  1. Per the Monthly Report: September 2014 we will be getting images, videos, Dev posts, etc... about the WIP that CIG is now starting to reveal on the Persistent Universe. We can use this thread to collate all new WIP items about the Persistent Universe like these sister threads: Below are some collated WIP items from the Sep. monthly report specifically on the PU (wanted to summarize these so we can track their WIP on this thread): CIG Austin - Our team has been working hard on Persistent Universe tasks and a multitude of Live Operations activities. ..wrap up Large World “Phase 1” this month as well, which is the first step to getting truly expansive galaxies in place that will literally take days to traverse without quantum travel. ... wrapped up development on the System Layout Tool, which our designers will be using to physically lay out our universe in-game as well as define properties and attributes of various planets and other objects within a solar system. ...completed the first design iteration of Subsumption, Star Citizen’s objective-oriented NPC AI system, and we’ve now moved into full production. ...highly data-driven design, which will in turn eventually allow the constitution of the NPC population and even their daily schedules to be algorithmically determined based upon what’s occurring in the surrounding environment, and heavily contribute to providing the feeling of a living, breathing universe. Some sensational examples we looked into this month include the Dark Nebula, Pulsar, and Ice Giant. ...standardizing our props for environments, investigating how we might incorporate FPS into our planetside locations, and developing reputations for the various corporations within our universe. ...the first planetside location, ArcCorp, up and running. Concept work for our next planetside environment – Terra Prime – is nearing completion, and full production will soon commence. Long before introducing the AMX-1 Repair Bot for personal craft, Saga Datasystems was known for its more industrial designs. The M3-A Multifunction Space Drone has been in service for more than 50 years, and is ideal for performing basic unmanned tasks in and around stations. While never fit with any advanced AI or communications capability, the M3-A is perfectly capable of performing any basic assigned task – from simple repairs to tug functions and the manipulation of heavy mining and cargo containers. Citizen Con 2014 is almost upon us. This year the present and future of Star Citizen will be unveiled in Los Angeles on October 10th. We will be livestreaming a presentation from Chris Roberts to backers around the world that will review what we’ve accomplished to date and then give you a sneak peak and what’s coming up for Star Citizen. ================== There will be a number of reveals about the Persistent Universe soon and please post any reveals, WIP images, vids, dev posts, including any Sandi Leaks - Thanks
  2. So, given the amount of debate around CIG's pricing practices, especially when it comes to new ships, policies about CCUs, etc... we've decided it would be best to keep commentary about said practices OUT of the threads for the specific ships, and in a single thread that members of the SCB community can contribute to. While we want to foster good debate and discussion, this thread WILL be moderated heavily for violations of our forum rules. We know this is a highly charged topic, and that a lot of people have strong feelings both for and against CIG and the pricing practices they have been adopting, but we ask that members display common courtesy and respect when discussing this sensitive topic.
  3. Greetings Citizens! This week’s episode of Happy Hour we’re going back to the Gamedev that started it all. As you know, Star Citizen will need lots of star systems, and those systems will need planets, and those planets will need inhabitants. In this Friday’s Happy Hour: Gamedev, Character Art Director Josh Herman will create the concept of a new creature LIVE with direct input from you, the backers. This is your chance to be a part of the creative process live, as we’ll take suggestions from the chat, and put important decisions up to vote. What creature will you help Josh create this Friday on Happy Hour? Post your initial ideas below, don’t forget to vote on the ones you like, and tune in LIVE this Friday at 12pm PST on http://twitch.tv/starcitizen. The Rules Post only ONE suggestion at a time. Suggestions below should be for types of creatures i.e. birds, fish, tigers, etc. Replies with more than one suggestion skewer the voting and will be removed. You may post as many suggestions as you like, as long as they are in individual replies to the OP. Only post replies to the OP. We are using Nested so we can easily sort your most voted on suggestions, not to have a nested conversation (unfortunately Classic threads cannot be sorted by votes at this time. Nested replies will be removed and thus not considered. Keep your suggestions short. One or two words, max. Brevity is your friend. Suggestions that are too long will be removed and thus not considered. Suggestions can be about any form of creature you can think of. We will be picking the top voted suggestions and creating a hybrid of them. No links or images. You may (and should) vote on as many suggestions you want to see included as you can. Have fun with it. About Josh Herman: Josh Herman is currently the Character Art Director at Cloud Imperium Games, working on Star Citizen and Squadron 42. He arrived at Cloud Imperium Games having specialized in designing, modelling, and sculpting hard surface and organic characters for some of the industry’s biggest films and AAA games as well as commercials, short films, music videos, and rapid prototyped statues and marquettes for client presentations and collectibles. With exceptional skills in ZBrush and Maya he has had experience in Art Direction, Character Development, High Poly Modelling and Sculpting, Designing, Look Development, Retopology, UV Layout, Texturing and Shading. Josh has worked at Legacy Effects on projects such as Real Steel, The Amazing Spider-Man, Total Recall and The Avengers. Josh left Legacy to try his hand at games, working for Naughty Dog on Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. He was then recruited by Marvel Studios, where he worked as Lead Character Artist on films such as Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Solider, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Doctor Strange and others before joining the team here at CIG. LINK I've been chatting with Ziff PHH on Spectrum for his idea of an ambulatory shade tree that follows my herd animals. Predators want a shady place to eat their kill and to launch attacks from, and when they're done eating, the trees ingest the corpse cleaning up the landscape. Could be really cool to watch, plus it solves the problem of players just killing everything that moves and leaving bodies around.
