Devil Khan
*PUKE* Surely, these would have been the 1st version and then canned? This is the ship they are now working on, the smaller one... that is the concept ship for many years ago... Still don't know if they are changed the rotating saddle bags and 3 would cause a "bad effect". So it's two or four I'd guess. GeraldEvans
They say on the video that there are twelve saddle bags which would be three rings still but they didn't show it. The concept art only shows eight. I take that back. On your lower picture the saddle bags are only on the center ring. You can see as they pan out that there is a ring on front and behind. Aquarius
I hope that does not double the amount of crew needed as well. When you look at the Connie in the last pic listed above it does seem to match the 340m number. The connie at 61m should be about 1/5 - 1/6 the length of the Orion and that does seem to match with the image. What a beast! Rhehaud180
I was already planning to pick one of these up this sale. Now I can't wait to get paid and for the finale days where everything is available are here. GeraldEvans and Aquarius

JeffCraig
I got some renders for ya'll: https://imgur.com/a/bfcOr These are at 340m, which matches what we saw in the ATV. I'm also confused about the concept art they showed today. They've updated all the old concept art to the Comm-Link section: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/engineering/14534-RSI-Orion-Concept-Vault It seems really odd to show some super old concept work and not show any actual progress of the exterior... I'm going to blame that one on Jared. My guess is that they're doing the internal whitebox first, before they make any changes to the exterior. That way they'll know which parts need to be expanded, etc. Now that it's massive, I don't really expect to see it again for a long, long time. Devil Khan
One thing, if the increase in size means the increase in cargo as well. If you can still exchange outside port you, need a hull d in the old size does it mean that the new one would be bigger for a hull e? hehe Seriously though I an really pissed off that those using the pics from concept (2-3 pics from AtV special) of the ungodliness sight of the pic I don't ever want to see as the fully working ship *shudder*. Karazantor
Mining was one of those professions that I wasn't entirely sure would work out at all interesting. Mind you, I did a fair bit of mining in EvE Online and found it strangely therapeutic after a long lousy day. So I sat down today, having a few days off work, and watched some of the online vids regarding the Prospector, and was actually impressed. This one in particular was really interesting, multiple failures and all: I'm keeping an eye on the Orion which I have on my buyback from the first concept sale, and combined with a Terrapin would be a huge moneymaker if used properly. I'm looking forward to this beast in-game, though obviously it may be some time yet. I'll probably get a prospector in the meantime and melt when the Orion comes closer to fruition. ChiefWarrant
Yeah, I’d written off the mining profession awhile back but @GeraldEvans showed me the light. CCUd my Starfarer so I can park in an asteroid belt, drink coffee and whistle while I work 😊 Karazantor

My main concern is though that strip mining with a Orion, at least on more profitable ores, could well be far more dangerous vis a vis piracy and random attacks, than fuel mining. Certainly strong escort would be needed for the Orion regardless. We shall see. ChiefWarrant
CloudyDaze
I am going to primarily combat but wanted a couple of ships to generate income if needed, I ended up picking up an Orion. I agree with @JediKel on the greater danger that will be present mining with the Orion in space versus Prospector mining planetside.
ChiefWarrant
Orion just had it’s price increased to $450. 😬.
Drum
I have always been excited about the aspects of mining and the Orion has grown from original specs. It is now 225 times larger than the Prospector. These are no specs to relate the 32 scu of ores the Prospector pods hold to the amount on an Orion, but that size difference says it will be huge, even accounting for all the refining equipment installed eating space. You can theory a little looking at sizes. The dual double pod on the Prospector appears to be about half of a stack poking out of an Orion and Orion has 24 stacks. I get a tingle when consider a good load of rocks brings 3,000+ and then multiply that by 48. Plus the fact that the Orion is refining it, so inert materials (a large part of a Prospectors 32 scu) need not apply and refined ores have to be worth more -> which brings the loot bag to epic levels. Three times the cost to go from a rock hopper to a capitol ship seems cheap and you could even use it risk free by renting out the refining aspect to people that want a better sale than a pile of raw ore would bring. NOTE: I had always assumed you could divert inert materials out the backside of the Prospector (poor man's refining) and there is even a flap like door back there. Not happened yet, but would be a substantial improvement on load payouts, even if you had to hit several rocks to fill up the Prospector. buzby x
SO...now we need this to mine quantum fuel and the starfarer scoops hydrogen...basically what everybody's ship does for free anyway...
Gustav.Henrik
I do have an Orion but im very much considering switching it for a planet landable trading ship instead. Reason being is that in the current PU mining income is very much fixed its just what the highest value minable resource is priced at. However you can always be creative and use 3rd part resources like Versemate to find the most profitable trade route at any given time. Also the biggest oppurtunity for using opportunities of the game being "Unbalanced" and making huge UEC before it is patched should likely be in trading since it covers every single buyable and sellable good in the whole game, while mining is limited to only what you can mine. I mean suddenly you might be able to sell hundred of SCU's of drugs to a reststop because of any reason or mistake on CIG's end just as an example. My experience playing ELite Dangerous also thought me trading was hugely more oppurtunistic with the "Robigo Runs" for those that remember that reference. Mining never had any similar abusable unbalanced situation during my time playing the game.

VoA
In addition to the Carrack going up in Price to $500 so did the Orion (glad I got both at $350 / $325 concept sales respectively) THE ORION Industrial / Heavy Mining ByROBERTS SPACE INDUSTRIES $575.00USD
VoA
I think we'll see another "Large" mining ship since the Orion is now not a Large ship but Huge ship Prospector = Small Mole = Medium Large Mining Ship = ? Huge Mining Ship = Orion I love Medium size ships that are also "compact" relative to their function and this shows how efficiently designed this ship is when you compare it to a Cutlass (other examples include the Redeemer and even the Connies - basically ship usualbe volume vs overall mass of the ship) Danakar Endeel
