the P52

Using the P52 to escape the Connie during In a fleet battle makes more sense. However, the consequence would be the same if you were blown up in the P52 versus ejecting and waiting for a S&R ship to pick you up.

There's also the matter that if you're in an Imperium battle group, your Connie would probably be fully crewed with Imperium members or NPCs. So you'd bail in your snubfighter and leave the others behind?  ;)  :P j/k

I think the P52 is best used to support the Connie in battle. It should be able to escort the Connie, and if an enemy ship attacks the Connie, the P52 should be able to outmaneuver it, get on its tail, and force it to disengage.

I don't think the P52 is going to be a failiure like you all pretend. Maybe is not so hard or has so many guns, but I don't think it's main role is going to be to 1 vs 1 a fighter.

I've played other simulators like BSG and in that one, the main intention of the fighters allways was to get in the tail of the bigger ships to get the "black point" were they can't get shot by it's guns. That allowded 3 or 4 fighters to take down even a capital ship if it was unescorted.

The problema came when they had 1 fighter escort or more. That forced the attackers to get into a dogfighting before attacking the capital ship, while allowing it to maneuver and shoot the fighters with its missiles or big pium pium.

So at least in BSG:

Capital ship super sayan IV bla bla bla... alone = Nomnom!!!

Capital ship with ANY escorts = Maybe another day...

Kind regards.

If at all possible I would prefer to trade in the P52 for additional storage, not that I don't think it's capable but my play schedule comes and goes making it difficult to guarantee I can have 3 other players assist me in transport; and since an NPC cannot pilot the P52 or 'Stella on their own it would be of little use when things take a dive.

I like the Merlin, and I'm sure I'll use it somehow, and I'm sure that tactics will develop around it. Having said that, I would rather have an unarmed "ship's tender" that could transport 3 or 4 people or maybe a ton of cargo. Or maybe a mining robot. Maybe we'll get more options later. I'm sure that ships as small as the Merlin can't cost more than $15,000 or so to design, so maybe the devs will give us some loving in the Connie's fighter bay? But for now, I plan to put Fritz the NPC in the Merlin and make him go out there in it and test the waters. I never really cared for Fritz anyway.

Dat ass yo!!!

It looks completely different style and fidelity wise to any other ship out there. I'm hoping the re-work brings it up to the Merlin's level, with the Merlin being the new benchmark.

@Gallatin, this is another ship that will require a manufacturer page ;).

CIG is getting a little out of hand now, because that ship is pure sexy.

I see it's gotten one. Can we rename the page and place it with the appropriate manufacturer Kruger Intergalactic? Also, can KI make more ships because damn I want more of this!

So, what are everyone's thoughts on the Merlin? I'm debating melting my M50 for it since I already have a Vanguard and a Carrack. It seems like the fun ship will be the Merlin, also the HUD is a hell of a lot better than the M50. Thoughts? Pros/Cons?

I haven't had a chance to play 1.1.5 on the PTU but I am excited about the Merlin.  I would much rather have a player / NPC in a snub fighter than in a Turret (sure the Turret will do more damage - but it can be avoided easier).  Looks like from this Vid that the Merlin can fight a decent fight.  It only reinforces the Phoenix being my favorite ship - and can't wait to see how much stronger the P72 is

The Merlin is here!

Originally designed to pair with the RSI Constellation, the P-52 Merlin is now available to all pilots! A dedicated parasite fighter, the Merlin is designed to be transported from place to place aboard a larger ship. Boasting a centerline Gatling cannon and a Lightning Power engine, the Merlin is a fast, maneuverable ship that packs a surprising punch! Ideal for racing, local reconnaissance and fast combat.

Backers who own the Constellation Andromeda and the Constellation Aquila can fly their Merlins today! Additionally, pilots who have a Constellation Phoenix, 890 Jump, Idris or Carrack in their fleets will be awarded a loaner Merlin in place of their parasite ships that are still in development. Early reviews say that the Merlin is a joy to fly: a true artist’s ship!

About the Merlin

The P-52 is a versatile short-range fighter designed to offer support in combat situations as well as reconnaissance. Kruger Intergalactic’s first foray into Starships is nothing other then a marvel. The P-52 Merlin (which comes stock in some models of the RSI Constellation benefits form decades of research into ergonomic design and a company eager to prove itself.

The opportunity to do so came thanks to their long standing relationship with RSI who was looking to outsource production on the small short range vessel that was to be packaged with their Constellation line. Kruger won the bid and produced the P-52 and P-72 for RSI both which heavily featured Kruger parts and weapons.

Thanks for the link @GeraldEvans.

Has anyone seen anything saying that the Aquila comes with the P-52 standard or do you need to purchase it separately? I know when they sold the Aquila they said it would not come standard but I see the following advertised and would like some clarification. "Backers who own the Constellation Andromeda and the Constellation Aquila can fly their Merlins today!"
