T3rran
So, here's a wild thought. If ship loss turns out to be a huge deal, we won't want to be losing our craft. For the new player just starting out versus all the wingnuts who have a history dating back to X-wing vs. Tie-fighter, Wing Commander, Freelancer, etc. they're going to get crushed, and spend more time kicking the station dirt. That's not very fun, especially when you know the next time you leave, you're still bottom of the food chain. So, to avoid that, why not make a station simulator? A risk-free training area where you can practice against other players. Of course, it's not a perfect recreation. The simulator allows you to import one of your available craft to fight in, and you simply fight it out with a random player, or select a player from a list. Alternatively, you can play with a simulator ship that's been premade, or customize a ship for use within the simulator. But playing with stuff that's not yours cost money due to copy rights. This would achieve a multitude of things: 1. A way to safely hone your piloting skills against a random player, like you would in a real confrontation (to an extent.) 2. A good way to kill time if you're waiting on a cargo run to start, or just have a little bit of time to burn. 3. A way to test new upgrades, chassis', weapons, and gear without having to trade in your most recent haul for it. 4. Allow training for those in a company or guild by the respective officers/leaders/veterans. 5. Potential tournaments for cash and prizes, hosted by a crew/guild, or even by SC. What do you all think? Puls0nic
I like it, it's a good idea and makes sense. Kind of like a Quick match type, but via ingame.
Maverick
Reminds me of "Inception". We have to go deeper...^^ Trying out new combinations of upgrades to your ship is a very important part. A simulator would be a good idea.
drogan
it's a great idea but I was thinking, you will be able to play star citizen on a different server, one of your own, with friends or stuff, so couldn't you set up a server like that and test/train in there and then put the things you've learned into the persistent "real" universe
Puls0nic
Technically you could. Nothing would carry over though.

Big fish, little pond scenario. Whereas in the persistent universe, you have a wider variety of players of various skills you can fly against. Grue
A fantastic idea. Similar things have been suggested on the main forums. But to have the ability, within the main game, to test out ship configurations, new hulls, new tactics, and the like would be a great tool. Especially if squadrons can fly together to practice for their own defense, or mercenary/pirate actions.
Cowboy10uk
Reminds me of the Simulator trainer, that we had in the station in wing commander. I agree it was a great way of honing your skills. Fingers crossed as CR, has put it into is games before, he will do it again here. After all, there would be room for a simulator room on the carrier, just so the pilots could keep the skills up while on transit. elfindreams
I will have to dig up the link but this has already been confirmed as being in game.
Overseer
A simulator within a simulator... Need I say more? In all seriousness this is a fantastic idea, one that i'm sure could be integrated into the game quite nicely.
