Build help Overall build upgrade questions

Alright, I know I have a different thread about SSD's, i'm sorry if this counts as spam, but this is a somewhat different topic, so I thought it deserved a different topic. My current computer is essentially 5 years old. I originally wanted to upgrade to a new processor, as I have an old 3rd Gen. i5-3570k 3.4ghz processor. However, obviously the problems that came up are that my motherboard is not compatible with modern intel processors, so I need to upgrade that too. This brought up ANOTHER problem. All of my RAM is currently DDR3, and all of the motherboards that I am seeing that are compatible with the most recent processors, require DDR4 RAM. So, below i've listed what I currently have, and what I think i'm going to upgrade to after doing a bit of researching. I believe everything is viable, but I absolutely welcome suggestions or comments. 16GB DDR3 RAM

Current motherboard:
Asrock Z77 Extreme 6 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157295

Thought for new motherboard:
GIGABYTE G1 Gaming GA-Z170X-Gaming 7 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128835&ignorebbr=1

New Processor:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0136JONG8/ref=psdc_229189_t3_B012M8LXQW?th=1 - Decided on 3.4 since it is cheaper, and apparently less likely to overheat without water cooling

Current RAM:
4 4GB G.Skill Ripjaw DDR3 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231314

Thought for new RAM:

Also, while this isn't so much of a hardware question, I was curious about cases. I currently have a Rosewill Challenger Mid-Tower http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147153 - it is a decent case, but I now have a Geforce 980ti, and am looking to go into SSD's (this case was not designed for 2.5" compatibility). Would anyone suggest anything for a new case, or to keep the one that I have? I know that the new motherboard will fit in the space, but it is pretty tight with the GPU that I have.
I was looking at either the ThermalTake MK-1 > http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133191&ignorebbr=1
Or the COOLER MASTER HAF932 or HAFX (still not entirely sure what the differences are between them, aside from slight size difference, and side panel.

I really appreciate any input. I know that i've been harassing you all a bit with requests for input with parts and such, but I don't want to build the wrong build, as this will be the first time I do any sort of upgrade to my PC. I built the original, but it has been 5 years, so I am far from a pro, and i've been out of the loop for awhile.

There are so many opinions on hardware it's really not even funny.

My first advice would be find someone you trust and deal with that person and maybe one other. Other wise you will just get run in circles and end buying whatever in the end. Come talk to us in Team Speak, it would likely be easier to communicate ideas.

Outside of that the only thing I would suggest is to use https://pcpartpicker.com/ as it will quickly show you incompatibilities, if any, with your chosen hardware.

Find a Motherboard in your price range with the features you want and start there. Use the manufactures website to verify compatibility with the RAM you choose.

Good luck and remember, take your time. If you get in too big of a hurry you'll end up in regret.

@JakeStoanes i just did a build for my dad this weekend. NewEgg had the 6700k on sale for $299, shows currently sold out but might watch or hit them up to see if they are going to have some in stock soon, that would be same price as the 6700 you found  but bump you up to 4 ghz  before boost.

Also used the gigabyte GA Z170N mobo on his, the mini itx board but we were doing a smaller corsair case. But the gigabyte Z boards are nice.

Also I have two older builds I used the HAF 932 case, its a big case but solid and good air flow.

Have to share some pics of your build once you get it together! Good luck!

Haha thanks @BryGen, I was considering the 4.0 ghz, but from what i'm reading it gets hot really quickly, and i'm trying not to need liquid cooling. I was looking at the corsair liquid cooling for the processor, but I am still really hesitant to put anything liquid into my PC, especially since I can't exactly afford to buy new stuff all the time. xD

My i5 4670K runs at 4GHz on an Intel stock cooler. I doubt a 6700K gets 'hot' at 4GHz, unless you live in a desert with no air conditioning.

If you "build" your rig using PCPartPicker.com, you'll be shown the best purchase price and from who.

Check here for cooling solutions:

Thanks! I really appreciate it. I ended up getting the 4.0ghz, a HAF932, and the Gigabyte MOBO. I just realized though that the processor doesn't come with a stock cooling fan to last me. I had looked at the EVO 212 but that thing is absolutely massive and apparently super heavy. I am considering watercooling but it makes me nervous, so I am trying to get ideas from other people what they use for CPU cooling.

Do you use anything in particular?

@JakeStoanes Don't be scared, like I was telling you earlier, everyone of the 5 pc's in my house have a closed loop all in one cooling solution. I actually have an older X58 build that still has it's original AIO cooler. Now that's about 7 years old and still works like a champ with ZERO issues (NO LEAKS!). Currently in the AIO market the corsair coolers are by far the most popular, in fact I have 3. Less pressure on the motherboard cpu socket and an overall quieter performance.

Yeah i've been shopping around a lot. It is a difficult decision to make, lol. I have everything else on the way, I wonder if I can take my old stock CPU fan for now, i'm not entirely sure if it will work because it's from a 3rd generation i5.

I am really confident in the Corsair closed loop cooling systems for performance and robustness.

Really like the H60 for single fan radiator and the H100i is good too!

Just ran a H5 SF in that micro build, very interesting low profile design, what will they come up with next!
