I wanted to share a blog I've made about the game Star Citizen. PROJECT MAELSTROM It draws upon my experiences growing up of wanting to be a pilot. Here is the first entry: 01 MHS Let me try and paint a picture of my childhood. I had two droids. R2-D2 and C-3PO were put to work in the Moister-Farm that was the Restaurant that my parents owned. This lower-middle class dry and desolate desert world was Tatooine. By R2-D2 I mean mum. And by C-3PO I mean dad. Mum was short, a little plump, resourceful, and always emotionally repairing things. Dad was tall, prone to incessant worry and anxiety; plus had a golden vanity. C-3PO would get animated about many things, but mostly the conditions on Tatooine. He would sometimes whack R2-D2 on the dome. But this I mean that my mum and dad frequently argued. Just like Luke, caught in a somber moment of reflection as he took in the binary sunset [ 00 ], I pondered my own fate in universe, and also felt my dreams of escaping the lower-middle class to a better life quashed by negative circumstance. Why do I call my parents droids? Well, because in mind they had been programmed by the culture that they grew up in. C-3PO was adamant to push me up the social ladder. R2-D2 projected on me the idea of marrying a nice, homely Sinhalese girl. Both of them were adamant that I achieve this through the tools of a grand Education. And eons before I had even finished grade 2 of primary school it had become their plan that I get admitted into Melbourne High School, or MHS. ‘Gedera’ was the name of my parent’s Sri Lankan restaurant located in East Caulfield, just near the railway station and the precincts of the Monash University campus. The name meant ‘home’ in Sinhalese, and was selected by my parent’s to convey the authentic, homestyle nature of the cuisine they dished up. I had a room at the back with desk and a bed. The room doubled as a storage room. By storage room, I mean it was also were they kept the bags of onions, drums of cooking oil,, buckets of salt and containers of ghee. The ochre, worn out carpet was splattered with stains, and the windows were reinforced with metal security bars. Apart from my desk there was a bed and a small TV. This was to be the cell that spiraled me into madness. But more on that later. In 2001 I was in year 8 at Salesian College in Chadstone. My first two years of high school had been positive in that I was fitting in, reaping good marks and doing a bunch of extra-curricular activities. But this all changed one afternoon after school. I remember sitting in the back of the restaurant, munching on some Red Rooster, when my father, smiling exuberantly; which was rare; waltzed in with an envelope. I fiddled with it, noticing that it had been addressed to me, but was already opened. Inside it contained a letter of congratulations for being accepted into Melbourne High School. On my first day at MHS I distinctly remember getting of the train at South Yarra walking up the wrong direction up the platform. When I did eventually find my way to the ‘Castle on the Hill’ I huddled with everyone else at the front doors. Four years later in November 2005, after completing my VCE, it was through the same doors that I exited. But what exactly do I remember of my time there? I remember going on the AIRTC camps in year 9. I remember vomiting in the toilets out of anxiety just before my very first exam. I remember walking past the homeless man outside St Yarra station playing the ukulele every morning before school. I remember the assemblies with the distinguished guests and all the singing. I remember feeling quite jaded and jealous at all the honors bestowed upon fellow students in the form on academic awards and school colors. I remember playing Tetris on my TI-84. I remember getting detention for failing a Japanese SAC one time. I remember getting 98.00 for my ENTER Score at the end of it all. I remember wanting to be a pilot. In year 12 I even applied for a scholarship granted my the company Mobile. I got to the final interview stage; I even had a test flight in a light commercial Cessna with an instructor as part of the application process. It was my first time at the hands of a real aircraft, and I even managed to land the aircraft at one of the runway strips at Moorabbin Airport via the instructions of the instructor. VCE was a pressure cooker. Everyone told me that was good thing. It would sharpen my focus, they said. But what no one recognized the very real emotional cost of being put under intense pressure to study under the backdrop of a dysfunctional family life. I was very much troubled inside, and in 2010, in circumstance that I will detail a later point, I tried to kill myself by swallowing 80 Seroquel tablets. I woke in a hospital ICU. The thing that hurt the most was hearing C-3PO completely deny to a doctor that he had placed any pressure on me. And as R2-D2 sat by my ICU bed working away at repairing by feeding me a packet of Pad Thai she had brought from my favorite Thai restaurant in an effort to cheer me up, I felt like singing the school motto ‘Honor the Work’ [ 01 ]. It felt like it was a very twisted joke. I am curious to know what this community thinks.

