    Ritter

I am Ritter and I am reporting for duty. My base pledge is Rear Admiral, but I've spent enough on ships and extra things to bump me up to Vice Admiral. I have a Constellation from the pledge, a 300i, Hornet and the Cutlass. I am a space combat sim veteran, and pleased to be in the company of many others. I am excited that a modern space combat sim is being made, but especially excited that there isn't some publisher pushing out an inferior product so long as it hits the shelves a few weeks sooner. My first taste of flight combat was probably Zaxxon, a game I played as a child on my grandfather's Apple IIe. The first 3-D flight combat game that I played was the old Sierra game of Red Baron sometime around 1990. The idea that I could earn medals, fight for either the British or the Germans, and feel as though I was really contributing to (or at least affected by) the war really hooked me. Red Baron was a natural transition to X-Wing in '93 and then my life was changed forever in '94 when TIE Fighter was released. Suddenly, I was the bad guy, except I wasn't really bad. I was policing the space lanes, searching for contraband and terrorists. My eyes were opened and I realized that the average Joe Imperial is a good guy and little more than a cop in a really sexy uniform. Sure, there was corruption and the occasional atrocity, but what government doesn't have some bones in its closet? Besides, my own service was nothing but honorable and glorious. From that point forward, I had forever joined the Imperial Navy in my heart. Throughout the years, I played many other space combat sims including Descent, X-Wing vs TIE Fighter, Tachyon: The Fringe, X-Wing Alliance, and X3 Reunion. With each game, I have grown increasingly interested in space combat sims and learned something from each one. Each molded and shaped me until I was ready for Star Wars Galaxies: Jump To Lightspeed. I, being a Star Wars nerd, played SWG since August 2003 as a hardcore Imperial. When JTL was released, it was as though my time to shine had come. I was a member of a well-respected Imperial guild on Wanderhome named Veni Vidi Vici in the final days before the Combat Upgrade sent most of my guildmates packing. I had gained a reputation, even then, as an ace fighter pilot. One of our allies, Nabubu Imperial Front, took me in and I quickly became the guild's squadron leader. I trained many of the members of that guild to become better pilots and recruited some of the best on the server. At our peak, I commanded 21 brave pilots. On our server, the Rebels far outnumbered Imperials in most battles. We could not contribute much on the ground, but I am proud to say that we held our own in the skies. At some point, probably after I became the guild leader of NIF, our squadron teamed up with members of other guilds to form Imperial Task Force "Storm". We organized battles with 'friendy' rebel forces and great fun was had by all. I still fondly remember fighting in the battles, making friends and penning speeches to rally our troops. Those days were long ago and they say that absence makes the heart grow fonder. I have not yet joined a squadron in Star Citizen, but wherever I go, I intend to make my mark.
  3. So I never had played Wing Commander or even heard of it until I started hearing about Star Citizen. I decided to look it up and see what that game was when I noticed it looked very similar to X-Wing and Tie Fighter by Lucas Arts. Even during his speech Chris Roberts mentioned that you would be able to devert energy from your shields to your engines to gain more speed for example. This was something you did in X-Wing/Tie Fighter. So my question's if anyone knows: -Did Chris Roberts develop both of them? -What was released first Wing Commander or X-Wing/Tie Fighter?
