Torn! Halp! Plaese! Ares Ion or Redeemer??

Recommended Posts

With both ships potentially launching in 3.15, I'm looking to snatch one up.

The Redeemer looks to be a hell of a gunship with the added prospect of having a bit of modularity in making it a dropship.

The Ion is a Cap. ship destroyer (that sounds cool as hell). Plus it's a F**KING GUN WITH A SHIP ATTACHED. It could also be really useful for ERTs and/or events.

Need some advice here my dudes.

I should say something about the different scope and what do you want to do with it, but really, how mnay people are you going to play most of the time ( and do you have multicrew ships already)?

Because if you can't have a couple of guys onboard pretty frequently I'd stick with the Ion.

Currently, I believe the only multicrew ship I have is the MSR. I'd like to get some people together and do bounties and things next patch. Maybe get some more events together as well. Tough call. Ion is pretty niche and the Redeemer is very reliant on all guns manned. Hmmmm Maybe Scorpius is my best bet. Those wings really make me nervous though.

If you want to giht the Scorpius seems fine, it lends well to multiplayer without being totally to it... if you have the patience to wait for the ship to be done.

The loaner seems to be the Hurricane which is a ship that seems improved from 1.14, so all good there.

I would get the ION  between the first two because I regret not getting one when I got my Inferno.

I have melted the redeemer twice...

Scorpius I have a CCU but will probably melt it.

I decided against the Ion due to its use-case niche. The Ion is stated as being strong against Capital ships. With the new combat system in 3.14, I don't see the Ion being able to hold its own against more maneuverable fighters with more weapons onboard. This narrows its use-case even further for me as you'll need escorts for defense. It'll probably be very useful in ERTs and turn HHs into dust in seconds.

The Scorpius is looking like a very capable fighter as a solo pilot and even better with a dedicated gunner on the remote turret. The turret also gives the ship a boost to defense given that it can shift positions and have much more outgoing fire coverage.

I picked the Inferno too due to accurate reasoning and lenghty pondering based on the fact that no sane human being can say no to a friggin 25 meter long gatling... so sue me😜

TRUST ME. I'm right there with you. I want a gun with a ship attached.

Get both and with a bit of luck and patience you might be able to save a ton of cash! Ever since CIG started offering discounted Warbond CCUs during last year's Anniversary Sale and continuing this during other events as well I now have the ability to give myself a lot of discounts by making CCU-chains.

The idea is very simple. Wait for CIG to launch an event and then check if they are offering any discounted Warbond CCUs. If they do get a few inexpensive CCUs for $5-$10 cash. Wait for the next event and repeat. Also keep an eye out for times when CIG releases a small cheap ship/vehicle for the first time. Like when they offered that Cyclone-MT Warbond with LTI for $65. Those are great items as they usually have a $10 discount compared to their CCU-value and they also come with LTI. ;)

In the meantime start rummaging through your account and start writing out your CCU-chain. Make note of ships in the Ship Upgrades section that are potentially "safe" (always available and unlikely to increase in price) so you can always fill gaps with some store credit if needs be.

Thanks to CIG's discounted Warbond CCUs I was able to get me a $290 Vanguard Harbinger with LTI for only $145!

Below is how I created my CCU-chain with items that I had collected over time :)

Quote

HARBINGER LTI

  1. $65.00 -- SHIP - TUMBRIL CYCLONE MT - LTI = Value $75.00
  2. $5.00 --- UPGRADE - CYCLONE MT TO GLADIUS WARBOND EDITION = Value $90.00
  3. $10.00 -- UPGRADE - GLADIUS TO ESPERIA TALON WARBOND EDITION = Value $115.00
  4. $10.00 -- UPGRADE - ESPERIA TALON TO CUTLASS RED WARBOND EDITION = Value $135.00
  5. $5.00 --- UPGRADE - CUTLASS RED TO ANVIL BALLISTA STANDARD EDITION = Value $140.00
  6. $10.00 -- UPGRADE - ANVIL BALLISTA TO GLADIATOR WARBOND EDITION = Value $165.00
  7. $0.00 --- UPGRADE - GLADIATOR TO F7C-M SUPER HORNET = Value $170.00 (very old $0 CCU that wasn't cleaned up by the script apparently)
  8. $15.00 -- UPGRADE - F7C-M SUPER HORNET TO HURRICANE STANDARD EDITION = Value $195.00
  9. $5.00 --- UPGRADE - HURRICANE TO CRUSADER ARES INFERNO WARBOND EDITION = Value $220.00
  10. $5.00 --- UPGRADE - CRUSADER ARES INFERNO TO CONSTELLATION ANDROMEDA STANDARD EDITION = Value $225.00
  11. $5.00 --- UPGRADE - CONSTELLATION ANDROMEDA TO MERCURY STAR RUNNER WARBOND EDITION = Value $260
  12. $10.00 -- UPGRADE - MERCURY STAR RUNNER TO VANGUARD HARBINGER WARBOND EDITION = Value $290

Total: $145.00 + $7.50 Timberline Paint

As you can see, with a bit of patience, luck, and planning you too can give yourself some pretty nice discounts. And it's completely legal because you are merely purchasing discounted Warbond CCUs from CIG and then combining those as intended. :D

100% Ion : this will be an unique ship able to act as a torpedo bomber with a lot more ammunitions (therefore being able to stay longer on target).

On the other hand the reedeemer is supposed to be a combination of gunship and transport ... so exactly like the Mil-Mi 24 helicopter IRL.
If you look closely at the concept of this ship it is a testimonial to operationnal inefficiency : you will have to get close to the target (remember that the lasers repeaters range is getting nerfed to bring shorter distance of engagement) thus endangering your load.
Then, as you can't see below the horizon in the cockpit, you will need to have a second crewman as a gunner.

You can have the same effect as a single pilot in your constellation (with probably a better shield, fuel , and cargo capacity).

Selling various ships. With this past anniversary sale I'm starting to get a better idea of how I want my own personal fleet to take form so giving people the chance to grab some of my buybacks. Prices and melt value as well as whether they are concept sales or CCU'd have been listed. Payment can be sent via paypal FROM VERIFIED ACCOUNTS ONLY. Prices include fees. Discount can be provided for f&f, is that even allowed? If it's allowed then it's true lol, if it's not allowed then obviously disregard. I can send pictures of stuff upon request, I'm just honestly too lazy to do it.

For the CCUs just message me letting me know what you're looking for and I can let you know 1) if I can do it 2) price 3) the melt value 4) what kind of insurance it would have.
Let me know if you have any questions!

I have a redeemer which is going to be a gunship only so I would like to upgrade it to the caterpillar because I want to do cargo runs in Star Citizen.

      hello citizen,
the redeemer is not sold anymore.
i hope it won t hurt too much your upgrade chains.

i see it as a direct reaction to the $0 ccus redeemer -> merchantman that many people are sitting on.

edit: the redeemer is now a vailable until july 10th.
