Is It Time?

Rocket Man

Well, this year's Citizen Con provided a LOT of information to us.  And one particular item that stood out to me was the permanent persistence.  Chris Roberts talked about not wiping the accounts after one of the upcoming releases.  That leads to....

Is it time to come out of hibernation?  Time to earn that sweet, sweet UEC?  Time to start performing Org tasks?

I am excited for the near future! :)

End of the wipes will effectively signal the start of the game for many and since actions will have now have permanent consequences, I expect player interactions to be very different from what they are today. Tentatively scheduled for Summer of 2020, so expect it sometime in 2021/22... Nevertheless, now would be a good time to practice some Org-wide tasks!

I hope so.

I feel we should def get something going for Theatres of War or even 3.8. Like hopefully the Argo Mole multicrew mining experience means you can actually have meaningful gameplay in small groups. I don't like any gameplay in current or past patches and combat is still shit but hopefully with their QoL focus and devcycle change + new Gamemode that changes last patch had already some improvements.

I hate how performance is still shit and if I go trade and crash I can loose all my invested cash. Hopefully that improves in coming patches.

Will def play more than currently (barely at all) for coming patches and modes and when Persistence comes.

That said if they still don't get their shit together and Theatres of War gameplay is still shit I can also see interest falling very shortly after the patches again. Ultimately we need good gameplay and performance before playing SC for longer times makes sense for peoples. If playing the game is pain then ppl willl loose interest again.

I ran around today and yesterday during the Expo and I would have to say that the FPS is up quite a bit and everything looks much smoother than it did last year at this time.  The Expo last year was nice, but all the AI would jump up when entering a room, stutter all over the place and elevator animations/transitions were horrible.  This year it is smooth as butter on my PC with the video setting on High with a few tweaks.  I have the same machine as I did last year, so hardware is a constant between the two years.  I am currently running a i7 6700k, 32Gb DRAM, M2. SSDs, Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti and everything is water cooled via EKWB.  Hopefully, everyone is having fun at the Expo and I may see you around browsing the ships at the Expo.

If they're bringing persistence and eliminating problem areas like needing to spend a bunch of time re-binding your keys/setting up a HOSAS, then I can definitely see a lot of people returning to SC and sticking around.

Keybinding has been one major hurdle for me: as I play with ESDF instead of WASD for all my movements on foot and the HOTAS settings for my flying.  I had to rebind a few times and it got old fast.  Hopefully, I can keep my setup soon.

The only org tactic we could begin working on as is would be escorting. But even that isn't entirely viable now since there isn't a payment system yet.

Once we start keeping the stuff we earn and don't have to risk everything if you want to do a cargo run and then the game crashes and you lose everything, that will be the day 85% of the dread of playing this game will disappear, after that sure keybindings and more missions but meh lol just let me keep my UEC and ship i buy xD
If the new game mode makes it so you can jump in for under an hour before work or bed then yeah i can see a larger group of people start playing again for that reason also, which in turn will hopefully make CIG balance thing out some more
