Ben keeps teasing us with info on the latest Wave 5 Concepts Ships and his latest reveal was about the MISC Small Mining Ship. Note that the word "Small" in its description really just means that it is "smaller" than the Orion. The MISC mining ship would likely be "Bigger" than the Aegis Terrapin (a possible Starter Ship that didn't get the community votes). The MISC Mining ship would likely be a "Medium Size Industrial Ship" since Ben has mentioned they would have an intermediate set of ships that allow people to transition into the larger Industrial Ships. If you look at this image below you can see we are missing ships of the "medium" size and have plenty of "small" and "large" ones.

ZLrYhp3.jpg

It could also mean though that CIG could eventually make various sizes of "Mining Ships" beyond the MISC and the Orion === this could be "Tiny" = Argo (with Mining Module)... "Small" = Aegis Terrapin...... "Medium" = MISC Mining Ship...... "Large" Orion...... but all we can say for certain is the MISC and Orion mining ships.

For More details on this "Evolution" and various CIG interviews see --->> WAVE 5 - Confirmed Concept Ships (new from BEN) + New Ideas + Idea Ship List [POLL] [1,242+VOTES]

Below are the new videos with Ben talking about the new MISC Mining Ship....

Published on Mar 24, 2016
This episode Ben talks about the next Concept Ship...

24:01 Can you give the prices of concept ship sales one week before the sale like you did in the past?

24:31 What company makes the next concept ship?

++++++++++

11:20
- [Small mining ship] It's coming along very well and you'll see it in the not too distant future, currently in concept phase.

- likely to be the next ship for the concept sale, but not confirmed

&&&&&&&

The MISC Mining Ship will likely be used to Mine on Planets and Moons - in addition to Asteroids = where the Orion is really only designed to Mine Asteroids (mainly due to its size and design). Since "size" also determines its ability to Refine Ore (since this process requires a great deal of equipment) = ONLY the Orion will have a built-in Ore Refining Option.

For reference: Star Citizen Careers: Mining
The Orion has a Max Crew of 6 so it is likely that the MISC Mining Ship will likely not have One to Three of these positions (1-3):
MINING SPECIALISTS (from above link)
1) Pilot = Both MISC Mining Ship and Orion will very likely have this position
2) Scan operator = Both MISC Mining Ship and Orion will likely have this position
3) Beam operator = Both MISC Mining Ship and Orion will likely have this position with #4 below rolled into position 3 for the MISC mining ship.
4) Exothermic Reaction Detector/ Laser Seismometer /Analytical Materials Processor = operator = ONLY the Orion will likely have this position
5) Cargo operator = ONLY the Orion will likely have this position - since this has to do with storing refined ore.
6) Refinery operator = ONLY the Orion will likely have this position - since ONLY the Orion can refine ore.

==============

NOTE The Concept Sale Price Poll (ever since the Herald Concept) - is intended to to communicate to CIG what the community expects of the new Concept Ship based on what we currently know. CIG welcomes and encourages community input and besides..... Polls are FUN :) = The price will likely be above a Starter Ship price and Below the Orion price of $325.

Post your ideas of how you think the MISC Mining Ship might look like or function + post how many crew do you think it will have (Max Crew for ship efficiency)

I think it should be in-between the freelancer and Retaliator in size.

Secondly, I am not sure if it will use a mining laser. A drill might be more effective on a smaller ship.

I think MISC Mining Ship will have the size of Starfarer/Hull C.
I think the price will be $ 200-250 if the Orion does not rise in price.
A starter mining ship would also be possible, but I think is ineffective.
It could then have the size and price of Reliant, or between Reliant and Freelancer.
A good compromise with size, price and function (outer container) could be the Hull-B.
I would imagine that there are different sizes and prices, as in the Hull-series.

For a mid-size mining ship I'd like to see something like a spaceified version of this

 heavy_lift_helicopter_by_crosscountry88.

Sufficient internal volume to house crew and scanners, with the rest a modular containment frame that you could equip as your mining task required.  Say one slot being a detachable ore bunker, the other your piloted mining truck(for moon mining) or a parasite mining/utility skiff for asteroid mining.  Like that idea because it would offer flexibility and the ability to tailor the craft to maximize performance for specific tasks/challenges.  If operating in tandem with an Orion you might forego the ore bunker in favor of two parasite mining ships, etc.

