RSI - Phoenix (Constellation)

Recommended Posts

We currently have many Phoenix threads posted under various Forum Sections but we don't have one Specifically for the RSI - Phoenix (Constellation) under the Ship Threads so I am adding this one.  I created the in the ship threads and it has become very large of late rolling in all the news and chat about ALL the new Connie Variants - but each of these Variants deserves their own Thread now under the Ship Section (so we can have more targeted posts).

Phonix_New_Source.jpg

Star Citizen - Interior - Phoenix Constellation Variant Luxury Cinematic (NEW Vid from Anything FPS) = NOTE - There is an ERROR in this Video based on an omission currently existing in the Phoenix (unfinished model).  Anything FPS goes through and animates what can be animated by using CryEngine himself on the Model from the Data file.  The a storage compartment under the Top Turret access seat is the error.  There is a Missile Storage cargo hold between the turrets and around the ground access personnel hatch (under the floor) - but there will also be a Lower Turret like with the Andromeda model (Ben Confirmed they will update the Phoenix model to include the Lower Turret).

There are many other questions people have about the Phoenix and what it is used for and how "powerful" it is vs the other Connie Variants (the items below are based on what we know or are speculation -- like most everything is - since the game is in development).

  • The Phoenix is Identified as "Luxury Touring"... so what is this --- Transporting People (and specifically other players and VIP NPCs) will likely be extremely profitable since they will want Luxury but also because they will require high security (High firepower of the Phoenix) + even Escort Fighters (and with the Phoenix you also have the P-72 Archimedes).
  • The Phoenix also serves as a Command and Control Ship --- the Theater and Table (and even Bar and Kitchen)....... serve as "Command and Control" functions for War Room meetings... (for other players having meetings on your ship to go over Battle Plans) --- I suspect the Theater will function as a Holo Viewer like you see the 3d command and control holo sphere in the Idris (the Phoenix could also have a 3d holo sphere as well).
  • Can you remove the Furniture? -- We don't know for sure yet..."In General"... CIG is "trying" to "limit" the amount of "customization" you can do to a ship to hardpoints and ship skins.  This will allow them to "modularize" changes (using the holo table in your Hangar and ship upgrade options as found on the web page) and this will make the game "easier" to produce and finish.  There will ... however... be exceptions to this... and I think removing the Bar / Table / Theater / Jacuzzi / Bed --- will be an option (to have them removed).
  • Can I change the Color Scheme or Look of the Phoenix - Yes - all ships Exterior looks can be changed with Ship Skins (add-on in the Pledge store).  I am proposing to the Devs (hopefully they see it) that the skins affect the Interior as well.  See RSI Forums and (links).
  • How Powerful of a Fighting Ship is the Phoenix relative to the Other Connie Variants.  It use to be definitely more powerful with the Main thruster difference.  Currently it is a little bit more powerful than the Andromeda (see items to follow).
  • When introduced there was confusion about if the Phoenix would have TR7 main thrusters... now it has TR5's like all Connies (even TR6's where too powerful vs other ships like the Freelancers and Retaliator - so the nerf makes sense).
  • The Phoenix has less missiles than the Andromeda (making the original Connie a better missile boat) - but the Phoenix makes up for this with items below and has all S2 Missiles while the Andromeda has some S1 missiles
  • Phoenix has a stronger Hull (more Armor) than the other Connies - per Ben
  • Phoenix has a larger power plant than the other Connies (making shields and energy weapons + other ship systems) more powerful.
  • Phoenix has an automatic Ship Defense Class 9 system to shoot down ships and missiles shown in the Brochure in the AFT. Per Ben -  - and No other Connie has this Hardpoint so no other Connie Variant can have this.
  • The P72 Archimedes is a more powerful Short Range Fighter than the P52 Merlin (but currently is only equipped with the P52 - this is a temporary snub fighter place holder).
  • The Phoenix comes with a Rover.  The Lynx will be a luxury rover - unlike the exploration Rover the Aquila has (the Ursa). The Rovers in The Phoenix and Aquila do count as cargo (FU's) but how much hasn't been defined.  The Rovers also have their own capacity to carry Cargo themselves.
  • There is still a discrepancy between the website and brochure between Max Crew of 4 vs 5
  • Phoenix comes with a TR5 Main Thruster but can be upgraded to a TR6 Main Thruster (and ONLY TR6's are available on the Phoenix - not available on any other Connie Variant - 1:26 into Vid Geekdomo's StarCast Podcast -).
  • Ben mentioned that the Home Theater Screen inside the Phoenix (and in Bars in the PU - including the screens in your Hangar) will be able to tie into an In-Fiction news program (like watching Arena Commander Tournaments  or something on the Galacticpedia) -- This is something CR has mentioned in earlier interviews as something he wants - they don't know how they are technically going to do it but they are working on it.  He also mentioned it might be able to be tied into You-Tube and other streaming options :o
  • And we can't forget... the Phoenix comes with 2 showers (shown on Brochure and in the vid above).  One for the Crew in the main living area.... but also one for washing off as you get out of the Jacuzzi :gr_pimp:

