Drake Kraken

Recommended Posts

We don't know for sure but its likely (and there is good speculation on Spectrum) that we will see the Drake Kraken as the concept Sale During Citizencon (I'll update OP then)

The Drake Kraken is a capital ship that has space onboard to park and store a few medium ships (up to Freelancer-sized) and transport them around the verse. It serves as a mobile truck stop in function with a small hub of stores (some less than legit) to help restock.[1]

A "game-changing" Drake ship will be sold.
The Kraken is the only major ship we know of for Drake. It could be something new, but everyone's running with the Kraken idea.

kk7FT1W.png

The Kraken was first introduced in 2017-12-01 in the vote "YOU Pick the Next Drake Ship". It came second in the vote to be the next Drake ship by backers with 19% of 37696 voters.[1]

I'll repeat what I said in Spectrum as a Devil's Advocate, "This is an unrealistic expectation and lot's of people will be let down if they expect the Kraken to be released at Citizencon". IMO I do not see the Kraken as a "game changing" ship, either. I'll add that it may be something we've never heard of before, such as a terraforming ship. But, I advise to go into Citizencon with zero expectations. If we get the Kraken, great, if we don't, oh well. It would be sad to see tons of people hoping to get their hands on and making plans with their bank accounts only to be disappointed.

Why is it unrealistic?   Remember this is a concept sale - not a flyable ship.  Making a concept for a large capital ship is very doable - look at the Pioneer last year (my favorite ship) :)

Disagree with you here as well.... per below - this is a game changer (since no other ship ....... not a Javelin........ not an Idris......... not even a Hull E........ can transport medium size ships = only small ships) ++++ a Small Hub of Stores (Retail ship) - to build up Trading like with the Banu MM ===== thus game changer :)

Hey!

Anyway, I don't particularly like Drake for Carriers. Personally  4/5 medium size ships I'd hope for and I know I am going to be disappointed.

Per above - how can you be disappointed with something that this ship could do that other ships can't do - per above.   I think it is a game changer for sure - and I doubt you would be disappointed.   Drake is actually a perfect ship for this....... you need cheap construction....... easy to fix....... easy to maintain..... cheap to operate === for it to be profitable :)

CR and the Lore team have nixed this idea many times over the years.  Terraforming is only reserved for large NPC corporations.

Actually the Kraken is expected.......... and CR has followed through with many of his "idea ships"........ that even got voted down by the community at first.  Example is the Crucible, Terrapin, Hercules (was one of these potential Drake ships), etc......... so I put good odds on seeing the Kraken......... especially since it is Citizencon and they like to Impress people - like the Pioneer for Citizencon :)

I'll agree to disagree with all of your points and stick with zero expectations. There's no confirmation of anything, and theorizing won't do any good. If it comes, then it comes, cool. But if not, no sweat lost, no tears, no "damn you CIG you said the Kraken was coming" as if they actually did and I know that will happen if it doesn't show up in the concept sale. All we can do is wait, everything more is redundant.

Edit: let me add that it brings nothing new, truck stops aren't a new concept and there's nothing game changing about it. If it's a mobile hub, we've all talked about doing that with an Idris or Javelin for years. The Kraken doesn't bring a new game changing idea into the PU.

See every time  they say truck stop I keep getting this imagine of fat truck and an even fatter trucker. *shudder*.

I see a Port of Call  - Like Babylon 5 but smaller (obviously).   If you read some of the Jump Point Mag. from last year you'll know that the Bazaar on Levski is intended to be retail spaces for Players to Rent.   So.......... these Truck Stops (which there will be a few even between Crusader and Hurston)......... will likely be these of stores :)

eh... it won't be cheap but not super expensive - mainly since it is a Drake ship...... but it will (as a result) have maintenance issues (which will produce cool game play) :)

Well time to be pleasantly surprised :)

There is confirmation if you know where to look.   Understand...... JP mag. per above...... understand...... truck stops...... per RTV last week...... understand that CR has pushed his initial ideas even when voted down by community (per my previous post).

