Star Citizen’s fans aren’t shy about offering their help with the project… and we’re always happy to see what you put together! Point of fact: the distinctive Wingman’s Hangar theme was composed by a fan! Matthew Fossa is the man behind the music and we’ve put together a short interview about the piece. He’s also provided a special treat: a live recording of the theme by the Pensacola Orchestra!

Today we’re sharing more of the cool ship art that Star Citizen fans are constantly creating in the Modding forum. Star Citizen will support a wide variety of mods on the player run servers, so keep building your own spacecraft! The “Whiplash” racer seems like it would be a a speedy addition to the game… (Thread) The “Vortex” interceptor has a cool backstory with an awesome in-universe teaser: (Thread) And then Speedbrake is creating a replacement snubfighter/personal transport to be carried aboard the Constellation… we love the visibility! (Thread) Happy Birthday! Ever wanted to eat Chris Roberts’ face? One of our amazing fan guilds, THT, made that possible earlier this month, sending cakes to Chris and Sandi Gardiner for their birthdays! Looks delicious: $10 Million Clarification On Monday, we announced that a fan named Danil Guschin was the one who pushed us over the $10 million mark. On further investigation, we aren’t sure: there were two pledges at exactly the same time and because of how our system works it gave us Danil’s name first… but on reviewing the data, Count-Farat from the Netherlands is just as likely to be the citizen who pledged us over the limit! We will make sure that he also receives one of the first Avenger spacecraft off of the production line. Wingman’s Hangar There’s another episode of Wingman’s Hangar inbound! Check in tomorrow for an exclusive interview with Ron Lajoie plus all the news and features you’ve come to expect. Wingman’s Hangar airs at 11 AM CST (-5 GMT) right here. Due to technical issues with the stream, the Hangar will be uploaded in HD and made available at 11 AM. Users are encouraged to watch together in the Live Chat!

Today’s Fan Spotlight goes to another deserving Star Citizen radio show: the Beyond the Horizon Radio show! It’s professional and entertaining… just the sort of thing we’d expect Star Citizen fans to put together. New episodes air each Saturday at 11 AM CST. If you’re interested in catching up, previous episodes stream during the week! You can listen in here. Hangar Videos As we reported on the last Wingman’s Hangar, the Black Widow Company fan group recently visited the Los Angeles office of Cloud Imperium. They’ve produced a pair of cool videos that include some new footage of the upcoming hangar module. Check them out: http://youtu.be/v5ENztpi5TE Pete Mackay Interview We’ve had several requests from Citizens to see Pete’s “red shirt” interview. This interview was shot early on, before Pete had been hired as a designer and so we opted not to include it with his “Meet” post yesterday… but here it is, for completionists: Wingman’s Hangar Stay tuned, Wingman’s Hangar is coming at you! Check in tomorrow morning at 11 AM (-5 GMT) for an all new episode of the Hangar! Wingman will be talking to Designer Pete Mackay and sharing the latest on Star Citizen’s development. Mobile Wallpapers When Star Citizen designer Pete Mackay saw the concept art for the Tyrol System, he decided it was so cool that he needed to use it as his iPhone wallpaper. He played with the image, added the Star Citizen logo… and we thought the result was impressive enough to share with the community! Pete has turned out versions for a gamut of popular smartphones: [*]iPhone 4 [*]iPhone 5 [*]Lumia 920 [*]Nexus 7 [*]Galaxy S2 Lock [*]Galaxy S3 Splash [*]Galaxy S4 Fan Spotlight We’ve featured Dr. Hawk and the this space before… but if you haven’t been following him lately, you’ll want to check him out again. This past week, the good doctor scored a half-hour interview with Chris Roberts himself! It’s a fascinating look behind Star Citizen’s development that goes into more depth than the average press interview: Wingman’s Hangar It’s almost time for another exciting episode of Wingman’s Hangar! Tune in tomorrow at 11 AM CST (-5 GMT) to hear the latest on Star Citizen straight from Cloud Imperium Games. Wingman will be interviewing network programmer Tom Sawyer and sharing all the week’s happenings from the development team… so don’t miss it!