looks great, but hey? who's controlling the ship when the captain is in the hot tub with some strippers he just picked up from earth?

"ALERT HOSTILE ENEMY DETECTED.. WE ARE BEING SCANNED... SHIELDS HOLDING AT 100% (OH ITS JUST A POOR KID IN HIS AURORA TRYING TO SCRATCH MY EXPENSIVE PAINT JOB)"

"CAPTAIN JUMPS OUT THE HOT TUB, SETS THE ON BOARD COMPUTER TO DEAL WITH THE AURORA AND GETS BACK INTO THE HOT TUB WITH THE GIRLS"

@VoA Since the Phoenix is now in my hangar and if I have 8 people either VIP's or friends jump in the jacuzzi do you think we will be able to have different types of bathing suits,  since I can't envision seeing avatars jumping in naked or with my flight suit?  I hope there will be some sort of immersion and not just for show. If it's is then I would rather see an interactive pool table with my quest or convert the whole dang thing turning it into a casino royal for the VIP's.

Should be interesting to see what they do with it and interested in your views and opinions.

When not for bathing-suit action I will use the Hot Tub for brewing beer or questioning pirates in a comforting acid bath.

Hopefully it comes with a cleaning robot that would help with all three uses.

:)

Realistically though I don't expect much functionality out of the Phoenix luxury interior so it is just for looks as creating lots of special animations for character models interacting with all the furniture will probably be very low on CIGs to-do list.

Eh, I don't know. They have said many times that there will be a lot of things to interact with on all of the ships. The UI is not present in our versions, but I do know they are working on something for this. I suppose that we could go to the fridge, open it, and grab a drink or food and consume it. But do remember that there is a crew quarters on this ship separate from the luxury section.

It allows the Phoenix to serve as a command and control (War Room) function like an Idris. It also allows access to missions shuttling VIP NPCs and Players which will be highly profitable do to the high risk of an ambush (Ransom)

remains to be seen though if that is just the C&C module that all the Connies can be upgraded with

so it could well be that we don't get anything out of the interiour except bling and VIP-ferry

But you coulb be right maybe it allows for some better C&C as the big screen can be also used as one additional station.

This information all comes from the ultra reliable source that is VoA's imagination.

Not to be a dick but a lot of your posts contain a lot of speculation, which would be fine if it wasn't written down as if they were facts.

:(  You should have read the OP of this.... thread before posting this --->> see small quote from OP above....

+++ The Command and Control Function of the Phoenix isn't something that I came up with.  Reading other threads (numerous actually) in other forums ... you'll see that there is a lot of news about the CC function for the Phoenix.  I even think Ben mentions it in Reverse the Verse...

Besides an Aquila fits the same C&C upgrade and would be a lot more effective due to better sensors.

Phoenix is an luxury craft, there`s probably not much that could change that.

And thats okay, you pay for Bling Bling and an exclusive ship, you get more Bling Bling than you can handle
and a ship thats problably good for nothing else.

Okay, 2 Turrets....but we don`t have any specifications on the Needlers. They could fire in beautiful rainbowcolours.
The snub-boat(I don`t write fighter, because it will be none) will look beautiful but nothing else.

And the Car.....Chicks love the Car.

Don`t expect more than a sports-Buggy.

And thats also totally OK, because ist a Fun-Ship and serves no other purpurse except showing how sweet life can be.

No space superority ship. Because we have the Andromeda for it.

