Time to Re-Evaluate your Ships (Pledge) - Earning Big ships In PU (new from CR)

@Fizzlefuse i love the idea of earning the ship of your dreams in game, the hard work, the adventures that got you to that point make it more than just a purchase... its the reward!  For myself however, i lack the time to grind and appreciate CIG letting me buy in to help the game evolve by getting these larger ships sooner than i would otherwise be able to get them in game.

I am sure there will be some players, with 40+ hours a week, who will have an idris in no time, but that's not me. My plan is to stick with the larger ships for industry and trade plus combat. With the recent comments from CIG regarding purchasable crews for large ships, i'm encouraged that i'll be able to hire a crew to man several of my Hull C, who i will then assign trade tasks via my tablet while i work. If escorts are required i'll hire either NPC's or more likely post the mission with Imperium. I hope to have my 4 Hull C's and 4 Gemini working as much as possible via this system.

You might ask then, "what am i working towards if i already have some of the biggest ships", well my answer would be; i want to be able to generate the kind of funds that will effect change in an environment through economic interaction. I guess i'm thinking big and would like to see if a player could establish some kind of economic node and if so, how would that node affect the local economy? eg) will the people dress differently, will other businesses moving into the area, will crime increase/decrease, will the buildings start the evolve? I want have a ringside seat and be part of the change, whatever that change maybe, time will tell.

I can understand getting a bigger ship if you are unable to actually earn one in-game within a reasonable period of time.
In the end it's all about getting the most enjoyment out of the game and what that might be is different for everyone.

I'm curious to see how the NPC crew system will actually work.
I might have missed some information somewhere but I doubt we will be able to use NPCs to take one of the ships and go out and make money while we're not there with them. It seems to fly against the stance they're taking against mechanics that allow you to initiate a task and then forget; make a sandwich, watch tv, read a book, while your computer does all the work... like mining in EVE.

I can see how it would be a boon if you have limited time but I think that would leave it too open for gold farmers or whatnot to just using that to grind coin.

Well I for one have always been concerned about the upkeep cost to the larger ships, and that have been one thing that has prevented me from getting a lot of big ships. I have a few now but I think this  will impact on my decision on whatever I should buy more large ships. I think people should have known that CR and crew will devise ways for not to have the entire horde of big ships running around the 'verse in a matter of weeks! We should concentration on having a rock solid financial foundation before one person can run a big ship on a regular basics.

OK, call me cynical, but my guess is that next ships they will launch will be high cost ships.

Ok your cynical!!! [emoji3]

But your likely right as i firmly believe the corvette will be tge next ship to be released at citizencon.

Time will tell.

I've got 150$ for all my ships and my pledge package grand total. Entirely unsure of what I want to end up with- I had that 30$ package but melted it stupidly, so the game costs me 60$ now. That leaves me with enough for a gladius, though I have a buccaneer ready to unmelt and some avenger --> reliant coupons to save a few $ for my final decision. That's enough for a prospector, but too little for any solid military craft. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll know until the Beta what we should all be ending up with. I have a few CCUs between the freelancer and a lot of same-priced ships.

CIG has been raising the pledge prices/ship size ratio steadily. 50$ for the ursa rover and 200$ for the terrapin, which struck me as similar to the prospector's role but for exploration. I think that grey market might be the way to go, getting things from people's unmelts.

You could use the October 1st (I think?) buy back token to get the $30 package back and melt the $60 one, gaining $30 credit.  If you can unmelt it.

Not eligible for unmelt, and CS doesn't do unmelts. I might try and pick one up from the grey market because paying 40$ for the 30$ pack still saves money, otherwise I'll just CCU from the package to the ship I want and skip LTI

@Karmaslap, i dont think you really need to worry about such things. Imperium will have a shit ton of extra ships available for members to utilize in an effort to mutually benefit both pilot (you) and owner (imperium or other member). Just pick up the ship you can afford and see yourself using most often in solo gameplay and let imperium provide the ship for your advancement to the next level.

OK, so this is a very important video to note and falls in line with what i have always believed to be true about pricing progression in the game. it's the main reason (but not the only one) why i've been melting all my smaller (less expensive ships in game) in favor of the larger more costly ships.