A smaller "mining" ship would essentially be a prospecting ship with a crew of 2. Like in the Gold rush days of the US. Small enough to go and see what's available and bring back enough raw material to make it financially sensible. Maybe give it 2-3 externally mounted ore bins (the size of the long ones you sling under an aurora) with something the size of the Warden escape pod for performing other related activities.

will i be mining at some point? yes, but the kind of mining ship i want is a strip miner where if i see a rock in space i'm like 'there is a tasty rock over there! i'm eat'n it!' cause i dont really want to pick and chose which minerials i want

so yeah i want a mining ship the size of the bengal, i'm sure they will exist at some point

though i'm sure i'll get this in game, as for the poll there is the price i want it to be at what i think it will be at which is over 200$

i want a ship bigger than the orion, plus too expensive for how much i'm going to use it for, also i will get it ingame as well as i want one of every ship ingame

who knows, they may make it so i can just have a bunch of mining drones and i'll just take a couple of hull E's or something bigger and just detach a mining modual at the site and just ferry the ore back to wherever i'm going... now that makes me wonder, will we be able to buy ore refinarys for our hangar(s)?

Not if they can make it after we get in-game.

I always am baffled that the largest ships in these games are military.

Look at the real world. By far the largest ships are transports. Why cannot industrial ships be the largest in game?

Here comes the 5km long Hull Z for the affordable price of 15000 USD.

This is, well SHOULD, be my last ship to purchase! The mini miner!

Looks very promising! Now remains: how much will refining ore/minerals actually be more beneficial compared to unrefined selling.
I guess a refined material could be directly delivered to a Crucible so they could use it directly for repairing.

I doubt that the orion can refine the materials so that they can be immediately used on ships. My guess is that the refining mechanic would remove all of the excess rock in the mined ore, so one is only bringing home ore and not hauling slag across a system or two.

What remains to be seen is:

a) How profitable will mining really be? Especially in this little guy.

B) How long will I need to play to make a good chunk of credits. (I can rarely play without interruptions for more than 90 minutes.

RTV today with CR - INN notes

11:21
- [Name for the small mining ship?] There is a name, but it won't be shared yet.

11:19- The Mining ship is another MISC

11:19- [What's the next concept sale?] It is the small mining ship.

11:19
- [Orion?] In a holding pattern. Concept work is done, waiting for technical assets to free up. They're thinking about it a lot cause they're working on a smaller mining ship. The Orion's the pinnacle, they're working on the first ship in the mining process.

Having a small mining vessel makes sense. The Orion is likely going to be a really expensive ship in-game.
I think the MISC Prospector is a solid name, and I'm a MISC fanboy now :D

A smaller ship would be a cheaper way for players to find out if they even like the career or not without spending too much money.
Imagine saving up a ton of money to buy an Orion only to find out you don't like mining at all, after the fact. It would make me sad.

Moved to MISC

I personally can't wait for this ship.  Love the mining.  It will be interesting to see how much of the mechanic they leave out since the Orion is a soup to nuts look at mining. Scanning / locating, retrieval bulk ore, crushing, smelting / refinement.  Which parts do they let go for a small ship? If it can't dispose of some of the bulk the Prospector won't have too much use so I figure that's at least part of it.

Size? 30m?  Can't see less being functional.

MISC Prospector mining surface of planetoids and loading up cargo containers on ships like the Hull.... going to be awesome! Be even cooler if it could fit on a cargo pod of a Hull-E. Imagine taking out a Hull E with like 10 Prospectors and going to a planetoid.  Soon you would be like  :stormtrooper:

I wasn't expecting the smaller mining ship to perform planet-based mining. I assumed it would perform space mining, like the Orion, just on a smaller scale. I knew that CIG was planning on doing planet-side mining, because there've been numerous references to resource rich planets and mining, but I assumed it involved offloading a drilling rig from a ship doing it that way, rather than the mining rig being part of the ship itself. I wonder if CIG intends to create permanent mining rigs for the retail game, which would enable an Org to setup a permanent (or semi-permanent) mining operation on a planet.

Regardless, I'm very interested to see what the MISC Prospector mining ship is like. :)

Thanks @GeraldEvans - for moving it (I posted it in the Generic Ship thread since what we have learned about it has evolved).  I am going to create a new thread in the MISC forum specifically for the facts we do know about the Prospector (and post images once we get them) -------- and this thread (the Concept Sale Price Poll)..... for "theory-crafting" and speculation prior to the concept sale later this month (yes we know it will be in late April - per Ben) - and CIG plans on doing one a month for awhile.

The big difference between the Orion and Prospector will be: (posting in other thread since this is what we know....) --->>  But theory-crafting.... here are some good ideas from The RSI Forums.....

I am expecting it to be a ship that can split into 2 parts: the flight section dropping off the mining section.
The Flight section would then hover overhead and blast bits for the mining section to collect and grind into rubble.
Wouldn't surprise me at all if the mining section comes with tracks to drive around on asteroids/planetoids.
Once the miner has a full container, the flight section can pick it up and haul it away.

Size? somewhere between a Constellation and a Freelancer
Price? about USD$150-$180

@Sir-Berticus, I don't agree that it will have two parts. Instead, I think it will be between the Hull A or Reliant and the Freelancer in size and just have externally mounted cargo pods (like the Hulls) that can be moved to other ships, perhaps via an extendable arm or heavy duty tractor beam.

