Operation Pitchfork Joint Operations

Greetings from the Operation Pitchfork community! I'm here to let everyone know about a new repeating weekend event we're organizing. Twice a month we're planning on holding Joint Operation events on Saturdays where we get people from around the Star Citizen community together for organized events around Port Oliser. For right now, they're set to start at 1200 EST.

We had our first event on the 26th of March, and a lot of people enjoyed it, though it was a bit of a hot mess because of a patch dropping the night before. Since the one on the 9th is only our second one, it's still pretty rough around the edges, but we're hoping as more and more people get involved, it becomes a smoother and more defined event. The next event after the 9th will be on the 23rd of April, so if you can't make it this weekend but you want to participate, don't worry!

And as always, because of the nature of OPPF, always feel free to help participate in the planning. If you think you have an idea or suggestion on how this can be organized better, don't hesitate to speak up. OPPF evolves and improves because of our community's open dialogue. Our Discord channel is a good location to join in on the conversation.

Ah, thanks, @Rellim. I appreciate that. I wasn't sure what time zone is the common one around here. We're hoping as the event gets larger, we can have three time slots open for people in different time zones. Right now we're just working with the afternoon on the East Coast since that makes it a Saturday night in Europe and morning on the West Coast. If the world was flat this would be so much easier.

We don't really have a stop time for the event right now so we'll be going for most of the night as well. Since OPPF community is so flexible and international, we tend to have people showing up over the course of any activities we do and we always do our best to make sure we can accommodate as many people as is effectively possible.

That's me at the 2min mark :)
Sweeping Kareah with DigiTac and Marduk11 was a lot of fun.
Really good communication and coordination.

At the 5:30min you see me get glitched through the floor when I stood over Digitac's dead body beside the column.

Yeah, I saw you guys in the General chat when I got on setting everything up. I just kept having trouble all night whenever I was on the station, kept falling through floors. Was happening to me on the ships as well. I think it's probably coming from my side though, since my PC is 6 years old. It definitely looked fun in the recording though! We'll have try more Kareah style events. That seemed to be a success.

If anyone else has any recordings of the event they'd like to share, let me know and I'll share it across the OPPF network.

If you want, we might have enough imperium people to be the opposing force for fighter or FPS stuff.

That sounds pretty exciting. We had some an impromtue fight with another organized group the first time we did one of these events on the 26th of March, and that turned out to be great fun. I think as we get more momentum with these Joint Ops events we'll have more organized OPFORs to practice against. We can test some of this out before the next Joint Ops event, if you have people in trying it out. We often do daily patrols around Port Oliser.

We actually had someone wish that imperium did stuff like in the OPPF and LF video.  Last time, we had 3 or 4 imperium guys join.  We can switch over to our TS and be the attackers or defenders for various games.  I think if we are half a server that it is unlikely someone will want to attack us. I would just say try it out at the next event.  I will be out of town that day though.

It would be cool to have organized teams play take the security checkpoint. Have both the space fight outside and the intense firefight inside. I haven't gotten to play much so I haven't tried out the new weapons. I don't think the sniper would be very useful but I would love to here how the shotgun and laser rifle are? Any opinions?

One of the options for the Joint Ops days is to do raids on the security post by showing up with a ship full of boarders that has to make it to a landing zone. So you have to decide how many Marines you want, and how many escorts you want for your drop ship, while the defenders of the station have to decide how many Marines they want, verse how many ships they want flying patrol. I think it'd mostly end up on foot, but it'd be fun to have it set up for the drop ship to have to fight its way to a LZ.

We need some more shakedown runs of the task to get it better organized, so that means we need people for the daily Patrols we do.

That sounds fun! Yeah, I think defenders have a better chance inside as all of the attackers could show up in hornets with half of them landing to fight on the ground. However, if they choose to go in a single ship, having two hornets outside would help.

Have you guys tried EVAing into the station. The blackness of space should make you nearly invisible. Have a freelancer quantum in and immediately jump out and quantum away or fake flying towards the station. Then the marines slowly thrust in, hopefully avoiding detection.\

I have been thinking about this since 2.0. Would it work?

Avenger is the perfect Drop-ship.

I propose two mission zones:
1. Kareah where there is Gravity. King of the Hill
2. Covalex where there is no Gravity & there is a mission.

A simple mission could be for OPPF to complete the Covalex ICC Mission, and for OpForce to prevent them.

That's why I really like Covalex. It's got a mission built into it, so everyone knows if you made it to all of the right spots or not. The only problem is there is just one entry point. Kind of makes battles predictable to a certain degree. Though I guess being able to fill a room with spaceship guns first adds a fun element.

I agree with this. Yela lets players get guns, so puppy guarding the airlocks is a non-issue. We could limit encounters to fps so it doesn't turn into a dogfight around the station as well.

Too bad 2.4 isn't out, or we could have one side dress as pirates and the other as marines easily to determine sides.

And @Cincinnatusafter seeing the video I posted in the military questions thread about it. Looked awesome, want Imperium to get that stuff in.

@Benjamin the Roguewith a little planning what you described would be great. Choosing how many guys on fps vs how many defending ships to bring. I think the problem would be that everyone on the attacking side would show up in a fighter, then, and the defenders would have to choose to focus on one kr the other or lose at both. Might be better to just plan it to all be fps encounters to avoid this. You should post on reddit a day before the event informing people of it, so we might pick up more players.

Ah, yeah, I hate Reddit so I never think about it. I really have to get better at that.

As for the specific Raid operation, we could make it a rule that one of the attacking ships have to be a transport, and everyone who is in a fighter has to stay in their crafts. So you can't land a fighter and engage in FPS. You show up in your assigned roles and stick with it. So that way you're going to be a lot more cautious about your balance with potentially only 8 people.

We could also have people killed defending the station spawn back at Port Olisar, and after a time, they can warp back to the location to fight, either in a transport or in a fighter.

@Benjamin the Rogue As long as it would be fluid enough that if one side banked too heavily on one method they could quickly reset, It'd work.

you could do two different games: the planned 8v8 and also a 'king of the hill' where you can jump back into the fight as you please.

Reddit is a better format for discussion and seems like a better group than the forums, though without discussing that opinion it is a good place to post events open to the community. Everyone knows Operation Pitchfork and I'm sure people would sign up, especially if Imperium and anynither orgs were participating semi officially.

Yeah, as I said, it's a personal bias against Reddit. I'll work on getting over that and getting more posts there though. King of the Hill might be a right proper clusterfuck to do, with people streaming in after being killed to duke it out more. That'd be pretty fun. We can have it as an entirely separate mode than the organized strike-in-groups style raids.

One thing I'm really looking forward to is the Starfarer, just because we will for the first time have a ship we can actually board. Defending the different stations like the engine room, the cockpit, and engineering will be really interesting. We may have to wait a little longer though before we have the components up and running that allow you to take control of a ship.

I just updated another person who signed up to be a Streamer, Fluffy_Pink_Bunny. If anyone else is planning on streaming or recording video, let me know and I'll add you to the list for the next event and advertise you with everyone else.
