I just wanted to know your thoughts on max and min requirements for the game at LAUNCH (not alpha or beta). This is just intended as a rough idea (obviously nobody knows yet), to give people a general idea of what to keep in mind when looking at their specs/what to upgrade, as well as to get some conversation started. Anyways, I hope my system is good enough haha.

I wonder how much they'll be able to streamline the game by full launch. I hope SC will run on 4GB so it can appeal to the widest audience. I'll be upping my rig to 16+ by then, but I have friends who'd I love team with that are only casual gamers.

There was not AMD Radeon options, So I had to check those before chose. I have 4GB RAM, Phenom II 1090T and I can play any of the games out there, But I just waiting for the "excavator" come with DDR4 and I will build other PC, with 24-32 GB RAM, to hold me for 5 more year, like the one I have. By the time the PU go on-line, I'm pretty sure I will have a PC to handle it at max. I don't consider the Graphics, because that is something that change fast, had to upgrade each 1-2 years.

Yea, I just chose some random cpus that were based on various tiers of benchmarks, so I apologize for the lack of detail, or specific options. I just wanted to use the various tiers as benchmarks generally, so that if someone's cpu was close to one option, they could just use that as a reference. My setup only has 8gb of ram, and I literally just build my tower a week ago. Even though ram is dirt cheap, I couldn't pony up enough for 16gb. It was a budget build, and I had to cut costs wherever I could find them. So, I am hoping that with a brand new graphics card right before launch, I can get away with 8gb. But by that time, I can probably afford 16, so it doesn't really matter, but something to keep in mind I suppose.

I need 16GB RAM just to run chrome now xD

So true, Chrome and Firefox are RAM eaters. Thats is why I use opera as my default browser, and Firefox for especial plugging when is needed. I hope that SC  don't require more than 4GB at minimum, because will push aside light PC gamers. But in the other hand, 8GB RAM is becoming the next min Standard, by the time the PU comes out 4GB will be too low, like today have 2GB is too low.

The minimum required was indicated to be 8GB. 4GB is barely enough to run regular games and windows. PLUS, if that 4GB is on a laptop, forget it.

If you build for today games 8GB is the safe place, but if you build so you keep up to the next generation of games 16GB. And if you build for 5years hold, 32GB will be in the top.

5.5 years ago I built a computer with 4GB, and ppl said I was insane. But now they say is too small, but is because is time for me to build a new one. All I ever changed of that computer is the video card, twice. Plus added a SSD.

5 years is a pretty long time for a build.   I usually expect my build to become midling after 3-4 years.  The laptop I bought in 2008 is basically junk now

Laptop is other world, I mean a desktop/tower. I can't say much about laptops, just buy one notebook one time and just for work. My gaming pc is a tower.

My actual pc is a AMD Phenom II 1090T(6 core, OC 4.0GHz) , 4GB RAM 1866, haf cooler master case with full 7 fans. A Hydro H50 (change de fans for dual bering low noise, but cooler). Nothing of this changed since 2009, still competitive today.

But 2015 arrive, need a new rig.

Yeah I agree. But I got some cheap ass friends. And they love their laptops, always talk about mobility even though the laptops are plugged into a docking station and haven't moved in ten months. Oh well, just means I'll have more time to fly with Imperium while my buddy's computers crash.

Well is set that more than 8GB RAM, for games, will be useless. But wait, you can plan for future usage or not.... ORRR, try the new RAM Disk softwares that are coming and growing out there.

Check this video,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIaz5WktAGg

There is pros and lots of cons right now, but he test with too much RAM, maybe will best to keep it on 1 of 2 application/programs/games you really use more, plus , REMEMBER to, add the savings to the RAM, mistake he did in the video when testing Crysis, Skyrim, and any game there.

I don't think a poll like this is honestly the best way to look at this, there are far more gpus and processors than can easily be fit in a thread like this, and the differences between them is not immediately apparent to anyone who is reading through it. The processors are in a rough order of performance from worst to best but it isn't perfect, as the 3570 is the best chip you have on your list for gaming, yet it isn't at the bottom. And since we are targeting max settings, it would make sense to put more than ancient cpus from 7 years ago to low-mid grade cpus from last generation as the only option on your list. (Not even a single current model intel cpu?)

As for GPUs, no SLI options? No AMD Options?

With the provided options you CAN'T build a computer that will run this game at max at release. Nothing here will be powerful enough in my opinion. On top of that, max at what resolution? If we're talking actual max.. ignoring surround, a single 980 won't provide enough power to drive this game at max on 5k displays at a consistent 60fps and even once SLI is working correctly, 2-3 of them very well might not provide enough power to do so, as I expect max settings for this game to be almost above and beyond what current generation hardware is capable of driving at reliable 60fps.

The best bet is to probably just have people post builds that should work well together to run the game at <x> target settings. That way you can have multiple "recommended" builds for a variety of settings, and you don't run into some of the issues outlined above.

What I can say, about video cards, is that even if anyone buy the best, of the best of any brand out there. It will not run the game at MAX. By the time the PU come out, will be better video cards, and even then, games AAA always set their MAX quality higher than the Video Cards on the market at the moment of release, to prolong the longevity of the game.  That is way I did not even mention Video Cards, before, it just too soon to even speculate.

@Chareon I think that is an awesome idea! You're right, this poll was kind of destined to fail from the start. Between the new tech that's going to be available upon release, to the limited tech options I listed, people just don't have the whole picture. I'm going to make a new topic on what builds are recommended for each of the settings, probably with an emphasis on what the best buy is on each of the products. Generally, people have an eye for savings in mind, so I'll try and use that as the backdrop for the builds, although people can obviously recommend whatever they like.

People should imagine what PC components will, on average, cost by Cyber Monday this year and start squirreling the necessary funds away. That's what I'm doing.

My current rig allows me to play a consistent 30fps+ on Very High settings. Sure, people could try for 60fps, but, frankly, if I don't get any game lag, I'm good.

To be fair, my upgrade will be limited to 16GB more system RAM and a new single GPU. I figure by November 2015, memory allocation issues in the newer cards will be fixed.
