  1. Per the Monthly Report: September 2014 we will be getting images, videos, Dev posts, etc... about the WIP that CIG is now starting to reveal on the Persistent Universe. We can use this thread to collate all new WIP items about the Persistent Universe like these sister threads: Below are some collated WIP items from the Sep. monthly report specifically on the PU (wanted to summarize these so we can track their WIP on this thread): CIG Austin - Our team has been working hard on Persistent Universe tasks and a multitude of Live Operations activities. ..wrap up Large World “Phase 1” this month as well, which is the first step to getting truly expansive galaxies in place that will literally take days to traverse without quantum travel. ... wrapped up development on the System Layout Tool, which our designers will be using to physically lay out our universe in-game as well as define properties and attributes of various planets and other objects within a solar system. ...completed the first design iteration of Subsumption, Star Citizen’s objective-oriented NPC AI system, and we’ve now moved into full production. ...highly data-driven design, which will in turn eventually allow the constitution of the NPC population and even their daily schedules to be algorithmically determined based upon what’s occurring in the surrounding environment, and heavily contribute to providing the feeling of a living, breathing universe. Some sensational examples we looked into this month include the Dark Nebula, Pulsar, and Ice Giant. ...standardizing our props for environments, investigating how we might incorporate FPS into our planetside locations, and developing reputations for the various corporations within our universe. ...the first planetside location, ArcCorp, up and running. Concept work for our next planetside environment – Terra Prime – is nearing completion, and full production will soon commence. Long before introducing the AMX-1 Repair Bot for personal craft, Saga Datasystems was known for its more industrial designs. The M3-A Multifunction Space Drone has been in service for more than 50 years, and is ideal for performing basic unmanned tasks in and around stations. While never fit with any advanced AI or communications capability, the M3-A is perfectly capable of performing any basic assigned task – from simple repairs to tug functions and the manipulation of heavy mining and cargo containers. Citizen Con 2014 is almost upon us. This year the present and future of Star Citizen will be unveiled in Los Angeles on October 10th. We will be livestreaming a presentation from Chris Roberts to backers around the world that will review what we’ve accomplished to date and then give you a sneak peak and what’s coming up for Star Citizen. ================== There will be a number of reveals about the Persistent Universe soon and please post any reveals, WIP images, vids, dev posts, including any Sandi Leaks - Thanks
  2. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/4/thread/3-7-trade-economy-is-a-massive-step-back/2436975 jmuehle.cig@jmuehle_cig Yesterday at 10:50 pm Hi Jack, Thanks for the effort you've put into this, and the passion you have for trading gameplay! I'm glad to hear that you loved the changes with 3.6. As you pointed out, the prices in this 3.7 aren't just close to 3.5 prices, they're exactly 3.5 prices. Due to an oversight, old values for trade routes were added over the values set in 3.6 when we added new inventory for the hand-minable items. We've already taken measures to make sure this kind of thing doesn't happen again in the future. Citizens, rejoice! 3.6 prices will be restored as soon as possible. Your diligence is very much appreciated, and your commitment is exactly what makes Star Citizen great!
  3. and some highlights: Refutation of CryTek's Claims Claim: CIG was only given permission to make "the game" with CryEngine, selling SQ42 standalone is in violation of this. Defense: The GLA defines "the game" as both "'Space Citizen' and its related space fighter game 'Squadron 42'", with a passage allowing for name changes (Space Citizen > Star Citizen). Additionally, this term does not apply to any games made without CryEngine, and CryEngine is no longer used. Claim: CIG violated the GLA by switching from CryEngine to Lumberyard, they are only allowed to "exclusively" use CryEngine. Defense: The GLA says they are given "exclusive rights to use CryEngine" and the right "to exclusively embed CryEngine in the game". The well-established meaning of this wording is that the right is given only to them (and those subcontracted within the terms), not that they are only allowed to use CryEngine. Claim: CIG is no longer displaying CryTek copyright notices in game, in violation of the GLA. Defense: This obligation only applies if CIG is using CryEngine, which they are not. Claim: Ortwin was employed by CryTek prior to becoming CIG's attorney and co-founder so he had a conflict of interest when negotiating the contract. Defense: Ortwin received a signed waiver from CryTek dismissing any conflict of interest. Claim: Confidential source code was shown on Bugsmashers and disclosed to FaceWare in violation of the GLA. Defense: No defense provided, though FaceWare was after the switch to Lumberyard. Claim: CIG was required to provide any bugfixes they developed for CryEngine up until launch. Defense: No defense provided. Additional Statements The GLA prohibits either party from seeking any damages from one another "except for intentional acts or omissions or gross negligent acts". CIG, not RSI, is the signatory of the GLA, so CryTek committed a legal blunder by pursuing RSI rather than CIG in a number of claims. CIG seeks to have the entire complaint dismissed with prejudice (barring any further related action) on the grounds that none of the complaints are sufficient.