Howdy everyone, As many of you may remember, Imperium and friends previously became fairly heavily involved in the Life is Feudal MMO upon its early access release. With our superior numbers we established one hell of a defensible base, set up production lines for all needed materials like food, weapons, and armor, and used our diplomatic skills to carve out a respectable sphere of influence, at one point nearly controlling an entire half of a server grid between ourselves and our vassals. We were involved in many wars, fielded a well-known cavalry corps, and participated in great battles like this regularly: Taking a Chinese base with no survivors While the going was great while the group was still active, slowly people began to part ways with Life is Feudal for a variety of reasons, and the group was whittled down to a shadow of its former self. Today, Imperium's presence in Life is Feudal MMO is an odd one, with a core group 3-4 active players essentially focused on the sole objective of maintaining a base intended to house dozens of people. We have stockpiles of weapons but no-one to use them, piles of armor but no-one to wear it. We've essentially got the fruits of countless hours of grinding but nobody around to actually use them. In light of this, I've decided to put together the following: On Friday night (5/23/2018) at 7:30 EST, I'll be gathering as many people as possible and we'll set out on a great expedition from the base. A ton of the older guilds around during LiF MMOs heyday have more or less died out, and left what are essentially ruins behind. I intend for us to explore around the map (particularly the eastern island and northern areas, which are the most war-torn), looting abandoned settlements as we find them and killing hostile players if we encounter them. If we manage to say alive until 10PM EST, judgement hour will begin and various castles will become vulnerable to raids, and if we find a suitable target in our explorations we may as well launch a raid as well. All needed supplies will be provided for those who show up, everything from weapons to horses to potions to siege equipment, and the responsibility you will have is ensuring your character stats are high enough to use the weapons and armor you request. We've already got around 8-10 players intending to show up, and anyone else interested is obviously encouraged to give it a try. If you're a new player, you get LiF:YO (and thus MMO access) on g2a for around $10 now, and if you're an old player looking to come back, I can't think of a better time where you'll be able to jump right into the best parts of the game, skipping the grinding aspects. I think it'll be a great time, and I hope to see you there!

Not sure if this is the right subforum but I just wanted to share my new gaming PC that I've built. After my old one was really showing its age (i5 2500k with 8GB RAM) and having issues where it would randomly decide to shut down on me and forcing me onto a crummy laptop for a week I felt it was time to get something new which would also provide me with the means to actually play Squadron 42 and Star Citizen at some point. Here is the list of components that I used and some pictures ASUS ROG MAXIMUS X CODE Intel Core i7-8700K Corsair Hydro H115i Corsair 32GB DDR4-3000 Vengeance RGB (2x16) ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 Ti OC Strix Gaming 11G Corsair Carbide Clear 400C White Corsair AX860 PSU Samsung 960 PRO M.2 512GB SSD Corsair ML120 Premium - Twin Pack Corsair ML140 Premium - Twin Pack Picture of all the components prior to unpacking and assembly It was a tight fit due to the midsize case but I was able to fit everything properly. I replaced the original casefan and the ones for the radiator with the ML fans. And here's the end-result! I wanted to go with an Aegis Avenger theme and I believe it worked out great I got the Aegis decal from a site called Redbubble