I think the Phoenix will have its place in the verse. That place being VIP transport and status symbol. Sure you will be able to upgrade it to perform any task you desire but those will be the niche that it fills. I'm confident that all Connie variants will fulfill the C2 role equally with the expansion station.

Apparently an error was made with some of the new Connie stats - the Phoenix has just been updated and it's 4x TR7's have now been replaced with 4x TR5's (max).

I noticed that as well. Lots of rage going on at the official forums over it but I don't see why. Phoenix still comes stock with better armament, larger powerplant, larger max powerplant, larger shield and the point defense weapons. It just now has a more realistic size of primary thrusters. Plus all ship stats are subject to change. A lot can happen between now and release.

You raise many good points...

I don't own a Phoenix, so I'm not really bothered by this news (I opted for the Taurus), but I guess those people raging are just frustrated that the wrong info was posted in the release.

True but it was stated that the ship stats was wrong so go off of the brochure. It does make for some interesting reading though! [emoji48]

Agreed! I do feel sorry for some of the people on the forums though. My approach with ship purchases is: buy the "feel" of the ship. Don't buy one for a single stat, but buy it because of what it's purpose will be and the general idea behind it. All stats can change, but very rarely has the entire purpose of a ship changed.

Command and Control Questions - see this Quote from the Phoenix's Brochure + Ben's comments (in a number of places but in Reverse the Verse it is 14m into the vid)....

Chariot of the

gods

The true core of any ship is the command center. The Constellation Phoenix starts with a primary operator seat designed by Gallo & Frost. UltraRez displays provide crystal clear display elements from a variety of perspectives as well as efficient touchscreen interfaces.

Want more? Every Constellation is prefitted for an expansion station — you can choose and purchase from our upcoming range of options, including command, exploration and entertainment.

Command Center is what every (multicrew)ship has. The quote is simply fluff.

Its nice to have a massage function in your captains-chair, but this doesn`t elevate the Phoenix over other Constellations

if it comes to Command & Control Functions.

I just edited the previous post for Ben's comments but they are all over the place in other forums and interviews.

Command and Control Function will "likely" be dependent on the Fleet's needs (how big it is).  Any Connie can have the Command and Control Function at the Captain's Chair for "small fleet" battles (this is an upgrade identified in the brochure).... but the Phoenix will have better / more advanced displays than the other Connies (also mentioned in the brochure quote).

"Medium Size" fleet Battles you will probably want a "War Room" (not just functions at a command chair).  There has been discussion all over the place about the Theater in the Phoenix acting as a Command and Control - Lecture Screen for the Cushy chairs in front but also for the War Room Conference Table.  This is where you will have meetings with other Commanders face to face (so secure information isn't decrypted over broadcasts to other ships).  Likewise you can use it as a Mission Briefing Room.  I then speculated that the solid island in the middle of the skylight could be used to project a 3d Holo Sphere (if the Theater Screen is only 2d - but it can also probably project 3d).

"Large Size" fleet Battles you will probably want an even Larger "War Room"... that you would find on an Idris.  The only ships CIG has produced to date that are dedicated Command and Control Ships are Phoenix and the Idris (for medium to large fleet battles).  For small Fleet Battles you could consider the Hornet Tracker as being a dedicated Command and Control Ship (or used to supplement C&C for the Phoenix and Idris).  Other larger ships will perform C&C functions will be the Javelin, Panther and Bengal (+ the Battle Cruiser that Dwarfs the Bengal Carrier - yet to be revealed - but leaked).  The advantage the Frigate size ships and larger have over the Phoenix is that the Phoenix will need to rely on Hornet Trackers for extending sensor range... but if you want to you could swap out the top Class 5 Turret on the Phoenix with the Sensor Array from the Aquila since this is a Hardpoint swap (and Ben mentions you can do this in Reverse the Verse) <<<--- But if you are bringing and using the Phoenix in the battle for its weapons you'll want to rely on Hornet Trackers to supplement your scans.

You realize that the Phoenix larger power plant is useless right?

All that extra power goes into heating the fricking hottub and into the forcefield that keeps the water from sloshing out when you are evading pirates. Even more power is drawn by the extensive filtering system which will be required to remove all the ... eh .... impurities from the water after you done enjoying yourself with those 5 space chicks. :frogout:  ;)
