Pinto
Hello, I'm trying to find out what would be the best freelancer to buy, the purposes for this ship will be most likely (since is the positions I would want to join) for Trade & Industry; Diplomacy (maybe Exploration). The Freelancer MAX I don't think it is a good idea since, on its own it would be difficult to defend, but on the other side it has a massive cargo hold (compared to the other Freelancers). The DUR sacrifices 20t of cargo hold, I'm ok with this because it doesn't make you stop for fuel so often and because (if I'm not wrong) it is better equipped at the beginning. The normal Freelancer was my first option (since I didn't know of the others, at the time). As for the MIS it isn't for sale... My question is, of the 3 available which do you think suits me better or do you have other suggestions? (Note: I don't have the game yet and wil not buy another pledge or ship until the game releases) Regards, Pinto PS: If everything goes well the purchase is going to happen on Monday. Wyvyrias
I still think the Avenger could be a good choice. By-Jokese
Morgenroete
Out of the 3 I'll go with MAX. MAX still come with defensive weaponry and you'll have no problem to find escort fighters if you're our fleet member. Next choice will be DUR for it's superior exploratory ability if you're more toward exploration. Just go with whatever you like most.
oneoff
Honestly the only armament missing from the Max is additional missiles, so it wont be that much of drop as a specialized transport either way is going to have difficulty in defense. And there will be plenty of combat guys wanting to run escort so I would go with the Max(its what I went with) I think the added cargo and extra thrusters are worth missing out on a few missiles. Plus the Max looks better! Oh and I should add, If you pick the Max first and don't like the look/feel of it in the hangar you can always melt it down and pick up the DUR or the stock 'lancer since the Max is the most expensive. CC-Corp
if your not worried about the loss of cargo go with the dur, better range, makes it so you can go that extra mile Sparkie, Overlord and By-Jokese
Pinto
Ok, Shahale you convinced me. Is it worth to get the Arena Commander pass? Sparkie
oneoff
I you want to fly any yes. Just remember you can't fly the freelancer yet. You will get a trainer to be able to do some flying. Which I think is the hornet trainer.
Morgenroete
Ok, Shahale you convinced me. Is it worth to get the Arena Commander pass? It's still very buggy....probably wait until 12.5, which is due very soon. But $5 pass is not that much anyway.
Pinto
But $5 pass is not that much anyway. you're right, but if it isn't worth it it's $5 more for my next ship... does anyone know when the next module if due for release?

I really want to play this game (now ), but of course I will love it even more when is out and finished.
Gremlich
In light of the OP's considerations about the Freelancer, his best option for a Freelancer is a Constellation or the Idris. Anybody that ventures out alone is looking for trouble. At least with a wingman, any Freelancer is appropriate.
BrutusTheCat
Also remember all these variants are just the starting configs, and the extent of how much can be customized in the pu is still to be determined. So will we be able to add hard points to the max at the cost of cargo space to take advantage of those 4 engine who knows?

VoA
CIG quote Wondering why the Freelancer seems light on cargo space compared to other cargo ships? Maybe that’s because it has the best cargo shielding in the business. What does that mean? Your cargo is harder to scan, and it’s also better protected against being damaged when things get a little rough out there. Skorpz
Does that 4 engines means more speed but less distant?....I still can't decide for which upgrade to use.
Gremlich
4 engines means more power to move the additional weight of the cargo the MAX is capable of carrying. Sparkie
Sparkie
Smiles just added a Freelancer MIS to my mini-fleet so now I can help pull some escort missions as well! Smiles! R3dac73d
I have a hornet pledge atm, I didn't know that you'd get a trainer hornet with the DUR other wise I might've just gone with the freelancer, good to know. Thought you needed to buy the ship to pilot in AC. Am I understanding this correctly?
Pinto
@R3dac73d If you buy a ship of single crew you can use your ship to enter AC, but in the case of buying a multiple ship crew (like my Freelancer, 2 crew) they lend you a training ship so that you don't get excluded just because you preferred to buy a bigger ship.