  4. Per the Monthly Report: September 2014 we will be getting images, videos, Dev posts, etc... about the WIP that CIG is now starting to reveal on Squadron 42 (but CIG is careful about leaks on S42 because they rightfully don't want to not spoil the story for players - so you may want to view this thread as a SPOILER thread). We can use this thread to collate all new WIP items about Squadron 42 like these sister threads: CIG Did reveal some Squadron 42 items in Citizen Con 2014. Below is a short Vid on the Subin Mining Station that will be in Squadron 42 but you may want to watch the entire presentation (it has more S42 items). Some of these items may end up being posted on other threads but this thread is intended to be a long term research thread where items are collated in one location. We can post other CIG - S42 updates on this thread as we get them (over time) & I did update the sister threads (links above) with additional stuff from CitizenCon 2014 New update - Dev Post We're still in the early stages of deciding how much and what is to be carried across to PU so I can't really go into to much detail but we are extremely considerate of the fact that we don't want to negatively impact the player. We want choices to enrich the player's narrative not to punish them and we want these defining moments to be choices. Not a judgement on player ability. Hope this helps New update - Dev Post
  5. Those in Concierge may have noticed Third's topic on the $0 CCU removal having backfired completely, by formulating the database operation incorrectly. Some $0 CCUs that originally cost money before pricing changes were removed A lot of $0 CCUs that were free, now have a value due to price changes and have been left on accounts.
  6. I'm curious, what is the average salary for a developer at CIG? Doing a quick google search the lowest is around $44k a year to $120k a year for a game developer. This is in the US. CIG has multiple studios around the world which also differentiate the average income. Let's say the average across all studios is $60k a year (a "wild" guess) and they now have around 500 employees. That's $30 million each year. Do we know how much CIG has used on salaries since 2012? I don't know the math here since I don't know all the numbers, but my wild guess would be around $80-90 million since 2012. If you add properties and other costs I'm thinking we are around $130 million in total. Giving them a $70 million + buffer, which is a 2 year salary guarantee for those 500 employees. If this is even close, I feel comfort in knowing the funding is still going strong and they have at least 2 years to finish it up if money stops flowing.
  7. MISC - Lore, Details and Design is a thread to understand specifics / Lore, Details and Design from the ship Manufacturer MISC. See sister threads: Anvil Aerospace - Lore, Details and Design
  8. ATV #49 had a great Ship Shape segment for: Anvil Aerospace - Lore, Details and Design Thought this deserved its own thread for those people learning about Star Citizen later on (new backers) - where it might be easier to find.

  11. Everyone knows (or should know) that RSI is currently Updating all the Hangars. These updated hangars will be truly transformative compared to what we currently have = Hangar 1.0. They are adding better graphics, PBR, room expansions, decorations, bling, and eventually the connection to the PU - with the Planet Side / Social Module. I wanted to Create a Thread so people can keep up to date with all the Hangar 2.0 News (like we have Ship Threads). Post anything you want on this thread regarding hangars, even sharing what you have currently for decoration, fish in your fish tank, vehicles, share images, photos, etc... The idea with the thread is to show off your home and share new info from the Community and RSI about Hangar 2.0. I'll try to keep this OP up-to-date with relevant Images and Video's that pertain to Hangars 2.0. We will be getting images, videos, Dev posts, etc... about the WIP that CIG is now starting to reveal on the Hangars. We can use this thread to collate all new WIP items about Hangars like these sister (archive) threads: Discount Hangar 2.0 No New Hangar 2.0 Info Yet Business Hangar 2.0 At 26:35m in ATV ep07 Deluxe Hangar 2.0 Asteroid Hangar 2.0 has more images and details ======== And an image just for fun
  12. Apparently it seems that Crytek wants a piece of the cake after the success CIG brought with using the founding elements of CryEngine. They now are suing for copyright infringement. I feel like this is a last dick move to try and save themselves before they finally go under. https://www.scribd.com/document/367101474/Crytek-v-CIG
  13. CIG cancelled due to technical difficulties. will show tomorrow, 22 Dec. I cannot defend them in public over this after they've had a literal freaking year to get their shit together.