Also....... I have a 100% theory crafting record on Wave 4 + Wave 5 + Wave 6 ships so far.   Not all of the ideas are uniquely mine....... (some - and even this one - is reinforced by others speculating - but I am very good at picking up on CIG hints that turn out to be true)...........  Has CIG snuck in a surprise ship with no prior clues or me being able to speculate on it - yes......... but when I have posted a concept ship early like this - I've been lucky every time :)

I really don't even see this as a long shot......

I see the Kraken as a 80%  especially since it is defined as a Drake Ship....... and a Game Changer - which a large ship transport (transporting medium ships) + being a Retail Bazaar = Game Changer per the description.

See the post I just made about the Hull E on the Hull Ship post -

============

The Kraken carrying Medium size ships (as oppose to small) = Game Changer

The Javelin and Idris aren't really "mobile hubs" - they are military ships who's function and layout doesn't promote them being a "Hub"...... however....... the Javelin is really no more than a "shell" for players so if you want you could convert it into a Hub but that would be a waste.

A mobile Bazaar has been done with the Banu MM but not yet realized....... (and even with the Bazaar at Levski  per JP)  so it is a Game Changer really at this point bringing Player owned retail kiosks to the PU :)

However, one thing. If it is a carrier and CAN resupply/re-arm the ships it does apply to me more. However, unless it can carrier 4/5 ships minimum. Then I wouldn't even look at it.

Edit @VoA One thing the Devs said it(Hulls) is only for transporting and not separating mid flight.

You just answered your own question with your "Edit"

The Kraken I think is unlikely to be a Carrier - more of a Transport ship - not an In-Combat refuel / resupply / repair ship like the Javelin and Idris and Polaris.   The Kraken won't be a military ship really just a Ship Transport / Port of Call / Bazaar ------- that's my take on it.   I could be wrong on this but I doubt it - fairly confident we'll see the Kraken and it will be per this description ;)

I just red some more on Spectrum and this guy has it right on - similar to my take on it above....

Kraken mobile truck stop: between $900 and $1000. Limited number sold (about the same quantity as the pioneer). Pads for 6 medium ships (or 12 fighters) accommodation for around 24 "guests" + 12 crew of the Kraken itself, some shop space like the merchantman, but not as much, basic repair facilities and refueling capability. I expect it will be around the length of the Idris, but wider to accommodate all the pads.

From the movie Spaceballs. The central part and thrusters even looks similar in design compared to a Drake Caterpillar :P

I saw your post on this on Spectrum as well @Danakar Endeel

Conceptually you are probably not far off - and the advertising signs aren't as silly as they seem - and CIG has done it before.   If you've watched any of Disco Lando's (Jared's) old WMH video submissions you'll see that he would TOTALLY push for this........ and if you remember the Hull Series -  with the advertising ........ and when they came out with the Xi'An refueling in lore you'll see we might see this one day - hopefully with the Kraken

CTR
Industry Ship refueling and repair services
Race Xi’an
Fate Owned by Jysho Corporation
Founded End of the 29th century
Demographic Civillian

CTR is a franchise of stations offering refueling and repair services owned by the Xi’An company Jysho Corporation.[1] It is the one of the first fully Xi’An-owned businesses to open and operate in UEE space. It has a large presence in the Xi’An Empire and UEE systems close to the Perry Line.[2][3] Since Xi’An culture prides itself on efficiency, and repair operations conducted by CTR are very efficent compared to its Human counterparts.[4]

History

CTR was formed around the end of 29th century, it enjoyed a steady rise to prominence within the Xi’An Empire by providing fuel and repair services at affordable prices, eventually becoming one of the most trusted providers to the Xi’An civilian population.[2]

In February of 2944, the UEE Senate granted Jysho Corporation a business certificate to open franchises in the UEE.[1] In 2944-02-09, the representatives of the Jysho Corporation came to the city of Aydo on Green to open first CTR in the UEE, which is also the first time a wholly-Xi’An corporation has opened a business on a Human planet. Over the years CTR has slowly been gaining market share in the Human space.[2]

Queue facepalm mode ...

*Facepalm*

End facepalm mode.

Ok at least She does have 6/12 ships.

