Aegis Vanguard - Twin Engine Deep Space Fighter

Recommended Posts

Aegis Vanguard class Twin-Engine Deep Space Fighter – Strike hard from a distance! The Vanguard, a recent design from Aegis, has quickly become Earth’s premier deep space fighter. Deep space fighters are typically used to pursue engagements in outlying areas when support from a carrier is not available. Vanguards are usually flown by ground- and station-based naval forces, and are widely used by militia squadrons. Specifically designed to operate from planetary bases and engage targets up to a star system’s distance, the fighter trades some maneuverability for an extended supply of fuel and munitions as well as basic survival accommodations for a pilot and radar operator. The Vanguard’s RIO operates a turret, the ship’s missile loadout (optionally) and its highly advanced sensor suite. This distinct scanning array gives the ‘Guard a particular advantage when fighting in and around an obstacle such as an asteroid field or nebula! Finally, the Vanguard is known to be an extraordinarily sturdy spacecraft, with multiple backup systems not commonly found in single-seat ships; stories of Vanguards limping back to base with a single engine and half their fuselage exposed to vacuum have become common as the battle against the Vanduul has heated up.

Another Aegis ship, my favorite manufacturer!! Very stoked!

Bestill my giddy heart.  I've always played tanks in traditional MMOs, and while that mechanic doesn't apply here, the idea of flying something that is both useful and tanky REALLY appeals to me.  The thought of a few  Bulldogs spreading out across a sector on a search and destroy mission, scanning, locating, and executing a coordinated multi-vector attack on an enemy convoy...drool...

Sounds very interesting, but I really hope the name is just a placeholder as 'Bulldog' really doesn't strike me as a good name. Should have gone with something more Aegis Dynamics, like Vindicator or something.

well the "Vindicator" sounds like a bulldozer, similar to the vindicator tank from Warhammer 40K.

Yes, this will be a smash hit to my ship collection. at the moment i only have the cutlass black and the Aurora LN so looking for something new. or even better, have am IDRIS-M so i can keep my ships in side while flying the IDRIS around :)

I wonder if this is going to be a super hornet killer....if it is that would be sad :(

Don't worry, hornets primary function is to kill.

I just have the feeling that dogfighting one of these BUlldogs will be akin to dogfighting a Connie.

Yes it sounds like a standard exercise in balance. Designed to be long range, designed to find, kill and survive.

I expect it to be a lesser fighter than the hornet but then the hornet is not designed to travel over long distances hunting for enemy. Its designed to launch from a carrier and kill effectively over short distances where the enemy is already known.

Might be worth a purchase. What price we expecting? Same, more or less than the Hornet?

I'd imagine its probably as capable as a Super Hornet, it just has slightly different strengths. Long range but less manoeuvrability vs nimble but limited range.

I can imagine a handful of these patrolling an outer perimeter, with Hornets on standby to be able to fly straight to combat, rather than Hornets needing to be closer to home so they can refuel.

They also sound perfect for long haul escort roles, where Hornets or Gladius would require too many stops for fuel. A Bulldog or maybe Cutlass could be the next best thing for escort ships.

Aegis Avenger, Aegis Retaliator, Aegis Gladius, Aegis Idirs, Aegis Redeemer, Aegis Reclaimer... Now Aegis Bulldog? When did we go for animal names? :P

Update: CIG has confirmed their earlier names were actually an issue with auto-predict on CIG computers, the long range bomber should have been the Alligator, and the TNGS was oddly meant to be Rudolph the red nosed reindeer, all manufactured by Eagle, not Aegis.

CIG also demanded to know who leaked news of the Shitzu to SCB!

I also hear rumours that... the Cross chassis upgrade from a shitzu to a bulldog results in an easter egg... known as the Bullshit.

Except for the scanning system, it pretty much sounded like the Aegis version of the Cutlass. Twin engine, turret, living area. Perhaps a little smaller, and thicker armour. Probably less cargo. (As a military vessel for two pilots I don't see it having a lot of space for cargo.)

Excited for the concept art next year!

Wow, this sounds great... ;)

I always loved the BF 110(although it flies like a brick in Warthunder).

I like the look of the aircraft, but it only worked as a nightfighter. Originally it was designed to escort bombers but shortly needed it's own escort of Bf-109 /FW190 against enemy fighters outturning them badly. Best heavy fighter of WW2 was the Lockheed P-38 in my eyes.

If it has any cargo space I'll be deeply disappointed.  Only way it should get any cargo space is if you neuter it post-purchase by removing its munitions storage and extended fuel supply modules, but even then I'd vote no.  Stretching a hull to provide cargo space only screw up its combat capability.  Either you shift too much mass from its core and make it clunky to maneuver, you maintain desired armour thickness across a larger hull area and greatly increase its mass, or you thin the armour across the larger hull area making it less survivable.  Not opposed to multi-use characteristics, just want a long-range fighter that doesn't compromise itself for merchantman considerations.

It has been a good ground attack craft.....as long as there was air superiority. But you`re right the looks of the BF 110 are beautiful.