  14. While Gamescon and Citizencon have impressive presentations....... the big sale (where almost every ship goes on sale - though sometimes limited ships do not - but every year they seem to release a small allotment of Idris P and Javalin ships). Thought this also deserved its own thread and maybe post on what ships you hope to get to fill out your pledge? This image below looks like a new Anvil Ship?? *** Note it is called "Anniversary Special" this year instead of "Anniversary Sale"...... I guess they are trying out a new marketing pitch...

  16. I quit reading Rollingstone decades ago, but found these. yesterday's article: Squadron 42 Will Not be at This Year's CitizenCon Event, The Annual 'Star Citizen' Convention Squadron 42, the single player component of Star Citizen, will not be at the upcoming Citizen Con event in Frankfurt, Germany. companion article from Late August 2017 'Star Citizen': A Peek at Planetside Gameplay - The Alpha 3.0 update is scheduled to launch next month.
  17. After asking who designed the 600i yesterday, this morning, I find a message in my Spectrum mailbox: The 600i design is my favorite ship design so far - even the interior is nice - and I ask who designed it - (by "Hobbit", I refer to Hobbes and "human designer" means as opposed to in-lore Origin designers) Also, CIG so far has freely, sometimes proudly disclosed who the designer(s) of a ship are, so how is this an offensive question? This response is perplexing and annoying me. Has anyone had any success appealing mod actions on the SC forum? I've talked to a few mods on CIG's forum in the Years past and most of them were real friendly and actually talk regularly with the community in threads. But this guy is either real dark or English isn't his first language? idk... : : Don't really care about the 48 hours, I just don't feel like even being on a forum, where asking a question gets you probated.
  18. There hasn't been one of these in awhile. .... Ben has been having issues with his eye. ... but looks to be recovering. The only SC comment is at the end when he talks about his excitement about the next two concept sales...
  19. So, given the amount of debate around CIG's pricing practices, especially when it comes to new ships, policies about CCUs, etc... we've decided it would be best to keep commentary about said practices OUT of the threads for the specific ships, and in a single thread that members of the SCB community can contribute to. While we want to foster good debate and discussion, this thread WILL be moderated heavily for violations of our forum rules. We know this is a highly charged topic, and that a lot of people have strong feelings both for and against CIG and the pricing practices they have been adopting, but we ask that members display common courtesy and respect when discussing this sensitive topic.
  20. Greetings Citizens! This week’s episode of Happy Hour we’re going back to the Gamedev that started it all. As you know, Star Citizen will need lots of star systems, and those systems will need planets, and those planets will need inhabitants. In this Friday’s Happy Hour: Gamedev, Character Art Director Josh Herman will create the concept of a new creature LIVE with direct input from you, the backers. This is your chance to be a part of the creative process live, as we’ll take suggestions from the chat, and put important decisions up to vote. What creature will you help Josh create this Friday on Happy Hour? Post your initial ideas below, don’t forget to vote on the ones you like, and tune in LIVE this Friday at 12pm PST on http://twitch.tv/starcitizen. The Rules Post only ONE suggestion at a time. Suggestions below should be for types of creatures i.e. birds, fish, tigers, etc. Replies with more than one suggestion skewer the voting and will be removed. You may post as many suggestions as you like, as long as they are in individual replies to the OP. Only post replies to the OP. We are using Nested so we can easily sort your most voted on suggestions, not to have a nested conversation (unfortunately Classic threads cannot be sorted by votes at this time. Nested replies will be removed and thus not considered. Keep your suggestions short. One or two words, max. Brevity is your friend. Suggestions that are too long will be removed and thus not considered. Suggestions can be about any form of creature you can think of. We will be picking the top voted suggestions and creating a hybrid of them. No links or images. You may (and should) vote on as many suggestions you want to see included as you can. Have fun with it. About Josh Herman: Josh Herman is currently the Character Art Director at Cloud Imperium Games, working on Star Citizen and Squadron 42. He arrived at Cloud Imperium Games having specialized in designing, modelling, and sculpting hard surface and organic characters for some of the industry’s biggest films and AAA games as well as commercials, short films, music videos, and rapid prototyped statues and marquettes for client presentations and collectibles. With exceptional skills in ZBrush and Maya he has had experience in Art Direction, Character Development, High Poly Modelling and Sculpting, Designing, Look Development, Retopology, UV Layout, Texturing and Shading. Josh has worked at Legacy Effects on projects such as Real Steel, The Amazing Spider-Man, Total Recall and The Avengers. Josh left Legacy to try his hand at games, working for Naughty Dog on Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. He was then recruited by Marvel Studios, where he worked as Lead Character Artist on films such as Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Solider, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Doctor Strange and others before joining the team here at CIG. LINK I've been chatting with Ziff PHH on Spectrum for his idea of an ambulatory shade tree that follows my herd animals. Predators want a shady place to eat their kill and to launch attacks from, and when they're done eating, the trees ingest the corpse cleaning up the landscape. Could be really cool to watch, plus it solves the problem of players just killing everything that moves and leaving bodies around.
