CIG have mastered the Jedi Mind Trick.

I was personally very impressed with this ship, more a mini-cruise ship/yacht than an airbus, I particularily liked some of the thought behind the troop transport. Honestly, I'm probably still not going to buy it. But that doesn't mean that I can't NOW see how it would be a desireable asset, and a benefit to the Org. Particularily to anyone looking to move large groups of marines.

The only thing that could make this even cooler would be the ability to electro-skin your troop transport to look like a typical passenger ship and go flying around pirate space to see if anyone tried to board. With a double compliment of Marines on-board (using the confirmed "hot-bedding" technique). Of course you'd need to have some friends to tow home all the perfectly intact but now derelict pirate ships. (Is it piracy to bait pirates and pirate their pirated pirate stuff?)

Theory-crafting is fun :D

My first impression of the Genesis Starliner was: "Once again, CIG has over-priced a Concept Sale ship -- which is supposed to be sold at a "discounted" price!"  After all, the Genesis Starliner is 2

Also, like they've pointed out, the Genesis is the only ship so far that immediately makes money. If you own one and you make it available NPCs will pay you to get somewhere. No other current ship of

Great preview, too. BTW, is it just me or was Lisa wearing her hair kinda like Aerith from FF?

Anyone else think that the Genesis Starliner looks very similar to the Banu Merchantman -- just without the dorsal and ventral fins?

I got some of that vibe, but it's hard to tell looking at what they showed us. It'll be better to judge tomorrow, once we see the concept art and animations (if any).

Honestly all, wait until tomorrow before you finally say yay or ix-nay. We'll have all the details then.

The original design for the MM didn't look to much like the genesis starliner.

GJALQzC.jpgJBhCKqq.jpg

however the 'community' had to FREAK OUT over a tiny thumbnail that looked like it was 'flying backwards' so they stripped everything and flipped it around to appease the sensibilities of the 'humans' which i think is crap. the old layout made much more sense, hell. look how much better visibility the bridge has, and how aggressive, sleek, and slightly alien it was.

don't complain the genesis looks like the banu, complain they took a unique hull design and dumbed it down to appease the 'average' consumer. this is why the car makers never can sell us the cool concept cars they show off, but everything end up being morphed into dull family sedan by the time it makes it to market.

Why canards?  Seriously, why?

I am assuming (cause all we've seen is a silhouette), is to match the big fans on the back and have smaller fans up front for VTOL.

Personally.... LIKE the Connies..... I have a hard time believing that a fan would be able to generate enough lifting force to overcome the gravitational pull for something of that mass.  Maybe thrusters, but just like the Helicarrier in the Marvel world....just press the "I believe button" and accept it. :D

I wonder if we are going to see any further troop ships. Having a think the Genesis is way too small too allow for efficient mass transport. I mean you wouldn't want to have to use 1000 of these just to move an invasion force to a planet. You'd want something larger or would they simply use large capitol ships for transport, Bengal/Battleship etc. But then these aren't capable of transporting the troop to the planet itself. Therefore we would need a drop ship to carry troops on mass, bigger than the Redeemer and less complicated than the clearly multirole-ish Genesis.

I'm happy with my 890. Although I wonder if it will allow for mass transport instead of luxury transport via modular changes.

Minted... I guess they would categories or compare the troop variant like the Chinook helicopter, or.... Better yet the C-17.  Planet invasion, like any sifi, would require a large amount of these type ships, dropping company size elements around strategic locations. Probably keeping the idea of not putting all your eggs in one basket.

I am glad CIG is taking into consideration ships like the Hull series and this Starliner for immersion factor.  Game play may not be super fun (or maybe it can be), but we get to see/experience/believe that this is all real.

Honestly.... Just glad to have a little traction in SC community.

@GeraldEvans.... I am am thinking the 890 is still better in the sense of ME comparing it to a G650. Only the super wealthy will pay for a ride in that, where as the rich will fly in the Luxary variant of this Airbus 787

I'm a little confused about variants and modularity or at least that they haven't mentioned it. Modularity should mean that you can configure the Genesis how you want it. So you could take some luxury parts and combine it with parts for troop transport.

Also while they only say "it's bigger than the Constellation", it might very well as large as the 890 Jump and seeing a luxury variant for the Genesis, I'm wondering what makes the 890 jump unique now.

The VTOL fans in the canards are actually visible sometimes and while it's hard to believe, that while 900 years in the future, fans will provide enough lift for taking of, it's possible that the maneuvering thrusters help during landing/starting.