  4. Greetings Citizens Letter from the Chairman - Nov. 26th, 2014 Congratulations on helping us get to $63 million in crowd funding! Many backers have picked up limited or wave two ships during the anniversary sale, and I’m truly grateful. We’ve always stressed that you don’t need anything beyond a basic starter ship to be able to earn anything or go anywhere in the Star Citizen universe, but we acknowledge that the support the community gives by investing in bigger or additional ships allows Star Citizen to deliver a deeper, richer experience much sooner than we could otherwise. In addition your continued support is allowing us to make some smart investments in the world wide team and technology that will safeguard the future of the game. I’ve had a number of backers ask me why I don’t ‘stock pile’ letters and have them ready to go immediately… especially during an event like this. My answer is that I don’t feel right assuming things like that when it comes to backers providing the project with millions of dollars! The letters may take a few extra days now, but they’re always from the heart. The $62 million stretch goal was the penultimate ‘wave four’ ship design: Genesis-class Starliner – The Genesis is yet another landmark in Crusader Industries’ proud history of transport designs. This ship utilizes award-winning manufacturing techniques and the highest quality parts to create one thing; a next-generation passenger ship at a price that won’t break your budget. Crusader Industries’ proprietary NeoG engine technology offers some of the most efficient flight for a ship of its size. The Genesis line has been cited in Whitley’s as “one of the most reliable and safe public transport ships on the market.” Genesis Starliners are available in a number of stock configurations, focusing on everything from passenger capacity to freight to overall comfort. The UEE military operates multiple Genesis conversions for support roles, including SWACS and starflight test operations. I love options like this, because they’re more than just fighting ships. They help us populate a living breathing universe… after all, most people are more likely to encounter 737s than F-22s in their daily lives! For the next goal, a whopping 50% of the vote went to the MISC Reliant to be the third starter ship: MISC Reliant – With the success of the Freelancer “Built for Life” campaign, MISC has moved to join RSI and Consolidated in the single-seat introductory starship arena. Their silver bullet? A starter ship with more than one seat… and their ace in the hole: Xi’An technology. Where the Aurora is a pure utilitarian platform and the Mustang is a delicate, maneuverable personal transport, the Reliant is MISC’s most Xi’An tech-heavy ship to date. Featuring impossibly sleek lines, two separate crew seats and a vertical fuselage design, the Reliant’s streamlined cockpits glow with some of the finest xenotechnology available! And since we’ve already hit $63 million, the Reliant is in the bag! It sounds like backers are interested in seeing more alien technology! That’s one thing Star Citizen will deliver on. As I said last time, never say never for the other concepts… I especially liked the Drake ‘space motorcycle.’ We’ve added a lot of ships lately, and so we’re making the $64 million goal a fun one. Pets – We have repair bots, we have fish… but we haven’t implemented a traditional pet system in Star Citizen yet. At $64 million, that changes. From Jones the Cat in Alien to the Battlestar Galactica’s Daggit, pets have a place onboard starships… and we want to give you that option in Star Citizen. Expect traditional terrestrial options, plus anything exotic we can dream up in the Star Citizen universe! (Those Torshu Grey crabs that keep escaping are just the start.) This stretch goal is in honor of Paddington, Strike Dog of the UEES Paul Steed. In one of our first videos Paddington helped us get to $4 million back in the initial campaign, and sadly passed away recently. For those looking ahead to $65 million, we have a major feature we’re investigating as an option. Suffice it to say, we’ve heard a lot of your feedback about modular ships and we want to expand our plan for how to do them… so check back next letter for more information! I can’t say it enough: thank you. I often finding myself sitting down to play Arena Commander and just admiring what we’ve made together. Sure, we could have done this behind closed doors… but it wouldn’t have had the same heart and soul, and it wouldn’t be coming together in the same way. Arena Commander is a microcosm of Star Citizen: your backing made it possible, your feedback is making it work the way we imagined together… and your belief in what we’re doing here (and patience with real software development!) is going to push us to continuously iterate and improve. As we deliver more aspects of Star Citizen, from first person combat, to planetside exploration to a gripping single player narrative story to planets and star systems you can fly between, I think it will dawn on all of us just how groundbreaking and unprecedented the journey that we are all taking together is. Nothing of this scope has ever been attempted, and never in this fashion. See you in the ‘Verse! — Chris Roberts