  21. Greetings Citizens Letter from the Chairman - Nov. 26th, 2014 Congratulations on helping us get to $63 million in crowd funding! Many backers have picked up limited or wave two ships during the anniversary sale, and I’m truly grateful. We’ve always stressed that you don’t need anything beyond a basic starter ship to be able to earn anything or go anywhere in the Star Citizen universe, but we acknowledge that the support the community gives by investing in bigger or additional ships allows Star Citizen to deliver a deeper, richer experience much sooner than we could otherwise. In addition your continued support is allowing us to make some smart investments in the world wide team and technology that will safeguard the future of the game. I’ve had a number of backers ask me why I don’t ‘stock pile’ letters and have them ready to go immediately… especially during an event like this. My answer is that I don’t feel right assuming things like that when it comes to backers providing the project with millions of dollars! The letters may take a few extra days now, but they’re always from the heart. The $62 million stretch goal was the penultimate ‘wave four’ ship design: Genesis-class Starliner – The Genesis is yet another landmark in Crusader Industries’ proud history of transport designs. This ship utilizes award-winning manufacturing techniques and the highest quality parts to create one thing; a next-generation passenger ship at a price that won’t break your budget. Crusader Industries’ proprietary NeoG engine technology offers some of the most efficient flight for a ship of its size. The Genesis line has been cited in Whitley’s as “one of the most reliable and safe public transport ships on the market.” Genesis Starliners are available in a number of stock configurations, focusing on everything from passenger capacity to freight to overall comfort. The UEE military operates multiple Genesis conversions for support roles, including SWACS and starflight test operations. I love options like this, because they’re more than just fighting ships. They help us populate a living breathing universe… after all, most people are more likely to encounter 737s than F-22s in their daily lives! For the next goal, a whopping 50% of the vote went to the MISC Reliant to be the third starter ship: MISC Reliant – With the success of the Freelancer “Built for Life” campaign, MISC has moved to join RSI and Consolidated in the single-seat introductory starship arena. Their silver bullet? A starter ship with more than one seat… and their ace in the hole: Xi’An technology. Where the Aurora is a pure utilitarian platform and the Mustang is a delicate, maneuverable personal transport, the Reliant is MISC’s most Xi’An tech-heavy ship to date. Featuring impossibly sleek lines, two separate crew seats and a vertical fuselage design, the Reliant’s streamlined cockpits glow with some of the finest xenotechnology available! And since we’ve already hit $63 million, the Reliant is in the bag! It sounds like backers are interested in seeing more alien technology! That’s one thing Star Citizen will deliver on. As I said last time, never say never for the other concepts… I especially liked the Drake ‘space motorcycle.’ We’ve added a lot of ships lately, and so we’re making the $64 million goal a fun one. Pets – We have repair bots, we have fish… but we haven’t implemented a traditional pet system in Star Citizen yet. At $64 million, that changes. From Jones the Cat in Alien to the Battlestar Galactica’s Daggit, pets have a place onboard starships… and we want to give you that option in Star Citizen. Expect traditional terrestrial options, plus anything exotic we can dream up in the Star Citizen universe! (Those Torshu Grey crabs that keep escaping are just the start.) This stretch goal is in honor of Paddington, Strike Dog of the UEES Paul Steed. In one of our first videos Paddington helped us get to $4 million back in the initial campaign, and sadly passed away recently. For those looking ahead to $65 million, we have a major feature we’re investigating as an option. Suffice it to say, we’ve heard a lot of your feedback about modular ships and we want to expand our plan for how to do them… so check back next letter for more information! I can’t say it enough: thank you. I often finding myself sitting down to play Arena Commander and just admiring what we’ve made together. Sure, we could have done this behind closed doors… but it wouldn’t have had the same heart and soul, and it wouldn’t be coming together in the same way. Arena Commander is a microcosm of Star Citizen: your backing made it possible, your feedback is making it work the way we imagined together… and your belief in what we’re doing here (and patience with real software development!) is going to push us to continuously iterate and improve. As we deliver more aspects of Star Citizen, from first person combat, to planetside exploration to a gripping single player narrative story to planets and star systems you can fly between, I think it will dawn on all of us just how groundbreaking and unprecedented the journey that we are all taking together is. Nothing of this scope has ever been attempted, and never in this fashion. See you in the ‘Verse! — Chris Roberts