If I'd build it. I'd put bridge up front with flight bridge at front (facing the back). The 6 bays spilt 3x port and 3x starboard. Having the bays and not pads so have them elevator into the bay. Slow moving, but long range.

During an ATV or Revers the verse, a developer said that it will take 8 - 12 refueling stops to go to Hurston.
The game changer may just be a ship with enough fuel capacity to perform this trip in 1 or 2 refuelling stops ...

But it will be nice that they put in line a true escort carrier : the actuel designs waste a vaste amount of room : the Idris and Javelin are not very efficient to host an air wing ...
A more "room efficient" ship is certainly feasible...

On the other side, if it said that Drake will make something a little bit different from their pirate / utilitary ships ... it may not be a combat ship ...
They already have cargo, data runing, interdiction and multi mission ships ... what is missing in the line up ?
VIP ship ? ... not realy the style of the company
Recon / racing ship
Mining / Repair / Scavenger ship
Science vessel
Colonial ship ... I will put my bet on a small outpost building ship ... to setup drug labs in remote location ^^

It is most likely the 1st mini carrier in SC. A pirate carrier/mobile base which can hold a few ships for a pirate clan. I guess limited repair facilities, refueling, leisure and some bazaars for guns or clothing. Being Drake they will probably call it something else but it will be a pirate mini carrier. 😉 Just look at the name “Kraken” that describes a creature that attacks ships out of the blue. (Maybe it has 4 “tentacles” that hold ships which can launch forward and attack the enemy😂 ).  They could also add limited reclaiming machinery in the form of tentacles to make the name even more appropriate ...

Agreed - The "Combat" carriers will be the military ships like the Idris, Javelin, Polaris...... aside from Snub carriers like the Connies

The Kraken is unlikely to be a Carrier Ship (launching / restocking / refueling in a combat situations).... rather it will be a Non_Combat - Transport for Ships - similar to the Hull E but it may also have non-combat support functions like re-fueling.

Anything that can launch and recover ships can be considered a combat carrier, it just depends which ships it launches 😉 The kraken will be less capable than an Idris but I think it will be more capable than you think @VoA 😉

No I am pretty sure I am spot on with this one........ and the Kraken won't be equivalent to the Pegasus or Bengal (since it can hold medium ships).

There is a big difference (and CR and CIG has already make the comparison with the Hull E Concept Sale - for Combat Carrier vs a Ship Transport) - between a military (combat) carrier and a Ferry or Transport Ship...... see images below to catch a clue ;)

Naaaaaaaaaaaah I think it will be more like this:

Bengal: (Nimitz class carrier, displacement about 100.000 tons, 90 aircraft and 5500 crew)

USS_Nimitz_in_Victoria_Canada_036.thumb.jpg.9ad7a997f85eb3e2d63eb4f527cc20c4.jpg

Idris is more like this (US next gen frigate contender):

Austal-Frigate-Rendering-Sea-Air-Space-2017-1024x666.thumb.jpg.6158b948556b1519d833b1a43d0ccd40.jpg

Kraken :HTMS Chakri Naruebet (displacement 11.000 tons, 10 aircraft and 600 crew)

rtn-chakri-naruebet-911_6.jpg.51ae7d27ef2d16352b9d736929d45ce8.jpg

It could be that it looks like one of those old carriers which the USA made on the chassis of cruisers, that would be in line with drake's cheap, functional but ugly design philosophy 😉 :

1920px-USS_Cabot_(CVL-28).thumb.jpg.fbae24ae3ab38e7ffd11b003bc3a1268.jpg

Carriers come in all sizes from Huge (Bengal) to medium (Pegasus) to small (Kraken?) and then Chris decided (personally I think this was a dumb choice) to add flight decks to regular capships (I am fine with "helicopter decks" for these ships like in the Carrack but the Idris should not have had such large hangars). IRL carriers also differ vastly in size :main-qimg-15fe2b4e9e83c4044701eb1c9dc8718d-c.jpg.79108c4b8ca566ad44f2cb2c57e4c078.jpg

Pegasus is as CIG Devs classed it escort carrier. Idris is as CR call it pocket carrier. Both are military units.

