Recently, i came across a thread where one member mentioned that another was "Gaming the System". The other member in this thread took some offense to this comment and not really being aware of what its true meaning was, i decided to google it. Wikipedia's definition of Gaming the System; Gaming the system (also referred to as gaming the rules, bending the rules, abusing the system, cheating the system, milking the system, playing the system, or working the system) can be defined as using the rules and procedures meant to protect a system in order, instead, to manipulate the system for a desired outcome.[1] According to James Rieley, the American banker, structures in companies and organizations (both explicit and implicit policies and procedures, stated goals, and mental models) drive behaviors that are detrimental to long-term organizational success and stifle competition.[2] For some,[who?] error is the essence of gaming the system, in which a gap in protocol allows for errant practices that lead to unintended results. So if your a morally sound individual and law abiding citizen you'd read this and say "fuck that", that's not me that's big corporate business, the 1%ers... fuckers... But wait a minute, all definitions such as these, lend themselves to the worst case scenario, eg) the 1%ers who almost collapsed the merician economy... But really, if i told you you could take a certain credit card paired with this loyalty card and this freaken coupon i got in the mail and you'd get a free tank of gas every 6 weeks on average, you'd want to know more because who doesn't want a free tank of gas these days, right! My point being; we all game the system, to some extent and only the truly saintly and/or hypocritical of use don't. weather its a free tank of gas or boosting your initial credits past 150k UEC we are all human and humans like deals and they look to buck the system that keeps us down and most often poor. Also take not, the 150k cap for UEC funds is a relic of those initial days of SC, this cap doesn't take into consideration your package UEC or prevent you from selling ships in game on day 1. I expect this cap to be forgotten come launch time but you wont find any CIG staffer who will answer that question. So you might ask then; how does AstroJak Game the System? Well, i can only speak to this game but i am guilty of purchasing far too many Omega mustang packages and CCU them to Deltas, in the hopes of selling those ships in game for a substantial profit and a dramatic boost to my initial starting UEC. These funds will then help me to kit out my ships or paying for inital cargo. Remember, gaming the system isn't about breaking the law, its about finding weakness within the system in question. At the end of the day, systems are written by policy makers and those systems are only as good as the people who wrote them. Give a policy make the opportunity to ebbed a loophole for his friends and colleges and they will...have...still do but we find them and use them as well. Are we bad for taking the bait? well i'm neither saintly nor consider myself a hypocrite but i do enjoy a free tank of gas every 6 weeks...on average!