Hey guys, I know there is a lot of knowledge to tap into here in the SCB forums. I have had a few conversations with close friends about their opinions and knowledge on various current hardware and want to continue hearing what I should aim for. This is all for a new rig. I am going with a budget of $4,000 for the tower. This is going to be a gaming computer, so I am looking for high performance and graphics integrity. The tower is going to support three 30" 2k monitors (I don't think 4k is in reasonable price range yet). Case: Still looking - want something that is visually appealing (show off cooling/components) CPU: i9 or Ryzen? (Friends suggest the Threadrippers) Discussions I saw here on SCB say i7 is good for SC - I am still learning what the differences are between all options RAM: 32GB or I just may go to 64GB because reasons (memory is so cheap!) SSD: Samsung M.2 2TB (Samsung 960 PRO?) - looking to have more M.2s connected in the future, maybe one (smaller) that is SC only HDD: Looking for a mass storage (maybe 10TB) array in a RAID parity, can come later (months) after initial build Motherboard: Looking at a GIGABYTE one - something that gives me the versatility I am looking for GFX: 1080Ti (x2) - looking for 2k at 100+ FPS (3 monitors) Cooling: I want to go all liquid cooling, maybe multiple circuits. PSU: I have not looked into a power supply yet, waiting to see what the rest demands with room to add more stuff later. Again, this is early in developing what I want and I am always welcome to suggestions. I want this thing to be upgradeable, particularly to add to it (M.2 SSDs and HDs for example). I already have keyboard, mouse, HOTAS, and G27 to plug into this thing. Looking forward to see what the minds in SCB present!

Greetings everyone. A game that I've been keeping an eye on for a while has just entered Kickstarter and I figured I'd share it with you all. Seeing how some of us here were quite excited to play Ark, etc. it isn't a too far stretch. Saurian is an Open-World Survival Game with a high focus on being scientifically accurate and up to date. They just started their Kickstarter today and if everything works out well, everyone should be able to play January 2017. The game is based around dinosaurs. Other than Ark and similar games however, it is set in a true location and recreates the Flora and Fauna accurately based on the fossil record. The players will take over a dinosaur and you can play him through the different growth stages, from Hatchling to Adult. Anyway, I'll give you all the Kickstarter Link to check things out yourself: Saurian

So as it turns out, there's a group of developers of an Indie company working on a remastered version of Knights of the Old Republic in the UE4. There's an articule about it on Kotaku and this is the website for the Remaster. I have a lot of fond, great memories of KOTOR and frequently returned to the game even way past it's original release. Therefore, I am happy to see something like this, although it is always questionable whether a fan based remaster will truly be finished properly. I do think it's still fairly early in development but the pictures they put out sure look interesting. Anyone else that gets excited about these news or a potential Remaster by Disney like it was rumored last year?

I have a verified paypal account and if you are interested then let me know! These monitors are on sale on other media as well so if you are interested then let me know ASAP and we can come to an agreement! Update: Both monitors sold!

Hey all, After the last few days of processing the events since The Escapist article, I decided to formulate my own thoughts toward this whole situation into an article format of my own. I have included my real name because I have nothing to hide, and these thoughts are my own. While I have no problems with people commenting on this post, I would ask people keep it civil so I don't have to end up moderating my own thread. Please note that the target for this article is not people on this board, but the overall world-wide gaming community that has given WAY too much power to gaming news blogs/sites in the last decade. Disclaimer: I am writing this as a Star Citizen backer, not as an Imperium FC or SCB Admin, and my views are in no way reflecting the policies or views of SCB or other Admins and Moderators of the SCB and Imperium sites and forums.

