RSI - Andromeda (Constellation)

We currently have many Connie threads posted under various Forum Sections but we don't have one Specifically for the RSI - Andromeda(Constellation) under the Ship Threads so I am adding this one.  I created the in the ship threads and it has become very large of late rolling in all the news and chat about ALL the new Connie Variants - but each of these Variants deserves their own Thread now under the Ship Section (so we can have more targeted posts).

I am also posting an "Older" version of the Connie Video from Anything FPS (since it is such an awesome Vid) - and will replace it on this OP when he generates a new one like he did for the Phoenix.

There are many other questions people have about the Andromeda and what it is used for and how it differs from the other Connie Variants (the items below are based on what we know or are speculation -- like most everything is - since the game is in development).

  • The Andromeda isn't actually a "variant" - it is the Original Connie
  • The Andromeda is "almost" on par with the Phoenix variant in terms of Ship to Ship combat (it has more missiles than the Phoenix but the Phoenix has a larger power plant and the P72 Archimedes - a more powerful short range fighter).
  • Andromeda comes stock with a P52 Merlin (the Taurus and Aquila don't)
  • Andromeda comes stock with two Class 5 Turrets (the Taurus and Aquila don't)
  • Andromeda doesn't come stock with a Rover but I am sure you could buy one as an upgrade option
  • It has a good amount of Cargo space - More than the Phoenix but less than the Taurus
  • It requires a Max Crew of 5 unlike the other Connies that only require a Max Crew of 4
  • It is a Multi-Function Ship --- Allowing it to be adapted and upgraded for any mission type (but won't excel in any specific mission type vs the other Connie Variants).

If the Connie is as modular as its supposed to be I really hope they let us put in a rear turret in the place of the Merlin dock. A turret in the back would be great!

Or more Snub Fighter docks in the place of turrets! Have a 3 Snub Fighter Connie! Or 3 M-50's since they are the roughly the same size.

Confirmed - On Geekdomo's StarCast Podcast -  he also goes into upgrade clarifications.

  • Andromeda comes with a TR5 Main Thrusters
  • Phoenix comes with a TR5 Main Thruster but can be upgraded to a TR6 Main Thruster (and ONLY TR6's are available on the Phoenix - not available on any other Connie Variant - 1:26 into Vid).
  • Phoenix comes with a Class 9 Weapon - and No other Connie has this Hardpoint so no other Connie Variant can have this.
  • Ben Confirms that you can not take a another Connie Variant and upgrade it to what is Specific to the Phoenix.
  • The Rovers in The Phoenix and Aquila do count as cargo (FU's) but how much hasn't been defined.  The Rovers also have their own capacity to carry Cargo themselves.  Andromeda owners can get an Ursa (not Lynx) Rover as an upgrade.
  • A question was asked ("how do you stack cargo high up in the cargo hold of a Connie if you can't fit it between the dropped cargo door and the bottom of the ship hull" - Ben's response was is that they will have interior loaders for stacking up high cargo "inside the ship".
  • There was a Question about the M50 fitting inside a Constellation.  Ben replied by saying that they had a recent meeting on this... and thinks that I can fit in the Connie (since it is so small).  This means they intend to have the possibility of Hauling smaller ships inside of Larger ships (if it fits in their cargo hold).  There was NO DISCUSSION about the M50 being able to "Launch or Land" in the Connie ----- so it will "probably" be treated as Cargo ONLY and you'll probably need a Carrier type of Ship like the Idris to launch and land ships.

In case anyone has missed this post from Ben Lesnick:

So how can one say that the Andromeda has Space Superiority in the Constellation Class ships when the Phoenix Variants appears to be a much better ship?

"Space Superiority" is a role classification that means the model is designed to be good at shooting down other spacecraft (rather than, say, built for being an explorer or a luxury ship.) It is in no way a promise that a particular ship is superior to all others in every way. The term comes from Air Superiority Fighter, a designation used to mean the same thing in modern aircraft. (For context, the F-22 is an air superiority fighter, while the F-35 is a multirole fighter.)

Would like it more if they did something like

The ship would look alot cleaner without cargo. Dont realy like the cargo pit.

I agree - I think I posted this Nooblets vid when it first came out.  I love his ideas - even his earlier ideas of changing the Living quarters on the Connie.  He also has a great idea for cargo and living inside the 300i ships :)
