Star Citizen Roadmap & Releases Now - 2017

Great video, entertaining to watch... Though we should take the road maps with a grain of salt. Speaking of which, every road map we've seen, have received maybe 1/4 of the promised goals within that roadmap. This isn't CIG's fault completely. Things change with tech, companies can't deliver, trying to implement certain things and then the entire coding gets messed up. So many variables.

You can, in a way, look at each road map as a stretch towards perfection. If everything goes absolutely perfect in every way, we can see those happening on time. I like to believe they set the bar so high, even if its unobtainable, so that CIG has something to strive towards and work hard for, so the end product is even better than what they and ourselves, the backers, imagined.

Of course all that could just be a fart in the wind and 3.0 turns into another Star Marine year delay... We'll never know until they announce a patch :)

Keep your mind open, and don't expect much. That's how you stay surprised at the amount of work put into each update. Low standards equal rewarding outcomes

Exploration will actually take the most work. Finding the signal in the noise, making that search worthwhile, etc. Cargo, is simple. There are already many trading games. Fueling is the same thing, and mining only adds local searches and voxel deformation.

But how do you make the endless search rewarding and fruitful?

So the ships not mentioned for release during 3.1-4.0 are:

Genesis
Endeavor
Redeemer
Buccaneer
Polaris (duh ^_^ )

As well as any potentially upcoming concept sales ofcourse (like the possible Prowler, Aegis Eclipse, Origin 600 etc.)

For me it kinda sucks that the Redeemer wasn't mentioned at all. :(

And the Carrack is almost last in line. Oh well.

Maybe that means she's getting an update though. Maybe even a size increase? :D

Which is surprising as CIG has said a few times that the Carrack is next after the Caterpillar. Its almost guaranteed that it will get bigger though.

The Freelancer variants were missed from this roadmap too.....I want my MIS!

Genesis is meant to seat over a hundred passengers from point A to point B (which could be in a different star system altogether). That'd require netcode be perfected to allow mass transit to be viable without the server tanking to 4 frames a second because everyone hopped into one local grid.

Redeemer is being covered by the Vanguard Hoplite until it gets reworked. We'll probably see it get a little bigger, shorter, sleeker, the living quarters cut down to a fraction of the size and the number of jump seats increased to allow for larger landing parties. Maybe even widened out a bit to allow it to deploy rovers.

Buccaneer didn't seem important enough since combat is not a priority for the 3.X updates.

Polaris is a way's out since it's a ship requiring the capital pipeline be in full swing. In which case, we can expect to see head or tails of larger craft like the Hull E, Pegasus, etc.

The Endeavor seems to be what all the systems leading up to 4.0 are converging toward. I wouldn't be surprised if we got a glimpse of it at CitizenCon 2017 or in one the ATVs before or after. Within two updates we have all the functions the Endeavor serves as well as the teams now experienced with making large ships. It'd also be the nice big cherry on top for 4.0: the largest civilian ship to date with the most complex systems for it.

Slight correction to your theorycrafting :P

the Genesis-class includes support for forty passengers and eight crew

40 passengers is still quite a bit though ;)
