  • Aegis Surveyor – The Surveyor, from noted military contractor Aegis, is an industrial-quality salvage ship. Equipped with a reinforced cargo bay, a long-range jump drive and launch pods for unmanned drones, the Surveyor is an ideal ship for taking advantage of deep space wrecks. Tractor beams, floodlights, scanner options and docking ports round out the tool chest on this capable, utilitarian spacecraft.

I've got to have me one of these!!!!!

Pure pornography....  :D

indeed one of the most sexy spacecrafts iv heard of in some time and this allso confirmes that there will be DRONES in SC opening up a lot of other interresting questions like if there will only be utility drones or if combat drones will be in the game aswell

I am very interested to see how this ship turns out. I voted for Mining the first time around because I really want to see how mining will be in Star Citizen. I will be sticking to combat related things myself, but I want to see a very immersive world being built like we were promised, so it should allow players to fulfill all these various roles just like people in the real world have their various careers.

I wasn't interested in the RSI Orion mining platform, but the Aegis Surveyor definitely sounds like a ship worth owning. :)

Based on the description and the fact it's an Aegis Dynamics ship, I predict the Surveyor will be somewhere between the Retaliator and Starfarer in size and mass. I envision the Surveyor as a wider, stockier Retaliator, with nearly twice the cargo capacity, probably 50 tons. Based on that the Surveyor has tractor beams, drones, and a cargo hold (instead of a small hangar), I believe it's not capable of recovering whole ships, rather it'll chop up a derelict ship and strip it down to its skeleton. I think the Surveyor is intended to be a step up from the Freelancer, geared toward the dirty work of salvaging, instead of straight-up exploration. I predict the Surveyor will cost between $200 and $300.

If the Surveyor is how I imagine it, I might reclaim my Freelancer package and buy the Surveyor instead, because I won't need two exploration-salvage ships.

This ship looks interesting. I need to convince my brother to get it. I can blow stuff up with my Super Hornet, and the can get all the loot from it. That could be a great combo in space. Hornets with these. A salvage ship may be the best looter in the game.

I am so excited since I read the announcement it in the chairman´s letter! I love the typical Aegis design and can´t wait to see some concept art. I am pretty sure that it will look awesome (like every Aegis ship does). The Aegis Surveyor will def. be a must have for me! :)

The latest Wingman's Hangar said that the new salvage ship should be available "soon". So here's to hoping for this week!

That would be great! :)

But...

When WMH casually mentions that the Aegis Surveyor will be available "soon", I doubt that means this week. Typically when a new ship drops, the rumour mill is abuzz for a few weeks before it happens. WMH is just the first mention of the Surveyor release, and it's surely to spark interest and wanton speculation on the Forum that will stir backers into a buying frenzy. There will be some feedback from RSI, confirming some things about the Surveyor, and squashing the more crazy stuff; probably a concept art pic released or "leaked" by CIG; and finally the official announcement preceding its release. All of it is intended to hype up the Surveyor so that as many backers as possible will buy it.

I predict that IF the Surveyor is the next ship made available to pledge for, it won't be released until next month. And that probably means the Freelancer brochure won't be released for a couple more months, as in March or later. Because CIG wouldn't release the FL brochure and a new ship at the same time.

I'm considering buying the Surveyor when it's released -- but I'd prefer if the Freelancer brochure with the upgraded models and limited edition were released first. :D

No, there's been no information about the Surveyor or most of the other new stretch goal ships, unfortunately.

The Mustang was revealed recently and much talked about, but the movement to have it added to the pledge store was voted down by a small margin. Backers apparently want the full brochure, video commercial, and hangar implementation before they buy it.

CR answered a question about the Drake Herald in last week's 10 for the Chairman video segment, although it had more to do with the profession and mechanics of information running rather than any detailed I go about the Herald itself.

I expect we won't be hearing much about the Surveyor or other stretch goal ships for a while. They probably only existed in those brief written descriptions, and if we're LUCKY, those ships are being concepted and designed now -- because CIG is very busy and majority of the other ships have yet to receive the brochure treatment and added to the hangar. So as much as we want to see the Surveyor, I'm not getting my hopes up right now. Perhaps CIG will have some concept art to show of the Surveyor and new stretch goal ships at PAX East. :)

Posted this in the "Salvage!" thread but thought anyone who missed it there would enjoy it :3

You power up your warp drive and enter the coordinates relayed to you by the combat ops CO. The familiar surge of energy accompanied by its related sound kicks you into warp. You appear near a ever expanding cloud of debris intermixed by damaged ships. A quick glance around you realize it was a hard fought victory for your brothers. You smirk as you notice some particular juicy salvage opportunities as some of the ships managed to remain mostly intact.

"3, 1, Niner requesting permission to begin reclaim" your com hisses as you wait for confirmation. "Yeah yeah, we did call you boys for a reason, sweep this shit up"

Carl never was one for protocol.

You begin your sequence as you have a thousand times before, flipping switches and pressing buttons. Your ship rumbles under your feet as you bring all your drones online. Your eyes shift around deciding on what piece of salvage to focus on first. Every job is the same but each ship could hold some mysterious artifact or valuable piece of tech.

You suppose this is the reason you keep coming back, for that rare chance at a scrap of scythe tech or new improved armorment your org hasn't seen.

In reality your org needs you just as much as you need them. Everyone gets a piece of the pie, to the CO's directing fleets, pilots besting their opponents, or you getting into some sweet, Sweet salvage... and that's all right with you.

I love it when I'm right. :D

The Surveyor's specs look good. I'm on the fence whether to buy it because I'm definitely buying the Anvil Carrack, and I'm not sure if I need a dedicated salvage ship for Vanduul Hunting. When I see the concept art I'll know if it's a ship for me or not. ;)

Something I noticed about Aegis Dynamics ships is that they tend to have "large capacity" subsystems, like the Surveyors Size 7 power plant. But the subsystems installed in the base model Aegis ships are low quality, usually Q1 or Q2. The engines in particular are disappointing: both the Avenger and Surveyor have TR5 Max Engines, but they come equipped with TR3 engines. It's common for ships to have a power plant, engine, shield gen one size smaller than its max, but Aegis' engines are TWO thruster ratings lower than max.

The Surveyor's power plant is described as Max Durability and its engines are Max Efficiency, so they're not high performance either. Clearly Aegis ships need aftermarket upgrades to reach their full potential.