Drake aren't military branding. It is a civilian, that is for sure.

Agreed - Don't think Drake has any Military Contracts - even the Buccaneer doesn't have a military contact.

Hi all, I saw this site while browsing for info on Star Citizen. I just joined up to try to trade and am hoping to buy a Drake Dragonfly "Ride Together" 2-Pack with LTI (it contains a yellow and black version of the Dragonfly both with LTI). I am offering $78 USD inc PayPal fees.
I am verified on PayPal but a new member here. I would prefer to buy from someone with a trade history here and since I don't have a history am willing to speak on Discord or something to verify myself. I am an original Kickstarter Backer and looking to kit out a Cutlass Black for the PU. Please PM me whatever details I need from you and what you need from me if you have a pack you'll sell for the above price. Many thanks.

I am not at Citizencon  .... but it looks like since this Con is big on Drake that we will not only see the Drake Kraken and Anvil Valkyrie ...... but possibly the Drake Corsair?   See image below...

      Drake Vulture
      Drake Vulture Concept Art
                https://i.imgur.com/WmNDsLG.gifv

      From Concierge e-mail
      YOUR SHIP, YOUR SKY
There's an unmistakable grace to watching a sunrise on a remote desert moon, knowing that you're the only living soul for hundreds of thousands of kilometers...

From its inception, Drake has always supported the spirit of freedom. That willingness to push the limits and defy the odds, and the belief that anyone and everyone deserves a shot at reaching the stars. As we look to a bright new future for our company, and a return to those core values, we also look to you, the pilots - the real backbone of the aerospace industry.

We asked you what you wanted. And you know what we heard? The true voice of Drake. The hard-working men and women of the UEE. Folks who just want to make an honest living, and maybe make a difference in their own unique way.
We here at Drake proudly salute this spirit as we unveil the Vulture, a light industrial salvage vessel that lets you do you. Rip wrecks apart like a pro without the cumbersome hardware and multi-crew rigmarole of a larger ship. Answer to no one, cut out the middleman, and throw caution to the wind. In a Vulture, you can pick up the lucrative scraps of larger operations, run the regular trade circuits fast and light, or hit the open sky and carve out your own place in the great big empty.

There's a certain beauty to the silent serenity of a ship graveyard, a calm comfort to a wreck suspended in the most secluded corner of the void. Sure it can get lonesome out there, but sometimes all you need is you. Well, you and your Drake Vulture.
      Just DO YOU
Dare to throw caution to the wind and tame the open sky in the Vulture - YOUR Drake ship.

During Happy Hour the devs were mainly just brainstorming ideas for a new Drake ship to add to the lineup. Viewers were allowed to vote on the 'name' of 2 potential ships as well as a Viewer's Choice third entry (and name).
The viewer's choice from today's live stream was the Drake Kraken 'Scout Carrier'.
Final vote is up on the RSI forums and can be found here:
      >>  YOU Pick the Next Drake Ship  <<
      A. ENTRY-LEVEL DRAKE SALVAGE SHIP (CODE NAME: VULTURE)
A one man salvage starter ship, no drones but plenty of on-board storage to help with EVA salvage operations (space for cutters, charges etc) and space in a separate area to store/process the recovered salvage. Mostly designed for the player to EVA out and do the salvage, rather than sit inside and do it with tractor beams/lasers. Small enough to sneak into hostile areas unnoticed to recover fresh salvage.
      B. MULTI-CREW DRAKE EXPLORER (CODE NAME: CORSAIR)
Drake’s competitor to the Constellation, the rough and ready multi-crew explorer. Differs from the 600i by its crude basic construction and from the Constellation by its lower missile count, but with a third turret to make up for it. Able to transport a vehicle and cargo (think extended/up-scaled Cutlass rear area) faster and more nimble than the others, but like all Drake ships pretty paper thin.
      C. DRAKE SCOUT CARRIER (CODE NAME: KRAKEN)
Drake’s capital ship entry, space to park and store a few medium ships (up to Freelancer-sized) and transport them around the verse. Serves as a mobile truck stop in function with a small hub of stores (some less than legit) to help restock.