  5. Per the Monthly Report: September 2014 we will be getting images, videos, Dev posts, etc... about the WIP that CIG is now starting to reveal on Squadron 42 (but CIG is careful about leaks on S42 because they rightfully don't want to not spoil the story for players - so you may want to view this thread as a SPOILER thread). We can use this thread to collate all new WIP items about Squadron 42 like these sister threads: CIG Did reveal some Squadron 42 items in Citizen Con 2014. Below is a short Vid on the Subin Mining Station that will be in Squadron 42 but you may want to watch the entire presentation (it has more S42 items). Some of these items may end up being posted on other threads but this thread is intended to be a long term research thread where items are collated in one location. We can post other CIG - S42 updates on this thread as we get them (over time) & I did update the sister threads (links above) with additional stuff from CitizenCon 2014 New update - Dev Post We're still in the early stages of deciding how much and what is to be carried across to PU so I can't really go into to much detail but we are extremely considerate of the fact that we don't want to negatively impact the player. We want choices to enrich the player's narrative not to punish them and we want these defining moments to be choices. Not a judgement on player ability. Hope this helps New update - Dev Post

  7. A quick news bulletin as Will Maiden has been talking on Spectrum about how cargo with work with pirates, smuggling and more in the Star Citizen verse. Will also briefly spoke about about how we might see the first iteration of cargo in Star Citizen 3.0. 10. Everyone knows (or should know) that RSI is currently Updating all the Hangars. These updated hangars will be truly transformative compared to what we currently have = Hangar 1.0. They are adding better graphics, PBR, room expansions, decorations, bling, and eventually the connection to the PU - with the Planet Side / Social Module. I wanted to Create a Thread so people can keep up to date with all the Hangar 2.0 News (like we have Ship Threads). Post anything you want on this thread regarding hangars, even sharing what you have currently for decoration, fish in your fish tank, vehicles, share images, photos, etc... The idea with the thread is to show off your home and share new info from the Community and RSI about Hangar 2.0. I'll try to keep this OP up-to-date with relevant Images and Video's that pertain to Hangars 2.0. We will be getting images, videos, Dev posts, etc... about the WIP that CIG is now starting to reveal on the Hangars. We can use this thread to collate all new WIP items about Hangars like these sister (archive) threads: Discount Hangar 2.0 No New Hangar 2.0 Info Yet Business Hangar 2.0 At 26:35m in ATV ep07 Deluxe Hangar 2.0 Asteroid Hangar 2.0 has more images and details ======== And an image just for fun
  11. Couple of cool things this Ben's Day - 3m - Confirmed Anvil Huriccane is the next Concept Ship 14:40m - No answer from Ben yet but @GRIZZ gets his question asked about the Reclaimer being able to land 18:30m - Haven't heard about Hangar updates from awhile but the Modular Hangar rooms are still on the table - like a personal living quarters, map room, etc...
  12. Given the last year hasn't been without its controversies surrounding sales, and also given that CIG continues to have the Combustion pistol as available in the VD store for a higher price than some of the ship-mounted weapons, I have a question for the community: What would be acceptable, in your individual minds, to have in a "FPS Starter Package" for Star Citizen? PLEASE DO NOT DERAIL THIS THREAD by making commentary on the "community", or whether or not selling these kinds of packages would be appropriate for CIG to do, or any other derailment, but keep the discussion as to what you'd think would be "worth it" or what items would be "acceptable" to have in a FPS starter pack. If you don't think such a pack should be offered, feel free to ignore this thread.
