be enough jobs out there for everyone, and the better paid jobs are going to be on the more isolated planets, and thats where the fun & challenge happens.

In our little BF clan, most of us have bought at least 1 ship, but we have a nice mixture, and we'll be looking to rotate jobs so that we all get to use our ships and help each other. So some times we'll do a fuel run and they'll give me an escort there & back, some times we'll jump on the Conny and go explore, and other times we'll do smaller runs on a Freelancer. I dont want to take 1 specific job, i want to mix it up, fuel runs, cargo smuggling, exploring, mining etc. I'd imagine most will do the same. I want to use the hopefully superior payout from fuel runs to help us (clan/fleet/org) buy better ships or upgrades, and paying friends to come along is something we'll be doing anyway so the only 'eating into profits' is going to be running costs, typically fuel and then ammo & repairs if required. If they had to fire ammo & get repairs, chances are i'd be in bits without them so no issue paying expenses & a cut of the profits.

Which is why I said....

due to it's assumed potential amount of currency earning yield.

We all know what happens when you ass u me.

Yes. I was just explaining the problem if that assumption about the Starfarer proves to be wrong, for those who haven't thought about that and are just going along with the assumption that the Starfarer is the "ultimate money maker ship." If that isn't spelled out clearly for everyone, your earlier statement could be misinterpreted and inadvertently encourage backers to buy the Starfarer to try to get rich quick, leading to the problem that I described.

I don't believe there will be a get rich quick exploit in SC. I believe that the game's complex dynamic economy system will prevent that -- and even if there was an exploit, CIG would intervene and correct it before it crashed the game's economy.

That's why IF I owned a Starfarer, I'd definitely want a Freelancer or smaller hauler ship too, which would be more cost efficient for smaller jobs. That's why I own a Freelancer. :D

Not sure how many of you caught this on the Dev site, but apparently we'll be able to land our Starfarers on the Bengal Carrier.

You may be able to off load product easily but it also offers obvious protection for the tanker while aboard. Now I need to find old tires or boat bumpers for the ship's sides.

Guys.... this topic aint funny... first thing when i open it i read

"its up for grabs now

https://robertsspace...earch=Starfarer"

not looking thats a topic from (2013) and i click on it and then

RSI tells me:

Your ship crashed into a rather large asteroid.
Your fuel tank was filled to the brim and the explosion disintegrates every atom.
There is nothing to see.

Anyone know if any of these larger transport ships would be able to carry other ships as the "cargo"?  Almost like the car carriers you see on the highway.  Maybe a mission could be to transport a load of Hornets to a system where they are in short supply.

I have a Starfarer, but im in the Exploration division and will hopefully only be busy exploring the first months of the game.

The Starfarer was an impulsive purchase because it was on a one day sell and I had USD left so I thought, heck why not.

I can always refund it and trade it for something else, but since its LTI I probably wont.

However! I wouldnt mind anyone from imperium Trade & Industry division to borrow my ship in start of the game to earn him/herself some cash.

I will be taking 10-15% of all profit earned from the trade though :P

Although this thread seems prety much dead, I will put in my $0.02

With its ability to refine fuel from gas giants and the like, I would expect this ship to be verry vaulable for exploration as it extends the range of any fleet to limitless unless other resources (ammunition, etc) are needed. Therefore, I would expect this ship (especially w/ LTI) to by highly coveted for a large range of operations

I wonder where the hydrogen scoops which the stargazer uses to collect fuel are located. I don't see any on the latest design.

You could probably fit a reclaimer in a Hull-D.

I'd really love to see this one in the hangar. I know they've stated it would be done before the release of Squadron 42. Strangely, we've seen more progress on the retaliator as of late. Perhaps both the retaliator and starfarer will see a simultaneous hangar release?

I doubt the Starfarer and Retaliator will be added to the Hangar at the same time.

I believe the Retaliator will be hangar-ready soon, because the Tali can be seen in the Hangar in the Arena Commander 1.0 animated headline on the RSI site, which suggests it will be added to the hangar soon.

The Starfarer is far behind the Tali in the ship development process, and it probably won't be ready for many months -- my prediction is the summer, at the earliest.

The problem with the Starfarer is that it's so much larger than any other hangar-ready ship, whereas the Tali is comparable in size to the Constellation, which fits into the hangars just fine. CIG might have to do another revamp of the Hangars to get the Starfarer inside.

Or they might have to make the Starfarer dock "externally", accessible through a docking collar somewhere in the hangar.

According to RtV the Starfarer is almost hangar and flight ready!

I am now reaching giddy levels of anticipation. Maybe we'll see it as early as next month then. I'll have to wave goodbye to my Khartu-al, but if it turns out really good I'll just pick it up in the PU.

They've been saying the Retaliator is very close for about 3 months now.

This is the first time they've suggested its close, and when we compare how much we've seen of the Retaliator in all this time (it was seen in hangar, looking hangar ready, during the CitizenCon presentation) and yet they're still working on it (animations).

As Reaven says, compare the 2 ships.

- We've seen very little of the Starfarer, we've seen the Retaliator inside and out for quite some time.

- The Retaliator is a single floor bunch of fairly narrow corridors. The Starfarer has 3 floors, and about 2-3x more internal space to work on.

- The Starfarer is needed for SQ42 (Sept-Nov?), but has little/no use in Arena Commander so they could probably make do with a WIP version over the summer without any issues, while the Retaliator may have a role in SQ42 (I suspect they'll make use of all the assets they can which are usable, why not) however it'll be perfectly suited to the gameplay style of Arena Commander.

Considering we're now hearing the same message the Tali owners have been getting for a few months, i see little to suggest we dont still have months to wait, like they already have and still nothing.

I have an LTI Starfarer, bought it a week after i found out about the game. I'd love nothing more than to see a Starfarer filling my hangar ASAP, but i think despite the comment "very close to being hangar ready" i think we're looking at March/April if we're lucky.

Heads are going to explode come March/April :D

They seem to be holding onto the Tali for some reason. I'm suspecting they are waiting for something. Like we saw with AC 1.0 when they released a bunch of ships together.

We may see stuff like the Tali and Starfarer together in some fashion both required for SQ42 and both under heavy development.

Makes you wonder if there is any connection to the upcoming fps/social module or planet side which is probably next in line....