Otherwise the fans don't have to provide as much lift as a helicopter rotor, once the ships in Star Citizen are clear, they can fire the main engine.

At least it's nice to look at. There are solutions that may be easier to believe, but are not visible at all, e.g in the Perry Rhodan universe they are using anti gravity devices.

Well the Chinook and C-17 are pretty dedicated transport ships. The Genesis certainly isn't. With bunks, an armory, bathrooms, canteen and briefing room it is abit of a multi task ships. Without all the other stuff you could fit a huge amount more troops onboard. Then it becomes a proper dropship. Afterall you don't want to be sending into a hot zone some uber complicated and expensive multi role ship.

I can believe the fans, because they are powered by a massive powerplant, and not a limited battery pack whose charge must be stretched as long as possible like modern day. Also there will be some menuvering thrusters that can point down, and possibly a few anti-grave repulsers to help out & make landings softer for passengers. Ad for the difference between the 890 and the genesis, the genesis seems larger. It's like a modern day passenger jet. Mixed/ economy/1st class/military transport variants exist.  The 890 jump is a personal luxury yacht for the super rich that has room for yourself, and a few friends and their +1's.

I don't get why people would want to rip backrooms/ canteens, etc and just have a giant hold to cram people in like the old slave ships.

Ok look, this game is not going to require you to eat food every 30 seconds or fall over dead like most games, but there was a good thread in the subscribers den a while back that talked about how people really only need to eat ~1 day that was very positive about the logistical and gameplay effects about requiring food. On a latter 10ftcm CR was talking about how you would need to occasionally have to shower&eat & that is wouldn't have a huge impact on the game but would be required for peak play.

Additionally the bulk of people being transported will be NPCs, if we want a galactic presence we will have to supplement our PC numbers with NPC's sometimes. Which npc do you want by your side? cheap crappy npc's with low skill that are willing to be carted around in whatever way keeps em safe as long as it pays the bills, or the high skilled contractors and mercenaries that will be used to a better life style and show up to the combat area with a full stomach, and empty bladder, fresh cleaned and maintained equipment, and is clean, invigorated, and feels great.

as for the PC passengers. do you think players would rather ride on a ship they can look out the window and see whats going on, buff & otherwise take care of their character, hop into a sim-pod (Remember Areana Commander requires a super-computer to run on, something you would only find in a corporate building, in ones home, or run on a space-ships high end computer. It's program doesn't run on mobi-glass or in a helmet those are only interface devices to it) or hop into an escape pod to safety log out and know they will still be alive if the ship blows up, or on a ship where they are shoved in a box and can do nothing but stare at the wall for an hour until they get where they go for whatever they are needed for.

Even if it only takes 10 minutes to get around on points of interest on average in a system, that is still an hour for 6 jumps.

If they stick with the ~10 nps per person limit, this ship transports enough for 4 people.

I think flying around the verse, collecting the best NPC's and delivering them where they are needed freshly buffed for work could end up being a lucrative business. You could also pick up PC crew with a good reputation and deliver them directly where they are needed. I could see people preferring to ride with ships that are kept stocked & provide inflight entertainment options.

I really like that they are adding stuff like this to the game. It means there will always be lots of different things for us to do, and to become the 'best' at. I'm tired of games that have no depth beyond collect shit & sell it & kill anyone who tries to stop you & die & respawn over and over. I don't want a game where i just zone out the whole time and start watching a movie or reading something else while I'm playing and takes no brain power, and has more skill required to be mastered than only being the best at pointing and shooting.

Starliner is one of those ships, that you would want to know someone who knows how to run one if you want to establish the best galactic empire. In other words, the type of ship that good for groups. Having them in the game provides more ways for them to differentiate themselves from each other. I hope they stay relevant and don't get pushed to far into the background behind the combat oriented ships.

edit:

the thing i don't like about this ship, is that yet again a hollywood designer threw the exterior together without much thought into how it would actually have to function, and leave it to someone else to figure out how much of the stuff would work. Even this second person when building the interior only though of the basics for humans. (where they sit, where they sleep). air-locks and safety where an afterthought that had to go back in the second pass. Where are the damage control, and backup / main life support systems. In the video the guy was like.. 'we want there to be lots of safety and backup systems, so see.. here is a shield generator'

Ok, where is the auxillary shield generator? where are the backups kept so that the main and aux ones can be fixed/repaired when they are damaged.  what happens if the hull is breached? how do you isolate areas of the ship when most of it is large single rooms that hold almost everyone. I didn't see suit storage or any repair capabilities in those segments.