  13. We have a totally new paradigm where CIG is selling capital ships like never before. At the Anniversary sale 2016 an unprecedented amount of Idris was offered: 5 batches of 200 ships in each batch for a total of 1000 Capital ships in a single sale. The effect was grave, CIG killed off the demand for this previously rare ship and more than half of the ships remained unsold at the 26th of November -a week after the start of the sale. CIG now decided it was a bad idea to officially state how much they inflate the numbers of capital ships because that killed off the demand. The solution they came up with was to sell 100 Javelins in a stealth batch at the announcement of the final Grand Finale on the 26th November at 1PM PST, this was followed by yet another stealth Javelin batch of 100, none of which is officially mentioned in clear numbers as to not kill off the demand by the enormous volume dilution that these sales represent. It is also interesting to note that of the 450 Javelins that was sold in one week 300 were offered for Cash Only, so this is a clear cash-grab move. This represents a new paradigm in that CIG no longer cares about capital ship rarity, they care only about deceiving backers by not officially stating they they sell 100's and hundreds more ships than the sale description states as to not kill the demand and make the maximum amount on new fresh cash. The Idris and Javelin are no longer rare and powerful capital ships that needs to be kept at a low number. The only rarity concern CIG has is to keep demand high to maximize cash revenue, thus they have started selling capital ships in Stealth Batches that are totally unannounced and for Cash Only. The overselling of capital ships had grave implications. Not only do we now have over twice as many Javelins as before but these ships were available for hours and hours without selling out, a sign that the demand is sated and probably would they have sold out faster CIG would have offered more, as many as the market can bare for mazimum amount of New Cash. I can't imagine the completionist 17500$ Backer that probably justified his pledge level by getting a Javelin that previously was a ship only available in 1-10 sec sales out of a year being happy about that instead of paying 17500 USD before, you could have just taken your time and comfortably within a total of over 24 HRS of javelin availability spent 2700$ for the same ship. What we can abstract from CIG's new marketing tactics is: CIG is not anymore concerned with limiting capital ships for game balance reasons, they are only concerned in keeping demand high. CIG knows rarity is a driving factor for capital ship demand CIG wants to keep the true javelin numbers a secret/the official numbers low to not lower demand CIG peculiarly enough decided to go through with the unanounced 100 Cash Only javelin batch on 1PM PST 26th november at a time where only 50% of Idris had sold out, almost to the dollar making up for the projected loss of profit from the Cash Only Idrises. Using this wonderful forum as a platform I'm going to go on record and make a prediction about where CIG marketing is heading with their capital ship sales going forward. Based on CIG's clear will to sell javelins for cash only in unannounced not officially acknowleadged large volume batches I predict the following: A Holiday Livestream 2016 sale of unannounced Cash only javelins of up to three batches of 100 each adjusted after demand with a possible addition of 50 javelins Store Credit allowed to not upset previous backers too much. The secret sale would be launched at the commensation of the Holiday Livestream at a time with maximum site traffic for maximu sale speed/sales oppurtinity. The sales will not be officially acknowleadged and no numbers of batches of numbers of ships in each batch will be mentioned to keep the image of javelin being a rare ship alive. The goal is to sell as many javelins for cash only as the market can bare. So the prediction is we will se another 350 Javelins sold for a total of 700 javelins sold in 2016. What does this new marketing tactic mean for Capital Ship numbers on launch of the PU? 2012 100 Idris-M sold 2013 150 Idris-P sold 2014 200 Idris-P sold in 4 batches of 50 2015 Introduction of the 2500$ Idris-P containing Armada pack (unknown amount sold commonly predicted thousands) and 100 Idris-P sold 2016 1000 Idris-P sold in 5 batches of 200 So almost a Tenfold increase of the amount sold in previous years in 2016. Extrapolating the new annual sales volumes and using the Roadmap laid out by CR (which is aleady heavily delayed) we are looking at a 2020 PU release at the earliest which gives us 1000 more Idris in 2017, 1000 more Idris in 2018, 1000 more Idris in 2019, and a possible 1000 more Idris in 2020. Total number of Idris at PU release with current sales volumes= 4550 to 5550 plus an unknown amount of Armada packages for a total of a conservative 6000+ estimate. These are not numbers that support a 1250$ price, these ships wil e so common that everyone will aim for one and thus the acquisition time will have to be lowered accordingly and thus the USD convert price from CIG's own UEC ingame store will be much lower than the 1250$ we paid. 2014 200 Javelin sold in 4 batches of 50 2015 200 Javelin sold in 4 batches of 50 (officially excused by a growing number of accounts allowing more to be sold though Turbulent has claimed the real backer numbers when we had 1,5 million accounts was 500 000 persons with 3 accounts each) 2016 250 Javelins sold officially 100 javelins sold off the record, And a prediction of 350 more sold in the anniversary sale Thus in 2020 at PU launch (according to the roadmap laid out in citizencon 2016 this will be the earliest launch date) and taking the new yearly sales volumes into account we will have 400 + 350 + 350 2017 + 350 2018 + 350 2019 = 1550 at the lowest plus the additional completionist owners and my prediciton: 400 + 700 + 700 2017 + 700 2018 + 700 2019 + 700 2020 = 3900 Javelins at PU launch.
