Still think that is the most stupid part having the "radar" on the botton. Fine for a ship in space, but anything that lands ...

It's a large Ground Penetrating Radar, it wouldn't be effective anywhere else.  Trust in your landing gears and all will be profitable.

Assuming from the "radar" up and down position wouldn't be effective at all on the directed ground on which it landed on. And whether it's on top or bottom it wouldn't have any problem with passing through the ship on the vertical, but it would have to literal turn the "radar" 90 degree. Either way it's a cinematic over realistic either way as CR has known in his passed games.

Unless you work with radars, I don't think you should presume what is cinematic or realistic when it comes to them.

The problem with passing upward through the ship is that radars are specialized.  Either it is a ground penetrating radar or it is not.   GPRs are designed to penetrate rock and surface materials to detect anomalies and underground structures.  They have very limited range.  This is because the use (comparatively low energy) UHF and VHF to achieve the effect of imaging underground.  The materials you penetrate due to their composition, density and basic makeup are radar absorbent.

Juxtaposed to this are what I'll term aerospace radars.  These are designed to detect, track and identify fast moving objects (cough, spaceships, cough) at great range.  The beams do not penetrate any objects they encounter, such as a detected ship, instead they bounce off.  The bounced radio frequency returns are then translated into a format suited for their purpose.  Radars used to just give you an analog display-but that is complex and difficult and overall not fun for gameplay.  In a GPR, you'll see a representation of the ground immediately underneath.  For an aerospace radar, its common to have an abstracted user interface that interprets the return graphically-dots moving about a scaled screen.

Sure, 900 years in the future we can speculate that radars could do one or both things-in different modes.  But whats the point?  It doesn't suit any desired gameplay mechanics they want for the ship.  The ship is almost guaranteed to have a separate decent aerospace radar on it already.  Radars are basic features on all craft!.  Prospector is not built as a tracking or combat ship, it has no need of super specialized scanners for detecting fighters.  Having a GPR is what makes this ship, and likely the Orion, unique and best suited for the role of mini-mining.

One final note, and don't mistake, this criticism applies to all of the ships, especially the Hornet Tracker.  High-powered radars are not human friendly.  Large amounts of radio frequency radiation directed into your body is not healthy.  All ship radars that we know of, except the GPR on the Prospector, radiate through the pilot and produce a 3D 360 degree radar picture of the space around a ship.  This isn't particularly safe.  There is no obvious dead zone, which implies that the pilot or cockpit are not properly shielded from either the main beams or sidelobe radiation-meaning you get radiated at all times, even if the radar is not directly pointed at you.  Why is this bad?  One of the side effects of overexposure is temporary sterility-how can you properly enjoy the verse then?

I used "radar" as a generic term, hence the " " markers at either end :). Ground penetrating is used quite widely depending on its a small "wheel barrow" or a plane looking for ore types. However neither of them require a "dish" or blow shaped object on the external side of the place or the small little trolley. However Cinematic is the feel which SC has, not realism. SC will have the better looking (hopefully) while the realism will make it do with logic.

One thing you have no free will over getting in to a hornet (climbing up the ladder) :D

Now if that's what they want to go with...ooowelllll. it a not like reallife...

just a Sim if they add that feature add in 6 months. Is radar poisoning like  radiation  poisoning. ..

If ya worried about the radar ya can sit in my shielded ore processor area..

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, Nooooooooo!

Why do I fall in love with every ship as it walks out the ship pipeline?

I hope in the final game, your bed is customizable.  While many love it that way, I want mine made nice.

Every MISC ship needs that blanket. Heck, they need to sell that blenket from the store. I'd buy it.

I'm right there with you, man. I love the large open canopy, will allow for a spectacular view of space... which has me really questioning why the freelancer's windows ares so small... we need a better view of space!:p

I feel that a large range of vision is a must. I am not playing this game to be truck driver simulator 2947 but for it to be an epic game, seeing the sights of the universe, no matter the profession. (it is what makes me never want a freelancer, I'll take a cutlass any day, even though I will be a hauler/miner). I hope they make the mining mini-game fun and interactive.... and very profitable. Being a claim jumper should be great!

I didn't post screen shots, I posted an entire video (from which many of those screen shots were taken)... that was different enough that I felt it deserved it's own post.

I think I'll have a loaner for my Orion, though I do continue considering getting one.

I was not going to get one. Until I saw the planets. Now I can see all of the beautiful worlds and mine at the same time! (also why I like the canopy)

      Hi everyone /
I think it's about time that I share my collection of albums that I use for The Base chat that I've had for a while now
I only have ships/vehicles that are either from lore, concept, development or being re-worked, not for any that are flyable/finished and I constantly add more to the albums. Enjoy.

      Greetings Citizens,
I've really stepped in it this time, I love this account that I have built, but I dipped into my savings to do it. Then, of course, now being unemployed I can't make the rent, which is due in two weeks. So seeing as it's sell this account or end up on the streets, so it seems like a simple choice. I've picked up all my ships from grey market trades, as to get the LTIs, so I can't sell off single ships, so the entire account has to go.
      Ships:
      Anvil Carrack
      Anvil Terrapin
      Freelancer Max (Upgraded from Dragonfly)
Super Hornet (Upgraded from Hornet Wildfire)
      MISC Prospector
The UEE Explorer Package also includes both games Squadron 42 and Star Citizen.
The total melt value for the account is $920, yours for $550. I'm PayPal Verified.
