Aegis Vanguard - Twin Engine Deep Space Fighter

My vote is for the 3rd.

Although, I thought I saw something on reddit that in one of the interviews out of Pax East it was said the Vanguard wouldn't go on sale for backers.  Something about, they wanted to save some Squadron 42 ships for the single player campaign only, and there might not be a carryover to the PU.  I can't find the link quoting it, but i saw it somewhere.

You must have it confused with another ship, possibly the F8, because the Vanguard has already been confirmed as a pledge ship, and in fact is supposed to be the next concept sale now that the orion has debuted.

Ahh I think you're right, the F8 Lightning is the ship that likely wont be sold, not the Vanguard.  Thanks for the correction!

Yep, F8 is current military, like the F7A we can't have. The Gladius is ours because it's retired, and the Vanguard is just paramilitary goods.

Show me the concept! [emoji195]

Sorry, it's in my other hat.

What I heard in my head was "Show me the concept and I'll show you the money".  Which came out kind of dirty...I think I may have a ship fetish...

Is there any chance of the Vanguard having cargo space? Have they said anything?

I don't recall CIG having mentioned anything about the Vanguard's cargo capacity. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a Vanguard variant model with a small cargo hold -- probably comparable to the 300i or F7C's cargo capacity.

However, if you're interested in making money hauling cargo, the Vanguard isn't the ship for that role. It would make more sense to use a Vanguard to escort a Mercantile ship, and the owner of that ship pay the Vanguard pilot a cut of the profit for their protection.

Here's the math:

If a Vanguard has the same cargo capacity as a 300i or F7C, it would be 16 FU's.

A Freelancer has 168 FU's, which is more than 10 times greater.

If the Freelancer owner paid the Vanguard pilot 20% of the profit, the Vanguard pilot would earn twice as much by escorting the Freelancer than hauling a much smaller amount of cargo in their own ship.

So I think it would be more worthwhile for the Vanguard to serve as a long-range escort-fighter than as a light mercantile ship.

I was just hoping if there's ANY at all, then it may be able to be used for light salvage (tractor beam pending), etc. It's definitely a fighter, not a freighter, but it'd be interesting if you blew something up and they dropped an alien artifact from the hold..  just thinking about versitility/options.

Good point.

The only problem with equipping a tractor beam in the Vanguard's gun turret is you'd be sacrificing confirmed firepower for the mere possibility of acquiring a rare item drop. Personally, I'd opt for the cannons. :D

I imagine that it will be possible to acquire a piece of salvage or an artifact, even in a Vanguard, by going EVA and grabbing it. Most flight suits have at least limited EVA ability, and if the item is small enough for an avatar to carry they could probably retrieve it and bring it aboard the ship. The Vanguard is supposed to have an interior cabin that allows the pilot and gunner to reach a shared escape pod in the center of the ship. It might not technically be cargo space, but you could probably drop an item in the interior cabin and fly it back to base.

Or, since we're Imperium members, you could call in a buddy with a hauler ship to retrieve it for you. The benefits of being part of a team. :)

Hmm...if I see a valuable enough piece of salvage and I can eva for it I'd be willing to cap my gunner in the head, toss his corpse out into space, and put the salvage in his vacated seat...I mean, hypothetically, of course, I'd never do that to any of you...

If you split the proceeds with me, hypothetically I might be okay with that...

I would expect the vanguard to have heavy energy weapons and a power supply that is able to provide them ample juice. It makes no sense relying on missiles and ammo-type ordnance in a deep space fighter. I expect this ship will have a shitload of forward facing guns so it can hold its own with those lasers/ neutron guns even when it runs out of missiles.

It might have some dedicated space for extra munitions. :)

At least I'm hoping that we might get something like the Delta has. No use for a deep space fighter if you run dry after one fight; right? :P

Ummm....was that only in the JP?. I'm sure that when they pushed out the finished product of the Mustang DELTA. They took that feature away just like the armor and replaced it with the "Cavalry Class Mass Reduction Armor".

They took the missiles off the wings also, the rocket pods come with a standard 18rds payload which gives it a outstanding 36rds for combat.

Now I could be wrong and we could see this before the PU or it could be added in the PU as a purchase to upgrade your hull.

No clue, I just know I had seen it somewhere and it served my purpose in using it as an example for munitions storage (just a little more secure and not stacked like that). :P

Right on, but I don't think that would happen. In order for that to happen, I say that all ordnance on the craft would have to be internal in order to have a auto reload.

The last concept listed is very close. The engines on the vanguard I saw where longer but in general terms this one is closest.