$9.2 million! Support for the Aurora Sale has been astounding and there are still two days left. Get your Aurora LX or Starter Package while you can. New Concept Art Today we’d like to share some new concept art with you, fresh off the presses! As the team moves to start in-engine production of the star systems discussed during the pledge campaign, our concept artists are rapidly turning out ‘look and feel’ pieces of an increasingly diverse number of locations. We think these two show a good example of how broad the Star Citizen universe is going to be: First up is Tyrol, a red giant bordering Banu territory that is preparing to go supernova. We’re hoping Tyrol ends up being a great place to expand Star Citizen with live events, possibly chronicling tensions between humans and the Banu… or a disaster surrounding the effects of the nova on the inhabited planet. Many of our systems are planned this way, with room to expand and change for future stories after the game goes live. The Tyrol art is by Corentin Chevanne, whose work on Stanton you saw yesterday. And this is Beijing, the third landout city on Earth. Development subscribers got a sneak peak at Beijing in this month’s Jump Point, but this shot has changed radically even since that was published! New York is a good place to buy ships and see the sights, Moscow is a good place for upgrades… and Beijing is the home to Earth’s black market (among other things!) The Beijing art is by Josh Kao, who is working on both Earth and Terra! Fan Spotlight We were honored last week to have forum member Yoshi stop by the office. In addition to being a Star Citizen fan, Yoshi is a professional concert lighting director. He stopped in to see the office and share his technical expertise with us… and he was kind enough to offer the team VIP tickets to the Carrie Underwood concert he was lighting! Yoshi will appear on tomorrow’s Wingman’s Hangar, but we wanted to cut together a longer video about his visit for anyone interested in the more technical aspects of what he does: Wingman’s Hangar Be sure to tune in tomorrow for an all-new Wingman’s Hangar! We’re capping off Aurora sale week with a really big show: Chris Roberts will be on hand to answer your questions and you’ll hear all about Behaviour’s visit to Austin. That plus all the news and entertainment you can handle. Be there at 11 AM CST (-5 GMT)!

This week, we’re celebrating all of Star Citizen’s great fans and reminding you how you can be a part of this great community! There are two “official” ways to chat here at RSI and they’ve both evolved in different ways over the past several months! The Forums The Roberts Space Industries forums are the discussion area of record for the Star Citizen community. If you want to interact with fans, get technical support or have your ideas seen directly by the development team then they’re your one stop shop! Thefan fiction and modding areas are a great way to see how incredibly creative Star Citizen fans are, turning out novels worth of text and 3D ship models that rival the best in the industry. The latest addition is the Ask a Developer area, where the entire Cloud Imperium team takes time each week to answer the questions you pose. Chatroll Meanwhile, there’s always action on the live chat! The Roberts Space Industries chatroll is hopping 24/7, with fans from all around the world popping in to chat about everything from what they expect in Star Citizen to what they had for breakfast. The team from CIG has been known to stop by, too! And like all internet communities, they’re well on their way to establishing some interesting local customs. Just ask Xane, the feathery space raptor… or the Lamp they Call Jayne!: Courtesy of Subtext Wingman’s Hangar Wingman’s Hangar is all new tomorrow morning at 11 AM CST (-6 GMT.) This week you’ll meet Associate Producer Adam Poole and get the latest from the team at CIG.

When the Star Citizen design team sat down to create the specifications for the hangar module, one of the first pieces of information we needed to know was how many ships a hangar would need to hold. During the pledge campaign we sold a dozen different ships. Had anyone been so excited about the game that they’d bought ALL of them? Who had the most ships and how many would we need to fit in their hangar at once? The answer was a genuine shock: one Citizen, named Radd, had acquired a grand total ofFIFTY NINE ships. Suddenly the “59 ship guy” was being spoken of in hushed tones around the office. We were proud that we had such a dedicated fan… but who was he and why did he buy so many ships? Wingman was determined to find out and we recorded the ensuing Skype interview: Wingman’s Hangar Tune in tomorrow at 11 AM CST (-6 GMT) for an all-new Wingman’s Hangar!

