Well, I think it's not so much about the speed, it's about how much your ping DROPS from going from the outdated telephony // ADSL system to the direct connect Fibre.

Think of yourself as one of the lucky "privileged few" in Australia that will have Fibre To The Premises (FTTP). Most around Aust will be getting a mix of Fibre To the Node (FTTN) which means we will still be on the old ADSL system, just instead of the line being 1-3Kms long it 'should be' no longer then 800m...

My area (Kalgoorlie) is scheduled to get the NBN installed from this time next year, I just hope they put in this 'new' version they've come up with where there's Fibre to within 150m of your home (AND they'll give you the option of paying for the last 150m to be put in as fibre to your premises), it's supposed to be cheaper then Fibre To The Node so fingers crossed that's what we'll get.
