If so I need to make a spectrum post so people will stop freaking out

Disco Lando just restated this on Mitauchi's Space Bro Show.  Everyone will get the opportunity to get one after finishing SQ42.  When asked if it will have LTI, Disco went on to reiterate insurance will be cheap and a 2 second button click to renew for another 6 months.

Well it looks like I won't need to buy a heavy fighter after all. I'll just buy this one with the cash I earn with my other ships once the game launches. I usually prefer heavy/medium fighters in these games and I really like the looks of the F8. I guess the rest of purchases till launch will be T&I ships :)

Well, anyone who actually beats it and forks out the UEC.  Hopefully it's not cheap.

Yeah wouldn't it be a real PITA if you could get that F8 after like 2 days of grinding and people paid 100's of $ for ships that are less capable before launch ;) I kinda hope you would need several weeks of gameplay to afford an F8 and months for a Carrack/Reclaimer but I suspect CIG will make ships cheaper than we think so shallow people don't lose interest too quickly ;) I suspect everyone can afford a Polaris after a month of play ......

Time to trade in your fighters and get some ships that make money so you can afford one of these puppies right after the start of the PU ;) I still think it's a silly idea by CIG: allow people to buy the arguably best/most modern fighter in the game right of the bat. We can only hope that it will be really expensive so not everyone will be flying an F8 after the 1st week (although it would improve our chances in Operation Pitchfork if they would postpone it till everyone has their F8 ;) )

It's been said a lot that if you take the monetary value of the ships and multiply that by 3-4x, that's roughly the cost scale they're going for in the PU. Which means the larger and/or more expensive the ship is, the more the cost is going to scale up.

I'm not quite sure what you mean there Donut, I doubt you mean $ value x 3-4 = UEC value because that would be waaay too low? You mean $ value x 3000-4000 right? Still that figure doesn't mean much unless we know how much money we can earn per hour. I haven't done any trading in 3.0 but I hear there are already several millionaires. Having a nice missile and weapon loadout on a nice ship will cost you at least 25K (which you lose everytime your ship gets destroyed) so I doubt our income will be less than 25k per day which means (if we set an arbitrary price of 300$ and 1.000.000,- UEC on an F8) that it will never take more than 40 days to save for a F8 (or a Carrack/Reclaimer/etc.). I think a good trader that makes use of escorts in Imperium will probably be making at least 100k per day (what do you think?).

That's the idea CIG has because it would be much easier to just earn UEC than buying it. Your typical Aurora will cost on average 60-80,000 UEC. Which I have no problem with this, because most of us would be able to earn 20K UEC in a 3-4hr play session, and of course it would scale, but so would cost of maintenance so that's their plan of balancing.

I think you are on to something with the cost of maintenance being the balancing factor. I feel like the initial costs of ships is going to be small relative to insurance and upkeep of say an entire ship of grade A or B military components.

Chris has talked about pricing. Some of the bigger ships you might need help to buy. So you could be talking 20,000,000 UEC for a F8.

Can't wait to fly this baby and melt my Super Hornet (since I get the F8 with the Wing Commander Pledge level) :)

The high poly and detail modeling phase is complete on the F8 Lightning, and the team have moved on to getting it flight-prep ready. The internal damage has been completed and work on LODs are next. Then they will concentrate on the last polish and efficiency pass before creating marketing material for the ship reveal.

This image shows why Anvil modified the base model of the Hornet F7c (notice the hull / armor elements protecting the cockpit , thrusters and other vital systems from the Vanduul ramming attacks (with their blades)

I am going to cry when and IF they sell the F8.  ????WHY????

Because this is going to be sold like the Phoenix.  It's gong to be the "Golden Goose," sold with a HUGE "military" tax and priced above what we now find to be normal price to limit the quantity out there.  $350 like the Glaive at least.  And this is THE ONE fighter I would buy no matter what the price.  :(  The addiction is real.  :D

I WISH WISH WISH they had put a small little living space internally so it could compete with the VG.

I think that CIG selling the Star Citizen equivalent of the TIE Defender will spark outrage. Yknow, as much as selling the most elite exclusive fighter in the game should. And I think they realize that. No worries :)

Yeah they only give it away for "free" to people that spend an arm and a leg on a video game ;)

I thought everybody had the chance to buy a F8 in game if he completed some part of SQ42? I'll just save up for it in game (unless they sell it for $200 then I'm all over it like stink on shit  )

Ummm F8C will be purchasable ingame when it's released as afaik

There will likely be a caveat to purchasing it in game just like there will be a caveat for getting the Idris-M ....and you are going to need to complete S42 at a bare minimum and a high reputation with the UEE.  Ben lesnick also said that you're going to need to complete a mission to get the Idris-M upgrade ...Beyond completing Squadron 42..... so I wouldn't be surprised if that is required also for getting the f8 lightning.

I doubt CIG will sell the F8 -- at least not any time soon. In the lore, the F7A Hornet was a military-only starfighter for decades, until Anvil developed the F7C version and it was highly successful. I predict that the F8 Lightning will follow a similar life cycle but on a more compressed time scale. According to the lore, the F8 is being field tested and certain squadrons are having their older fighters retired and replaced with Lightnings. Supposedly we can fly the F8 in the Squadron 42 campaign -- although it's unclear if it will be in Episode 1, or if they're saving it for 2 or 3. (The Gladius seems to be the primary fighter of SQ42 E1 because CIG said the vertical slice shown in December was approx. midway through Episode 1's campaign.)

Regardless, the F8 will gradually spread throughout the UEE military, presumably as the Vanduul threat ramps up. By the time all 3 episodes of SQ42 have been released, the F8 will have been established in-universe and it won't seem like an unbeatable uber-fighter. At that time, CIG will probably make the F8C purchasable, but I expect by then the Pledge Store will be permanently closed and ships can only be purchased with UECs. I expect that players will also need to complete the SQ42 campaign, maintain a high UEE faction rating, and probably complete a long and challenging UEE quest line to unlock the privilege to buy the F8C.

As for the F8A Lightning, like the F7A Hornet, I predict that it will only become available to purchase if Star Citizen has persisted long enough (5-10 years) that it makes sense for the UEE military to retire the F7A and/or F8A and sell them as military surplus, because that's what the UEE did with the Retaliator. Years from now, after SQ42 and Star Citizen have been released and hopefully have been commercially successful, CIG will presumably develop a sequel to Squadron 42, which will feature countless new military starfighters, and that's when the retired F7A and F8A will become available in the PU.

In conclusion, I don't believe that CIG is going to sell the F8 for a premium price and/or limited numbers, like the Constellation Phoenix or Esperia Glaive. They've kept their promise about not selling the F7A -- despite backers desperately wanting it -- so I think CIG will keep their promise not to sell the F8 Lightning as a pledge ship.

I agree and good post :)  I am happy about getting one as part of the Wing Commander pledge level and think you should get the gold one at $15k but apparently it is $27k...