It’s time once again to highlight some of the amazing starships the fans in theModding Forumare constructing! This time we’re looking at the unsung heroes of the future Star Citizen world: transports! It takes a special breed to want to command a freighter… but if you can find a good cargo route and fend off pirates, you can become a rich man! Remember, Star Citizen will allow modders to add their own ships for private servers, so it’s entirely possible you’ll fly some of these designs someday! First up is the Galaxy Star Freighter from Mr-Magic. The Galaxy is a heavy lifting transport designed to support merchants in Star Citizen. He envisions it being armed with a pair of “Remmy High Velocity Flak turrets” which fill large areas of space with ballistic ammo. Useful and deadly! Next we have a ship without a name, a Long Range Mercantile vessel fromAvetavoukjian! Look at the incredible amount of detail he’s putting into the ship’s superstructure… that should allow for proper damage modeling someday, and of course an especially realistic interior. Finally, Jayharchitect is creating a luxury transport for VIPs… and it’s one beautiful hull! He explains: “The large canopy up front would house the passengers with an awesome view of stars, the pilot would be up high. When pirates attack or it is entering atmosphere the front blast shields would close, protecting the VIPs from battle!” Wingman’s Hangar Report for duty tomorrow at 11 AM CST (-6 GMT) for the next episode of Wingman’s Hangar! Wingman and the rest of the team are back from GDC and eager to share what they’ve learned. You’ll meet graphics programmer Brendan Jackson and find out what happened this week in Star Citizen’s development. Don’t miss it!

Here at Cloud Imperium Games we’re only just starting to work on the music that will play when you’re fighting it out with the Vanduul in space… but over at the forums a group of fans have been creating their own score of music inspired by Star Citizen for months! They write: What if I told you we’re making a Star Citizen soundtrack to rival any upcoming official one? You’d probably say, “You must be out of your mind.” Or, “Yeeeah, good luck with that buddy.” That sort of reaction would be common. After all, there wouldn’t be many people, if any, who have the ability to match the production level of a master professional who has many years of experience making music for media and video games. There’s no chance that composers such as Michael McCann, Jesper Kyd, or Jeremy Soule could be matched skill-wise by a no-name artists right? Well, I’ll let the music speak for itself. The work they’ve done is pretty impressive! Here’s the evocative main theme, by Caden L Welborn: http://soundcloud.com/caden-l-welborn/star-citizen-opening-main Keep up the great work. We can’t wait to listen to the finished album… and we can’t wait to share the music that’s going to be in the game so you can see how it stacks up! And be sure and tune in tomorrow at 10 AM EST (GMT -5) for a very special episode ofWingman’s Hangar… with a surprise host running the show while Wingman is out of town!

This week we’d like to spotlight some of the wonderful starships being created by fans in the modding forums. Star Citizen will include the ability for fans to import their own ship designs for private servers… and there will be an approval process for adding the best of the best to the full game! First up are a pair of ships from Hazzard65 and Knightsbridge Engineering. The first is the sleak S-Class frigate and the second is the A-Class Personal Transport. Both very cool ships with a distinctive look to them! Next we have the AIB-35 “Gavel” from ePhalanx. This one is in the early stages, but it’s an extremely cool design… complete with an interior! Check it out: Finally, our first Fan Spotlight, the Stribog B has been skinned with textures… and it looks pretty cool! Stay tuned: we’ll be showing off more of the community’s incredible creations in future posts. And check back tomorrow for an all-new Wingman’s Hangar featuring Lead Artist Mark Skelton!

Last week we focused on the two great English-language podcasts run by Star Citizen fan… and now we’re looking abroad. Citizen SpawnHC is the man who organizes Star Traders, a German-language site with a similarly elaborate podcast! Star Traders features a 45-minute podcast discussing the latest from Star Citizen and the community. The second episode, embedded below, even opens with an introduction from Chris Roberts… in German! You can find both episodes here. Fan Spotlight: THANKS! Our incredible fans keep going above and beyond and sending gifts to the CIG Austin office! We’re overwhelmed by your kindness… and we’ll do our best to make a game that deserves this dedicated a fandom. We shot this video thanking you for some of the great gifts that showed up in the last week. Whooptiwoo sent the team to Five Guys: Happy Birthday, Freelancer! Thanks to Citizen Skotty (via The Starport) for noticing that March 4th was the 10th anniversary of Freelancer, Chris Roberts’ last game and a title largely recognized as the last true AAA space sim. We’ll be putting together some special behind-the-screens information about how Freelancer was made for the RSI Museum in the near future! Wingman’s Hangar Be sure and tune in tomorrow at 11 AM CST (GMT-6) for Wingman’s Hangar to learn the latest from the Star Citizen team! VP of Marketing Sandi Gardiner will be on hand to answer Wingman’s questions… you won’t want to miss it!

