I know there are many among us who do NOT want or like windows 10 because of the invasive nature of the OS. Truth be told, Windows 10 is a great OS - better memory management for one thing.

Sooooo, Load it up and kill anything you don't want or think you don't want. Below are some links to vids, articles, etc that can help put MS in its place and you with a better running rig

there's loads of tips

some of these tips might be old because these were made after the windows 10 rollout. I believe some of them have been fixed with updates.

1 tip that I would give: to make sure you don't get ANY issues with hardware and software compatability, do a complete reinstall of windows, instead of an update from 8.1. But register your windows license by linking it to your microsoft account first before you do that. After the 8.1 to 10 update I actually had little problems for a while, but eventually bumped into an issue with class-compliant usb drivers that didn't work, and couldn't get my usb device to work in any way. Only a wipe fixed it.

But all in all. Windows 10 is definitely worth it. It's a really stable, fast operating system, all software I had still work. It's very nice and user friendly.

Thanks for posting this thread. I'm going to try some of the things in the video I didn't know about. Maybe it will give me a little bit of a push for performance.

(I still keep to my Ubuntu and Win7 install though)

I don't know much about performance, but I did most of the stuff mentioned in those guides just to clean up my OS. I prefer not to have a hundred apps and icons I will never use when I will install more than enough junk by myself.

I also use this app for good measure:

[USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!] https://github.com/10se1ucgo/DisableWinTracking [USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!]

After doing all that and installing my favorite apps and stuff I must admit that I do enjoy Win10, much more than Win8 (really if you are on Win8\8.1 just upgrade) and on par with Win7. As long as I can freely tweak the OS and remove the crap I don't want from it, then I am happy.

Although I also dual boot with Manjaro Linux and only boot up on Win10 for gaming.
