What was the first video card you ever bought?

With the fact now nearly everyone buys a new graphics card after one or three years, Who remembers the first or second ever Graphics card?

I was 18 when i bought my 1st Card,  Orchid Righteous 3D - 3dfx Voodoo 4MB for just £105 GBP, it was only used in 3D games, when in Windows, the 2D card was used. You could hear the mechanical relay click in when you went into a 3D game like, GTA, Carmageddon, or Jedi Knight.

Of course come 2000 i was need of a serious Hardware upgrade, i built a new PC (AMD K6-2 450Mhz). I bought my second ever GPU it was the Creative Labs, Nvidia Riva TNT2 Ultra 32Mb for a mere £150 GBP

I can actually remember every GPU purchase for the past 18 years, but hey thats gaming for ya.

What was the first video card you ever bought?

3dfx Voodoo 2

I had a pc with one Voodoo 2 card, friend told me that i could link two cards in SLI mode for better fps or higher resolution, so i got a second card.

After that i had some prebuilt pc´s and then i built a pc with a Nvidia GTX 7900 GTX (also SLI), i did not notice i had to turn on SLI in the driver menu for at least a month ... Both cards died because of poor case ventilation a few months later...

Quite modern purchases compared to my 1st few, @Ross always got my hand me downs :P

You're probably 2 times older than me, so that's normal.
I bought my own PC just a few years ago. 2011/12 I think. Dunno.
At the beginning of 2015 bought a completely new one. So in total I didn't even had many different parts to far.

I think...although I'm not totally sure. The first card I bought separately was...

Creative Labs 3d blaster 5 fx 5600

I had gfx cards prior to this but I didn't build my own pc's at that point so they came supplied with the pre assembled computers.

I'm fairly certain this was an upgrade from a Riva TNT2 and it allowed me to play BF1942 without multi-coloured gfx and missing body parts etc!

Diamond Monster 3D (3DFX). Later Matrox G400 (first consumer graphics card supporting bump mapping), soon after on another PC a Geforce 256. Also had a couple of ATI cards. 4870 if I'm not mistaken (for home theater PC) and some other one.

The once popular performance and ugs with ATI graphics cards and their drivers made me a green guy, so most of my main PC graphics cards have been NVIDIA.
GTX 260, GTX 470, GTX 670. And so on.
So 18 years buying graphics cards. Wasting parents money and later, my own money :D

Yeh I've been pretty much solely Nvidia.

6800GT > 7900GTX > 9800GTX > 470GTX > 770GTX > 980Ti?

I'm now wondering where the 6800/7900 are, as I tend to store them. I know my 9800 is about somewhere and my 470GTX is in my 2nd pc.
