Hammerhead - Corvette Anti-fighter

small point, they were supposed to be finished and tested mid, sept last year...

Another point. most of the space is the corridors and this leaves very little space in the ships interior. It isn't a big ship like the starfarer or cater pillar.

The new ship line up is confusing to me. Why would the hammerhead be made before the Carrack and the 600i before the Merchantman? It is what it is I guess.

I believe they need to see how well it holds up in game before introducing the Polaris, Idris or even the Javelin. It would be a good test bed to see the indications of well the cap ships would hold up on the servers.

The Carrack & 600i are both under priority production due to them dictating the Anvil & Origin style respectively if I'm not mistaken. Aegis' style is already defined, or will be defined in the Idris. So it makes perfect sense considering they need the aforementioned ships to start work on other ships :)

Wow, that is really pretty inside.  It does have this 890J on one side of the hallway, and Reclaimer on the other vibe going on.

It’s the padding that does it;) sort of makes sense for a ship that’s (unofficially) made to ram other ships... which I cannot wait to see. I reckon once it’s ingame we’ll see a lot of Hammerheads ramming each other, like a bunch of stags during mating season  🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Hire expert gunner NPCs...... I am not digging up the reference but I KNOW CIG said during an ATV that eventually we would be able to hire/purchase NPCs to help man the large ships. And then our real life friends could agent smith into them when they came online. I put money aside to buy those crew members/NPCs. If that’s no longer on the table, it’s going to be difficult to effectively fly all these large ships they’ve been selling. Might as well make the ships solo-able like ED.

Thanks for the post. Let’s see how it all pans out.

I think the main idea is that NPC gunners will most likely be inferior and a liability compared to a human crew. Sure, they may be able to fill in gaps, but NPCs are really going to struggle when it comes to a few situations:

  • Ceasing fire if a target moves out of "effective range" while technically still being in range to conserve power / ballistic ammo.
  • Switching between say an incoming bomber (medium threat), a retreating fighter (low threat), or an incoming torpedo (immediate threat) on-the-fly when all three present themselves as viable targets.
  • Exiting the turrets to help with damage control or boarding as needed.
  • Calling out targets / incoming threats to the pilot, as well as keeping the other gunners informed.
  • Ability to focus target specific sections of an enemy ship, for example an engine, enemy gun turret, or bridge / cockpit.

The way I see it, a stock Hammerhead with a human crew will likely always drastically outperform even a top-kitted Hammerhead with the best (most expensive) AI crew available. While this might be fine for simple moderate-risk escort missions, I would not trust NPCs in a PvP setting.