Look, if i can buy a hornet in game for say 165,000uec (small ship cost ratio (UEC:$$) 1000:1) vs a connie (Medium ship cost (UEC:$$) 10,000:1) or a Reclaimer (large ship cost (UEC:$$) 100,000:1) then i'll keep the reclaimer and if i dont like the game play i'll sell it in game for 35 mil UEC and utilize those funds elsewhere. Additionally it would take me forever to earn enough UEC to purchase a large ship in game if CIG decides to alter the cost ratios based on the size/utility of the item being sold eg) hand weapon, rover, small Space Ship, med SS, large SS, special SS, military SS, etc

Disclaimer: nothing mentioned above is fact based on published comments from CIG or its staff and is only the belief of the person posting it... even if its all true and you'll see...hahaha ;)

You don't get the increased value back if you melt a ship that got a price bump.  If I melt my standard Starfarer for example, I'll get $175 for it not $300.

This is why the CCUs are so important! :0

Hi Gal

Im in same boat, so how to I gte around that, to get the increased value of my original Starfarer ?

I know you said CCU, but im sorta lost

Thank you

JM

Hi Lady TK, let me help you, if you have an original starfarer with a melt value of 175 and its current price is at 300, you already have that increase. What Gal was saying is its equity on paper which is liquidatable to cash...it really only helps u if you want to upgrade that ship to something with a higher value such as a carrack at 350. So pre price increase if u wanted to ccu your starfarer to a carrack would cost you an additional 175 but now that the starfarer is valued at 300 your ccu cost is only $50, effectively giving u a $125 discount or bump...

I am glad I anticipated this. My smallest ship is my Phoenix (for the same reasons as @VoA mentioned). I also own a Gemini, which I don't like but which I assume will be able to make me money (and I have a few CCU's waiting if it turns out fuel operations aren't cash cows). My biggest ship is my BMM which I like the most and which I hope CIG does not screw up. I really hope it will be a fast trader that will feature heavy shields and armour and enough armaments to discourage pirates from trying to mess with it (primarily though I hope it relies on speed and shields for it's defense).

I don't have any fighters or small ships because I assume I can easily buy them in game after doing VIP or Fuel missions for a week. By that time we should also know which fighters are the most useful and I can pick one which is optimal for my use (until the next round of balancing probably ;)).

Sorry I didn't respond in time, not been following SC much these last couple months until 3.0 comes out.  But Astro already covered it. ^^

I turned my standard SF & Gemini into the Orion & Endeavor, then turned a Caterpillar into a normal SF again after the $50 bump they got.  Which essentially equates to a free BMM.

Jump Point: Reselling ships

renderTimingPixel.pngPosted by

In the newest Jump Point there's a piece about the economy.

Mostly as you'd expect/know.

The price of items (like ships and components) depends on the state of the universe:

  • what materials are common/rare,

  • what factories have ample workers or a shortage,

  • what the logistics situation is (is there a lot of cargo hauling required to get the materials, or to get the final product to its place of sale) and

  • what supply/demand there is.

But what I found really interesting and exciting is the following question and answer:

Jump Point: Will there be a variable market for used ships?

Jake Muehle: This is something that Chris definitely wants. A common design mechanic in games is to see account-bound items and equipment that are quite inflexible in terms of being able to resell and leverage economically. The goal for Star Citizen is to get rid of the artificial limitations of other games and have an economy where you can buy, sell, trade, steal, or even lose the things that you own.

And to conclude one more quote which I was very happy about: Chris never settles for less and always demands complete logical consistency with any of the systems presented to him.

Same here fizzle,

we knew this stuff  before. That the cost will be 10x or higher  for LG, and cap  ships.

And having  a few ships large, cap  early now.

Will reduce  the grind. And allow for higher dinamatic  play.  Add in npc crew.

Too helpoffset  the  maning requirements.

So I bought a freelancer pledge years back, it comes with lifetime insurance, my freelancer, squad 42, a mixture of physical goodies and all that jazz.  Could i actually upgrade my freelancer from that pledge into another freelancer variant or even another ship altogether without losing the insurance and my physical goodies?
