600i vs Caterpillar for CCU to Herc

Recommended Posts

So I was at CIG LA when I first saw the 600i and I fell in love with the look, but the more that I think about the game and the roles of ships I have, I don't see a reason for having my 600i Explorer when I already have a Carrack. Yes, pretty and all that, but not really seeing why I should keep it over the others. As for the Cat. I never really liked it as a ship, and the thought of having a dropship replace it would be great.

Thoughts?

The Caterpillar is one of my ships I have vowed to CCU for a long time now (but still have it - and who knows the modules - once out may force me to keep it long term).

I have the 600i (Touring Module) - but I also have the 890j, Phoenix, and Carrack.

I think it is fine to have more than one exploration ship.... just like it is fine to have more than one fighter.... or multiple freighters for different needs.

Remember that the 600i is also modular and you can get a Touring Module to go along with your Exploration module either later or in-game.

I've always maintained that VIP missions will be the most profitable missions in the verse (since they have the highest barrier to entry with expensive ships, they are fraught with danger since VIPs often have kidnap or kill bounties on their head  = they are valuable, it requires skill to maintain a good VIP reputation, etc...)

==========================

But.... the biggest reason to keep the 600i over the Caterpillar is that the Caterpillar is a common ship........ and will be common and very easy to get in the verse (and at launch will only be worth one Caterpillar).

The 600i will be in EXTREME high demand (like the Phoenix and 890j) since it is a very rare ship and when the game starts the population of players will likely triple or quadruple ..... making the 600i worth at least two to three times its current value at game launch (so you can keep it and profit more off its sale if you find you aren't going to use it). :)

This.

Sure, the 600i is sleeker and will be in higher demand in the verse, but it's use cases will be extremely limited for anything other than VIP transport and Touring. The Caterpillar on the other hand has enough versatility to meet the needs of the both the crew and organization. It can be a cargo hauler, fleet support ship, troop transport, or hospital ship. It'll also presents less of a target since it's more common and multirole rather than a VIP yacht which is screaming to be a high priority target.

600i can also be an explorer as well +++ a person that has many ships in their fleet doesn't have to worry as much about one ship having multiple functions (at a lower performance rating)..... verse having multiple specialized ships that perform that specialized task at a higher performance rating than a Jack of All Trades (master of none) ship.

all good advice, I like multi level play:

for mining, I have the: Prospector and the Orion;

For exploration, I have the: Terrapin, 600i (to hire for the wealthy casual Explorer), Carrack;

For cargo, I have the: Avenger and the MAX;

For SCIENCE and Medical the: Endeavour (with the Cutlass Red and Argos)(The Domes, well, we'll see what CIG can do for those).

      I have a quick of question regarding Ship Upgrades. I just went through my hangar and saw a Ship upgrade that I got a while back. Since getting this Upgrade the RSI value of the target ship has gone up. If I were to apply the upgrade then melt the ship, would I get the store credits of the original ship or the up valued destination ship?

      EDIT: Changed the title from the question it was to this - to avoid giving anyone a heart attack

      It used to be, that when you applied a CCU you purchased for Store Credits to a giftable package or ship, it would remain giftable.

      But I just noticed, that a previously giftable package I had upgraded a while ago, is not giftable anymore...

      Anyone know if that mechanic got changed?

      hello citizen,
      the redeemer is not sold anymore.
      i hope it won t hurt too much your upgrade chains.

      i see it as a direct reaction to the $0 ccus redeemer -> merchantman that many people are sitting on.

      edit: the redeemer is now a vailable until july 10th.