My reasoning is that the whole point of making a smaller mining ship is to make the role more accessible to players just starting-out, as well as potential solo players. Therefore, I think this ship will accommodate one to three people, and have at most medium range.

So what do we think this thing will look like? Stats?

I'm thinking it'll be roughly the size of the Hull B, another specialist 1-man MISC ship. About 40m by 15m by 10m.

I'd imagine it'd be a bit more aerodynamic, more Freelancer than Hull, since it can be expected to fly and work in atmo.
To that end, I think it could have an internal hookup for a few larger cargo containers as opposed to a spindle like the Hulls.

So, on to mining mechanics. The Laser-and-tractors approach of the Orion doesn't work as well Planetside when you have significant gravity and atmosphere to deal with, yet it still needs a tractor beam mount of some sort to not be entirely useless in an asteroid field.

Just created the new thread - for the facts we know about the ship -->>  MISC - Prospector (Mining Ship)

This older thread (Concept Sale Price Poll) is for theory-crafting / speculating what it "could be"

---------------

Here is an example of some good theory-crafting on Reddit --->>

1 person/small Mining Ship - i had to think on this one. self.starcitizen

Submitted an hour ago by Kheldras

For those who ever played Paper & Pen "Traveller" .. the 1 person mining ship totally remind me of the Seeker variant of the Scout/Courier...A Picture . Basically a scout ship retrofit for the independent prospector, mixing the basic Scout/Explorer capabilities with a mining laser and Ore carrying capabilities.

So to say, my hope for the 1 person mining ship: A little dash of explorer, to "go prospecting" not only in remote areas of a system not efficient for big ships, but also jump to another system to seek out small high profit minable areas there.

      My org is no longer going to focus on large scale mining operations, so I'm essentially selling several extra Orions as RSI credits;
$325 melt value ship with 6 months insurance for $275 including fees. I am PayPal verified for 15+ years, with multiple trades here,
and 100% (nearly 600) positive feedback on eBay.
Price is non-negotiable and no trades accepted. You must be PayPal verified and post a PM notice here prior to messaging me for a
      purchase. Thanks!

Edit - Forgot I have a few spare 'token" ships, so I can do one or more of these with LTI instead. $300 for LTI version.

Hello Ladies and Gentleminers of Imperium,
Update 1/15/2017: MM has 21 Orions. Our combined ship total at UEMC is approximatly 55 Orions. I will be representing UEMC as an ambassador to Imperium.
Update 11/21/2016: We now have 16 Orions up from 6 when I first posted here.
Saul Bitumen here. Do you want more UEC? Do you have an idle Orion rusting in your hangar? Let Multiverse Mining bring value to your underutilized equipment and profit while you sleep and wake up to the smell of UEC in the morning! Alright Saul, how can you staff even one Orion with an org your size let alone the six you've already got? Well Multiverse Mining is now partnered with United Earth Mining Corporation. A great group of guys ready to mine the depths of any rock. Lets make space bucks out of space rocks.
Ok Saul but how does this rental thing work anyways? Friends I present to you the various statements made by the developers regarding contracts and ship rentals. Details will have to be left to the imagination at this point, but I'm certain the premise of my proposal is sound.

      Our structure is as follows:

      #1: Leader
      #2: Co-Leader
      #3: Profession Leader
      #4: Profession Member
      #5: Profession Fill-in
      #6: Independent

With this structure, we allow as many profession leaders as possible to manage their own squadron. Should you want to be focused on mining you can star off as a Mining Member and eventually become a leader of your own crew. This goes for all types of professions. As for capital ship owners, maintaining a capital sized ship will be a profession on its own. An example of a #3 could be a Polaris captain with their own #4's as Polaris Crew Members.

Should anyone not want to focus their attention towards a specific profession, they can always do what they like. If someone knows that they wan't to always do their own thing, they can remain as "Independent" and progress on their own liking but still under the umbrella of the org.

With that being said, Self Made would like for all of you to consider applying and earning your own way among like minded individuals. Our goal is mutual benefit for all and to retaliate against any that would initiate force upon others. We uphold honor, integrity, and justice among the verse. Should you have any questions, feel free to ask. You can find our history in progress, manifesto, and charter on our RSI Org page here: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/orgs/1905

Should anyone be thinking about getting the game Star Citizen, you can always make an account now and purchase later. There is no need to buy the game when making an account.

We are currently more focused on hiring leaders of professions more than anything as of now. We currently do have a Polaris captain but would like to find dedicated mining leaders, cargo run leaders, and exploration leaders as such.

Thank you for checking us out, we hope to build a strong community of Self Made Men. Good day to all, and may the Verse be with you.
