Argo SRV

Memoriam

Recommended Posts

Well apparently there exists a new argo ship in the lore.

"I’ll use an Argo SRV to tow in a busted 325a " (quote 1st paragraph)

edit: I dont know what SRV stands for, but I dont think that it is a Argo MPUV since the MPUV would be to small to tow a 325a.

@Weehamster made an album https://imgur.com/a/l1o8rMO

Focus: Tugship Designed as a dedicated tugship, the SRV features a custom MaxTraction tractor plate and integrated ArmAssist system. This innovative configuration, coupled with the rugged reliability of Argo engineering, makes the SRV one of the most effective traction vehicles available on the civilian market. Length: 00.0m | Width: 00.0m | Height: 0.0m | Mass: 00,000kg | Min/Max Crew: 1/1

I wonder what this means for the planned Crucible Tug.  On one hand its feasible, but the other hand its less needed unless you want to tug something big...

@GRIZZ - remember I thought you would want a ship to Tow since you are a Salvage Specialist - we'll here's your chance :)

Thanks, That second image explains the need for more than one SRV! I've always liked the Argo and if the previous variants had QD drives I would probably be flying one a lot more;  adding the SRV to my fleet feels like a necessity for any future S&R Ops.

Thus the reason to buy the Tow Team Pack where you can get multiple SRV's for a deal :)

Nice looking ship... bit on the pricey side.

It's could also be "pricey" to leave a stranded or distressed ship in an area of hostile space....... thus the Tug ship (SRV) will be a very valuable ship.   I think the price is justified as a result and I love the fact that you can use multiple ones for larger loads (like was originally conceptualized for the Anvil Crucible Tug variant in JP)

Forgive my ignorance, (Only been here for 5 years!) I'm not sure if it has been brought up before, but with the release of the SARgo is there a need for another Division? Separate from Trade and Industry or Exploration that focuses on Search and Rescue: Incorporating professions such as Medicine, Salvage and Repair/Refuel?

As I'm getting older and reflexes aren't as fast as they once were, Non-combat roles such as these appeal more and more each day.

I like this ship. it shares some looks with the Vulture (Which is odd because it's a different manufacturer). A tugboat has been a long time requested vehicle.
As a salvager I'd love to get one myself but right now I can't afford it, especially for that price... and also I do have some gripes with none of the mechanics for this ship being in the game yet. Yes, it's a concept... but so was my Vulture. And my Hull B. And even my Reclaimer which is now just a glorified cargo hauler.

With salvage and repair delayed again and no ETA on if this includes tractorbeams or when we will actually get tractorbeam mechanics, I don't really feel comfortable getting yet another ship I can't use for it's intended purpose in the near future.

Looks cool but atm it doesn't feel all that enticing to me. For the same price I'd rather buy a Vulture or Prospector as I'm more interested in heading out to salvage/mine in peace whenever I decide instead of being at the beck and call of someone else (and for that reason I own both a Vulture and a Prospector). :)

Not really envisioning the job of being a Roadside Assistance Guy (RAG) where I have to wait for idiots to do idiot stuff just to tell me to tow their idiot ship (only for them to shoot me in the head and steal my tow-truck and use it to tow away their ship while leaving me dead in space). ;)

Also wondering if we'll ever see that third Argo variant with the medical pod as I was more interested in that one. :(

I still stand by my stance. 2x Argos for a connie. How many are needed for a Reclaimer?

I see in my head the same for the tugs at sea and space, that's if a tug does tug. Different movement for the two, but the same result for mass. I really like the design, buuuuuuuuuuuuuut the placement of the main engines.

However, it's nice that it can tug a single large container. Still price is too much for this Hull-A/B for just doing tug work (which you really won't do it that often) unless you have a glorified flying fork lift around the starport.

Anyway back to the tug, Still think it is over priced, warbond is a "special discount" for real money as it will go up once.

I like the look of the ship. would have the engines moved the out further or expandable, so as not to burn the front of the towed ship. There must be sizeable room inside as there is a glass window looking out for tractor control.

Still feel it's too pricey for a "weak" ship. Like I said, most people would only get their valuable ship towed.

Official sale page is up with more information. Store credit price is $150

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/16971-The-ARGO-SRV

Some noteworthy tidbits of info:

  • SPACIOUS CABIN More than enough space for you and a small number of passengers.

  • CARGO HOLD 10 SCU capacity assures your stuff is just as comfortable as you and your passengers.

So not only can it tow vehicles, but it can also carry 4 passengers and has a cargohold with 10SCU of cargo. It also has a Quantum Drive and a Jump Drive according to the brochure.

Im a real fan of this ship. As Reaven knows i've been waiting for a tug concept for years now.

The only question is how many should i get... I need 1 to work with my Orion to move rocks, 1 to help position ships for my Reclaimer, 1 to help my Hull D with storage containers, 1 to help with my kraken... man i should get the 4 pack!!!

😁

Aj

Also can we pick up massive boulders, in atmo and drop them on enemies habs/out posts? just a thought...

Yeah i can really see that happening a lot. I think only a small percentage of players actually genuinly need help and we'll see abuse of this gameplay all the time.
I know we'll have a bounty system but since most people will get stranded outside of monitored UEE space, this will be a nightmare. I can also see Noobifier's concern for people stealing parked ships. I see most uses for this ship being in a salvage role and in larger groups.

Again CIG doesn't just sell a concept ship, they sell a concept game-mechanic. Something they haven't fleshed out, something we have no idea on how it will actually work in the game. I reckon we won't see these mechanics for at least another three years at best.

Yep, as such I think this ship will become more of an 'orgmates only' ship. Like an Imperium member asking on Discord "Hey guys, I hit an asteroid in Caliban while farming Vanduul and now my engines have fallen off; can someone help me?". :P

That said, the SRV is growing on me a bit. Most notably because (unlike the Vulcan) it is a 1-man career ship in the same vein as the Prospector/Vulture so maybe I'll get one just to have one. If it can also be used for other purposes like carrying prefab modules and stuff there might be some additional use for it once Imperium gets to building their own moon-base and stuff. ;)

Oh yeah it's definitely a great idea to have a tug ship. Just for salvage and repair it could potentially be great and the idea of a group of these tugging a large ship is awesome. I hadn't even considered the basebuilding.

Yes, otherwise it would be near useless in its job.

Why would you design a tug boat that can't return with its tow?

maybe you just finished designing a flight model where you can't toggle decoupled mode and someone challenged you to make something equally stupid?

3:19  ...no...3:10...he starts in on decoupling...
