VoA
[[Ship Spotlight!]]X - 2 MANTA Advanced Starfighter WIP ^^^ See link or in spoiler below ChmeeChmee Posted: October 2014Edited: July 24 by Chmee A Xian/Human hybrid representing the pinnacle of cutting edge starship design, the X – 2 MANTA is a formidable opponent for the most demanding of combat situations. This craft sports huge twin gimballed thrusters for peak manoeuvrability and speed with an optional upgradable central rocket which can be swapped out for a storage unit for the more restrained travellers…X-2 MANTA Stealth Showcase Video: https://vimeo.com/134458753Brand new video - 22 July:Here's the first turntable video render. I created a new palette today which means much re-rendering in the next few days or settling for a mishmash of palettes to put up something earlier... https://vimeo.com/13418461813 July update: Matte painting:New interior details:Another update:Cabin work, detailing to be done on chair and some other bits and bobs. 24 June - with guns:Hornet loadout, "for close encounters..." 23 June... later that day:23 June Update:Refinement of engine shape, also connection between inner wing/struts and engines, detail is exposed in the Y-Wing/space hotrod tradition. 640,000 triangles (or 320,000 quads if you like quads) for this full LOD model.Mid June 2015 update:I've started tinkering with texturesSqueezed in some updated images of the Racing Variant:Update - Interior view forward. It's still WIP but the major structures are coming together. Subtle tweaks to the exterior panelling took some time and are nearly invisible, I almost didn't share this latest exterior render as it's not much different from before but it looked nice over the planet so.. extra mileage out of the one background AC screenie: achieved. More updates this week, the Sundagger's pistol might have to wait but I will get this as far as I can before Christmas and start on the cap ship. Chimaera
So...it's a SR-71 with beds?
Core
Its mobile porn. In the future you call an escort to have sex outside your window. Its "unsimulated". They fly their ship close to your ship, anywhere in the verse and commence their show.Mobile Porn. The future. All the porn, none of the STD's. Osclin
Definitely feels a bit too star wars for me personally(well, star wars prequels at least). That and I know I've seen the large ring behind the engine before, just can't think of where.I like the forward visibility, with the hud turned off you could definitely forget you were in a ship, but then he had to go an ruin it by cutting off all rear visibility. Core
In all seriousness though, I can't get over the design choice to put beds in the cockpit.Otherwise it looks ok, albeit a bit uninspiring due to its resemblance to the SR-71. Q2M

We can see soooo much in front of us, above us, below us... WTF WAS THAT?!?!""I don't know! It looked like a missile, but I can't see what's behind us!" I could see this as a version of the exploration pod for the Carrack. Also, the ring thing is something I've seen in EvE.

Taldren
My suggestions .. 1. Remove the center engine. 2. Add radiator like fins from the inside of the rear ring to the main body (cone shaped) to act as the hydrogen collector, else that ship will not be able to regenerate fuel/boost. 3. I would suggest having a metal ridge line along the sides like on the SR71 that extends further down the front cockpit to a ring where you can have a single cone window to give it more of a tie fighter like view in the center rather than having that horizontal line in the middle of your flight path. Zepheris
Looks like it's taken ideas from a mix of an SR-71 Blackbird, Star Wars Jedi Starfighter, and Holland Space Yards - ISX Enterprise (nasa). Q2M

But in that respect it fits right in with plenty of other SC ships. Except for the Gladius do any of of the others have proper visibility? You'd think that after a couple hundred years of service the Hornet would have eventually been offered in a bubble canopy variant. It shouldn't be too much to ask that 1940's tech and combat experience to carry over a little bit. Okay, bitch mode off, just wish I could have a nearly unobstructed view of space and during space combat when using a VR headset. If the bottom half of my screen is cockpit and I'm blocked by fuselage to the rear, just feels a little constrained for the future.
Fizzlefuse
I was immediatly reminded of the EVE ship and the StarWars shiny royal ship. That said, it does look really cool.
Drago
yeah, yeah, yeah ... there will always be tweaks here and there to be made to keep refining it, but come on for a fan made ship it is ... awesome! Let's just celebrate the beautiful universe of Star Citizen VoA
Gremlich
That's what I've always imagined the SR-71 should have been, had we of course not built it in the 1960's but in the future.I think it looks awe-inspiring because it evokes the SR-71.