We’d like to thank everyone for their support during the Citizen Card shipping process. The Shipping Form has now closed and your user information is being sent to the manufacturer and we’ll show you what the finished cards look like as soon as possible! For this week’s Fan Spotlight, we’d like to highlight two fan projects that are already going above and beyond in creating engrossing content! The Star Citizen community are a creative bunch and they’ve already produced several professional quality podcasts about the game that are both entertaining and informative! This week, we’ll look at two of the biggest English-language productions. The first is stArs Oratoria. SO talks about the latest news from Star Citizen, the fan community and discusses how they think the game should work… with the occasional in-universe moment! StArs Oratoria has aired six episodes and you can find the first here or subscribe via iTunes. The second is DrHawk’s Star Citizen FM, which also interviews the fan community and provides another take on the latest Star Citizen news! With his trademark dry wit, DrHawk is an excellent spokesperson for a great community! DrHawk has aired eight episodes and you can The first episode is embedded below: Be sure and tune in tomorrow for the latest episode of Wingman’s Hangar, featuring Lead Designer Rob Irving!

This week we’re celebrating Star Citizen’s incredible French-speaking community! And at the core of that is Star Citizen Communauté Francophone, a website that features forums, ship and system guides, information about the game and more! Not only that, but every Roberts Space Industries Comm-Link post is reported in French.Star Citizen Communauté Francophone’s design is also beautiful: sleek and fast! It’s an invaluable resource for the French-speaking fan! We’d also like to celebrate Star Pirates, a pirate-oriented French-language website which also reports the latest in Star Citizen news. In keeping with this week’s push to get the Citizen Cards out, Star Pirates has posted a fan-built ‘card generator.’ You can enter your name and card type and get a mockup image of what your card should look like! If you’re waiting on your card, it’s worth checking out! GameStar Interview One special extra this week: on Tuesday we reported about the February GameStarfeature story on Star Citizen. To write the article, a GameStar reporter traveled all the way to Austin, Texas to meet with the team in person. Heinrich Lenhardt was the very first game reporter to make the trek to CIG Austin and so Sandi sat him down to answer a few questions! http://vimeo.com/60038202 And for our many German fans, Sandi also conducted the interview in Heinrich’s native language: http://vimeo.com/60086956 Want to hear more about Star Citizen? Be sure to tune in tomorrow for an all newWingman’s Hangar, live at 11 AM CST (GMT -6.) You’ll meet UI Designer Zane Bien and hear the latest on Star Citizen’s development.

Fan Spotlight Today we’d like to highlight one of the best—and most prolific!—pieces of Star Citizen fan fiction: the “Frank” saga from forum user Gater. Gater started posting his Frank story at the old board, starting here, and it eventually lead to a 27-part serialized adventure! It’s well written, a great adventure and well worth the time spent. That’s not all, though: he’s now doing a follow-up story named after a second character, Sara. Those begin here. Wall of Honor: Lance We would be remiss if we didn’t thank a fan named Lance for the incredible gift that arrived at the office yesterday: three cases of alcohol! No one on the team has ever seen anything like this working in game development… there’s no question that Star Citizen fans are the best in the world. We’ll show more of this incredible gift on this week’s Wingman’s Hanger!

In case you’re wondering: yes, we can be bought! Last week we received a letter addressed to Cloud Imperium Austin from the “Department of Bribery and Sycophancy.” Inside was a kind letter from fan Samuel W., along with a gift card to Torchys , a local taco joint! The letter reads, in part: “The enclosed intergalactic credit chit should be sufficient to fill your place of business with queso. Please accept it with the best wishes of a fan and neighbor. Should this gesture inspire, say, an Imperial Queso Barge to make an appearance, I hereby relinquish all claims on the idea.“ Thank you very much, Citizen! The card did, indeed, treat the Star Citizen team to a delicious lunch… and we snapped some pictures to prove it! We had a great time and we truly appreciate our fans going above and beyond like this… no one in the office could remember anything like this happening at a previous job! Want to hear more about the adventures of the Star Citizen team and our incredible fans? Be sure to tune in tomorrow for an all new Wingman’s Hangar! Wingman will be answering fan questions along with 3D artist Chris Smith. And a great big thanks to Chulak as well, for sending us pizzas after last week’s hangar episode, you guys are simply the BEST! Did we mention how much we like Pork Chop Friday at Perry’s steakhouse? We love you guys!