Intel INTC +0.41% and Micron jointly announced a brand new memory technology today, dubbed 3D XPoint (Cross Point) memory. 3D XPoint is fundamentally a new class of memory, the first to be introduced in many years. With current architectures, the system memory and storage are usually two separate subsystems. Take a PC for example. In most PCs, the storage attaches to the system via the SATA interface or PCIExpress EXPR +0.00% and system memory resides in its own slots, connected directly to the memory controller in a CPU. They’re two separate entities, that each require their own interconnects, slots, ports, etc. And they operate at vastly different performance levels. 3D XPoint technology, however, because it is so fast and durable (at least according to Intel INTC +3.45%and Micron), could be used to replace both system memory and storage with a single repository, attached to the processor via a much wider bandwidth interface—or perhaps reside right even on the same die down the road. This type of configuration could not only enable much smaller form factors and simplify manufacturing, but be much more powerful and responsive too. Imagine an ultra-small form factor PC, for example, that can instantly power up and start off from the exact point it was shut down, with hundreds of gigabytes of high-speed memory, that’s capable of transferring data at many gigabytes or even terabytes per second. And that the data can be accessed in Nano-second scales. System memory limitation could essentially be eliminated and there would be no latency associated with copying data from a relatively slow storage device into system memory. sources : http://www.forbes.com/sites/marcochiappetta/2015/07/28/3d-xpoint-memory-technology-could-usher-in-a-new-golden-age-of-electronics/ http://www.forbes.com/sites/davealtavilla/2015/07/28/intel-and-micron-jointly-announce-game-changing-3d-xpoint-memory-technology/ We’re talking about game changing stuff here. 3D XPoint memory could usher in entire new system architectures in not only the consumer space, but in the enterprise as well. As it stands now, Big Data analytics can use all of the storage capacity and latency reduction available. Enormous amounts of time are spent copying data to and from storage to memory. Should Intel’s and Micron’s 1000x performance improvement claims ring true, big data analytics could get an unprecedented shot in the arm. The potential applications for the technology is so wide reaching and disruptive, it’s difficult to imagine all of the things it could enable moving forward at this early juncture. If you follow technology closely though, today’s announcement is about as exciting as it gets.

How Do You Know When You Have Been Gaming Too Much? WHEN YOU: We all have a story for this topic. I will kick it off with a few. WHEN YOU: Try to turn the desktop view by clicking on the mouse and shifting left or right. WHEN YOU: Enable the Team Speak hot key to answer your wife standing behind you. WHEN YOU: Actually SAY lol out loud in response to a funny. WHEN YOU: Try to decide if a mini fridge will fit under your desk. WHEN YOU: THINK spacebar as you approach a high curb. Give us your thoughts (or lack of) where Gaming becomes mingled with Real Life. - DRUM out

Since we're fast approaching E3 2015, I was wondering if there are any plans by people. I know I watch all the live streams every year and try to get as much info in as fast as possible. I didn't even let the time differences stop me whenever I was in Germany and not in the US still. Now having moved back to Germany, I'll do the same once more. So, perhaps gather with some people on TS, set up an E3 Channel for the duration of E3 and then people can hop in there during the livestreams and talk about it?

Hey guys! I wanted to start this topic to help anyone looking for a compatible laptop (that doesn't break the bank) for Star Citizen. After months of research I found the Lenovo y510p. Depending on the model it comes with an i5 or i7, GeForce 750m or 755m, and is able to use a second GPU by way of the "UltraBay" for SLi. I did a quick (no audio) benchmark in Star Citizen with the i7, 755m version. I only had the one card in it when I did this. When I get the add-on card I'll do another benchmark, and when DFM drops expect another video or 10 . I posted pictures of it in the "Post your rig" topic, but figured that it wouldn't be a bad idea to start a new topic for laptops that can play. In my research there wasn't much information, so I kind of took a leap in the dark on this, but it works amazingly well! Cheers everyone! Ohh, and here's the YouTube link. Edit 1: I've got a new video up for 720p on low settings. These are the settings I find most playable. There will be another video coming soon with 720 and 1080 in their various graphics qualities. I just wanted to get something more polished up for now. Cheers! Edit 2: Link for the SSD fix and partition configurations can be found here. The SSD is not mounted from the factory, so you can't actually install anything on it until you do this. Cheers!

Has anyone else read this? It is a wonderful book if you haven't and I HIGHLY recomend it. A great read- especially for old school gamers as the entire book is filled with 80's and 90's video game and movie trivia. Obviously written by "one of us"... What is funny (without spoiling the book) is that the Robert's vision and how this is playing out is almost exactly like the premise book. A game that is meant to be completely immersive, and takes place in a huge space sim enviorment. Made to be free (after a small initial purchase) and you can really do almost anything you want. Even the citizenship role plays in there and alot more. An exteremely interesting read, especially if you are a fan of space sim/ MMO/ MMORPGs or even just games in general. -Yoshi Here's a link to the books site if anyone is interested. http://www.readyplayerone.com/
