The bengal will be post battle and left as wreckage with all of its "stuff" strippes including armor plates even toilet seat covers. It will cost a huge amount to the org(s).

It will be classifies as wreckages, not deralices.

Derelicts ARE wrecked ships, not just abandoned. Yes, we will have to repair the majority of the ship but there will be some leftover data or hardware that tgeh military would prefer to keep behind closed doors.

@LeroyJenkins You raise some solid points.

1. They have multiple manned and unmanned turret batteries, their passive defenses are nothing to scoff at. You wouldn't get anywhere with a swarm of Aurorae unless you have TEST-level numbers behind you, and even then those guns are so puny it might not matter. But if they can just fly into your hangar and prevent you from launching other fighters they cna pretty much turn it into a FPS contest. The main determining factor is whether or not you can get a platoon of marines on board to start shutting down systems and capturing the ship.

The Bengal itself has over 90+ turrets. That's excluding missile launchers, countermeasures, (maybe) drones, and the damned fighters and bombers it'll have on board. I doubt a TEST-sized fleet of Auroras could even approach the hangar given sufficient warning, which the Bengal will almost surely have.

And don't forget that this type of asset is so valuable and so powerful that its safety will demand a large presence wherever it goes. You can look at real-life carrier groups for an example. IRL, carriers project a sphere of influence so large that it forces enemies to address it by either fighting it, running away, or hiding. However, this paints a gigantic target on it. Carriers travel with a permanent escort of frigates and cruisers to compensate for this.

Super-capitals in the PU will attract a shit-ton of game content due to their novelty, rarity, and impact. If the Imperium ever finds its hands on one, it'll likely never see an engagement without other friendly capitals and dedicated defense platforms. Bengals (and potentially other super-capitals) will end up as flagships for mobile battle groups with military might and influence of a degree that only a concentrated and committed effort by adversaries will be able to address.

A fleet of Auroras? Bah. Super-capitals in the PU will involve massive battles of the largest scale the game will ever see.

2. Space is massive, but so is a Bengal. My guess is you'll be able to detect something that large from pretty much anywhere in the system as long as it's within your sensor range. The shields alone would produce a larger EM signature than a Javelin or Idris.

Agreed. If an org wants to locate a Bengal, they will. Don't forget that other orgs' intelligence divisions will have eyes-and-ears within Imperium and other notable orgs. A quick DM out of game will ruin any attempt of secrecy for assets manned by many players.

3. Yes, they can equip jump drives (and likely have them installed by default) but it will use an astronomical amount of fuel per jump making it prohibitively expensive to move around constantly.

I doubt that super-capitals will be able to do much of anything without incredible expenses. It's too strong a balancing mechanism for their power.

4. There will be enough players online in Imperium at any given time to man a Bengal, i'd assume. At the very least, enough for a skeleton crew actively working on it at any given time. I get the feeling we'd have enough people running T&I jobs in their spare time to fund a decent number of NPC crewmen for the organization once we find a Bengal. We'd have someone cram a Genesis full of em and ship em out as quickly as possible once we found the thing so people could Smith into the Bengal at a moment's notice.

TBH I don't think that many people would be online on a repaired Bengal at any given time. Despite being wicked cool, a large number of NPC's will probably deal with maintenance and other menial tasks that would otherwise demand attention. Oh, I'm sure there'll be a rotating skeleton crew of a couple people to make sure no one robs it out from under our noses, but it'll probably be NPC-land otherwise.

Two exceptions. One will be its initial repair-and-equip process. It will require a ton of multidisciplinary effort to get it online and a heightened guard, as this is when it will be at its most vulnerable. The other is for operations. For that, it'd probably be prudent to wait for CIG's update on how players will get around in the 'verse. We haven't heard about the Agent Smithing mechanic in a while... is it still planned for implementation?

I imagine that, if CIG will ever allow us to fix (and keep) large capital warships the costs will be astronomical and would require the combined effort of the entire org.
Not only repairs but refueling, security patrols, material delivery etc.

Getting your hands on certain components for a ship like a Javelin or a Bengal, like a massive reactor or a shield generator... would probably be very difficult, insanely expensive nd require a high, if not the highest standing with the UEE navy. You'd have to buy it from a official UEE contracted manufacturer with the proper paperwork, load the thing up on a large carrier and then fly everything to the site under a heavily armed escort.

A few years(?) ago CIG said they will seed some derelict Bengals into the game but it's unclear what we could do with them. What we do know is that a derelict form of every ship is now part of the ship pipeline so expect to be able to find any kind of ship in the verse.

That's the balancing mechanic. These ships - by design - will have enormous combat capability and will project a shit-ton of power. They'll blow the other guy outta the water, no problem. In return, we'll have to throw all the monies and labours at them. Costs well-paid, IMO. I want some of these in our fleet. T&I will have their work cut out for them!

This is the root of the whole "repair and online large capitals" thing. I think it's safe to say this is confirmed for the PU. Hopefully, there'll be other super-caps out there too, like the Pegasus-class or the Indefatigable-class.

Whether derelicts will be hidden and ready at PU launch is the real question here. And how long it'll take to find them!

New Bengal and Idris models

spoiler
renderTimingPixel.pngPosted by

I was digging through the 3.3 patch and noticed that along with the Valkyrie and other new ships, the new Bengal and Idris models are in the files now. I haven't found the Bengal's bridge yet and still have to import the thrusters/engines which are located in another folder but here are some pics:

Bengal 1 Bengal 2 Idris

The default shading in 3ds max doesn't do the models justice without applying face-weighted normal script to the geometry, but im still working on piecing them together. Just thought some of the 3d model junkies might like to know they're there.
