Wow, that unknown alien really gives me the creeps. Since we don't know much about the Kr'thak (lorewise), that unknown picture then is most likely a Tevarin, though he is alot more slender than I expected. The Xi'an art is also different from what I've seen. I'm used to a more turtle look.

not at all what i expected from the tevarin, if that is in fact a tevarin..
You can't judge a book by its cover, but they don't look like a warmongering species, which supposedly the Tevarin were, in a way.. they attacked us first and it was stated their preferred way of expansion was by conquest.

Id like to see CIG ad some non-humanoid sentient lifeforms and really crazy alien ships and worlds. Though these creatures all look bad-ass, they're all a bit too "human"... that's why I'm liking that the Vanduul tend to go on all fours on occasion, like they evolved from some kind of quadrupedal predator.

Keep in mind that it is difficult to actually create a new alien race. The alien you encounter must be superior (top of the food chain) in almost every way to the rest of the species on it's home planet, be able to contemplate theories, and have the ability to construct heavy items. bipedal and quadrupedal life forms we have already encountered on our home planet, and though they may not be bright enough to go to space, they are far more skilled than us at the art of hunting. Normally a species must have something that can actually perform tasks with basic appendages first. Centipede-type races would work, or perhaps beings such as the Lekgolo from Halo. They (obviously) must be sentient as well, however they cannot be sentient in just the hunter-type way (they CAN be skilled in the stalker way, but they also must have the ability to think scientifically and logically to the point of rocket science).

I know they're supposed to aliens but... why do they never have hair? Most aliens in modern science fiction are scaly and reptile-looking, just look at the pics above, they are all bald humanoids with greenish/grayish skin tones. Don't misunderstand me, they look great, I just wanted to point that out...

i would imagine that it has everything to do with how they became a space faring people. if your race is constantly hunted, and slaughtered for food, you do not have time for spaceships. only predators develop the skills to think in abstract ways to hunt down prey. only the top of the food chain can afford the time to build things. it's a common belief, that only predators ever make it to create civilizations. of course there is a wad of other factors thrown in there, but to be honest.... humans only got to where they are due to a meteor strike. in a parallel time line, dinosaurs could have evolved into an advanced race, and left mammals such as hoomans to be livestock. i myself welcome our raptor overlords.

Man, those Vanduul are even more scary on all fours.

"That is when you see the Vanduul in their natural habitat and are on all fours facing towards you that means they are being aggressive."

Heh, true that. I imagine that being voiced by David Attenborough

It's unfortunate that we don't know much about the Vanduul... like their internal hierarchy and social structure, nor do we know what their home planet is.
I hope we learn more about them in SQ42 and in the PU

There is a reason for this. If you think of fur, people usually imagine something cuddly, soft and cute. Even large predatory animals like large cats and bears we find appealing, even though they can and will eat us if we get to close.

Imagine a typical grey alien. you know the one.. big almond eyes. oval face.. now imagine it being completely furry. Suddenly it's a lot less scary. (still scary enough tho;) )

because hairless creatures like amphibians and reptiles are so different from us mammals, concept artists usually go for those kind of creatures if they want to design something that's truly alien looking.

I guess we will learn from playing in the PU about vanduul and other alien stuff. They dont want the game to be dull at start we need suprises and new stuff.

true. It wouldn't be much fun if we had all the answers already.

I want to know why they're always all wrinkly.. I mean, look at them! Pruneville.

We're not that wrinkly. Virtually no animals on Earth are that wrinkly, especially on their faces. Why are all these aliens so wrinkly? I mean, the features should have some evolutionary explanation rather than just looking cool. The spines on the 'duul, for instance, seem like they're there purely for fear factor rather than being of any practical use to the race.

Birds are from the dinosaur era too (as well as reptiles), so they're survivors here which means the form is probably survivable elsewhere. I think they should make a bird race... maybe for an in-game Easter Egg, throw in the Pkunk or Yehat ;)

True, we're not that wrinkly. Its what the artist prefers I guess. We have no idea what aliens would look like so who knows.. they might be wrinkly.