Today’s fan spotlight goes to the Cassandra’s Tears audiobook serials put together by the team at Tabula Stellarum. Tabula Stellarum is a guild dedicated to exploring space in the Star Citizen universe and a great example of the kind of unique organizations fans are already putting together! While they wait for their ships they’ve started creating excellent audiobook versions of Dave Haddock’s fiction, starting with Cassandra’s tears! If you’ve ever wanted to experience Dave’s Star Citizen prequel stories on the go, this is the way to do it! You can stream the first episode–or download it for listening on the go–here. Episode 1 Episode 2 Episode 3 Episode 4 Episode 5 Tabula Stellarum also puts out a variety of their own Star Citizen fan fiction of the sort we’ll be focusing on in future updates. Have you written a Star Citizen story, or do you know one you’d like to see highlighted here? Let us know in the comments! We’re working overtime getting everyone linked up before we start shipping out citizen cards! If your pledge hasn’t been linked up yet read this forum post for help with the process! Finally, don’t forget to weigh in on the Star Citizen Survey if you haven’t done so already!

The Fan Spotlight is back and we would be remiss if we didn’t celebrate the granddaddy of all Star Citizen fan sites: the Star Citizen Base forums! Star Citizen Base is unquestionably the busiest Star Citizen fan community out there and they provide an attractive and well-organized unofficial forum for fans to gather and talk about the game. The SCB mods do an excellent job of keeping their site running and the Citizens there do a wonderful job of organizing all the disparate news sources about Star Citizen and Squadron 42. While you should always post to the official forums if you want your voice heard, the Cloud Imperium team also watches Star Citizen Base very carefully! Is there a fan or a project you’d like to see in a future Fan Spotlight? Let us know below! And be sure to tune in tomorrow for the next episode of Wingman’s Hangar!

In the past we’ve featured websites and art created by our incredible fans… but today we’re honoring one of the fans themselves. Many of you have distinguished yourselves over the past weeks, but one man in particular has gone above and beyond. That man is David “Pleasure” Brennan, known far and wide in the Star Citizen community for his creative skills and his intense dedication to the game! We were so impressed with his work that we made his “Wingman’s Hangar” logo the symbol of the show. For this spotlight, we’ve asked Pleasure to introduce himself: My name is David Brennan, best known as “Pleasure.” I’m from Germany and I found out about Star Citizen through a German gaming magazine. At first I could not believe it… because it was so long ago that a good space sim was published on the PC and here I was reading that Chris Roberts was doing one! I immediately signed on, I think three days after the Golden ticket (damn!) and started pledging for Star Citizen, spending almost the entire time getting to know the community and the chat guys. I fell in love so deeply with the community and Cloud Imperium that I started to do what I do best: designing logos and wallpaper (inset) for everyone. I also started running contests for people to create themselves and win prizes. I did that so that I could inspire people to create artwork and wallpapers themselves. I also designed some merchandise (see above) and had it made for Wingman and CIG… unfortunately the package still has not arrived! Other than wallpapers, I created some signatures and designed some logos for the various fleets and guilds in the community. And we have created a team, Team Raptor, with Xane, Eddie, Kajisan, Fallarnon and myself… and we’re working on a secret project for the community! I cannot tell you anything about it yet, but it will be awesome! Last but not least, I love this community and Star Citizen… so I have expressed my dedication to this project with a Squadron 42 tattoo! And if you guys rename the game, I will HATE you! Pleasure’s Wingman’s Hangar logo. Now THAT’S dedication! Thank you, Pleasure, for setting the bar high for everyone in this community. We’re floored that we have fans as dedicated as you are and promise to deliver a project worthy of the effort you’ve put into it!

One of the selling points for Star Citizen is that you will be able to mod it straight out of the box, adding your ships own ships and making other changes to the game for your own server. Unlike other games, we’re also going to go further by introducing a system by which players can petition to have their designs reviewed for use on the official server. As it turns out, people are excited about this… so excited that they’re already building their own ships for the Star Citizen universe! One of the most impressive we’ve seen so far is the Svarog Industries Stribog B spacecraft, designed and built by a fan named Oddin! It has an amazing amount of detail both inside and out, from detailed modeling of specific weapons systems to every panel in the ship’s cockpit! He’s even created a Stribog technical PDF in the style of our Constellation update which contains more information about the impressive ship than you’ll ever need! You can access it here and you can follow the Stribog’s development at a forum thread here.
