  1. Tho old hangars were more resource intensive and had memory leaks all over, the hangars for the most part are much more optimized now then they were. Having seen first hand personally that my 290 gets much better numbers than were advertised in that article on the version he tested I was getting no less than double the numbers he listed, the video I posted was just a reference and was the only one i could find with a similar setup. And another thing to note is if you go back and look at his previous SC benchmarks he got better numbers with a 290x one a much earlier version of the game with a slightly worse PC, by about 30% average frames...to me that seems highly suspect. but then this is why you don't do benchmark reviews on games that are still in alpha as optimization changes from build to build. Regardless my 290 has never performed as bad as his 290x did and like i said his PC is better. Here is a video of a more up to date benchmark again, as you can see the results are much higher than the ones in the article. It should be noted that he is comparing a 290X to a 980 here, not really a fair comparison as the 980 was a much newer card, by that logic you could grab a R9 390x for the same price as a 980, but you are still gonna get about a 5-10 fps gain if you run a 980, whether or not driver support can make up that gap later who knows but for now 980 is king, closest competitor is 295x2 but when it does out perform the 980 its only by about 5% and the price really doesn't justify it and the 980 still outperforms the 295x2 on most tests. Intel+Nvidia = just better.
  2. Approx 10,000 visible galaxies
  3. Ah the pillars of creation, truly one of the most awe inspiring pictures I have ever seen it is among my background pictures in my rotation. A personal favorite of mine is the Ultra Deep Field, shows the furthest most dimmest light we have ever seen from the earliest time in the universe as we know it and a video to show you how small of an area we are looking at compared to what we see when we look up at the night sky. they just released a new infrared version as well its the second one. It is the highest most deep shot of our universe we have ever seen. It amazes me to think that every speck of light in these photos is another galaxy. And the one you were talking about, in comparison the are of the sky this picture covers would be the size of a dime when viewed from 75 feet away, just shows you how vast the universe is and how small we are compared to it.
  4. These were shown at E3 but just released publicly this week, its different from the teaser they released.
  5. Excellent news, I am glad to see they were burning the midnight oil to get this out as close to as they said as possible.
  6. Banned for not using the proper capitalization of I and for the excessive use of periods...
  7. Banned for using the word legit.
  8. @VoA I love Teller's videos, seems odd though that he didn't wait to do the new model instead of the old one.
  9. Yes, I watched it on Nasa TV, was at 8:55pm EDT, now we wait for it to beam all the awesome information and pictures back to us, I'd check back tomorrow I am sure there will be tons of stuff by then to see. And just to add, sitting there watching it I couldn't help but feel an overwhelming sense of pride and joy in what is truly a great achievement for mankind, we have now reached the farthest parts of our solar system. I hope they decide to continue the mission and push forward and see what really lies beyond the frontiers of our known solar system, the Kuiper Belt is next up and there is some truly fascinating things to explore there.
  10. Thanks @WarWulf that actually makes it look a lot more tidy, I knew there must have been some limitation, because the way I had originally tried to post it was meant to look very much like it is now. @Rellim I wasn't meaning to sound argumentative, its just that telling someone to make it better next time doesn't really tell me what needs changing, I am new, so like in @WarWulf's case he told me exactly what I could do to make it better, that is my meaning. Sorry if it sounded like I was being defensive.
  11. if you have something constructive to add then I am glad to hear it, this kind of reply doesn't really help. I even tried to post them separately but it all got lumped together, so that might be a suggestion for the website creators. I have gone through and removed as much of the embedded formatting as I could, usually I like to leave the content I post as it is seen in its source, this is not a lack of formatting on my part, it is intended. Yes I 100% agree, this is the only true fix that will keep the playing field level, but they seem hesitant to throw them out at the present time, hopefully with thoughtful and logical discourse they can be persuaded.
  12. Oh I wasn't conceding that I had made a mistake, the website has a specific embed function for just this purpose for Youtube videos and such. I am just relaying somewhat harder to find information and compressing it together to save people the time to go through and track it all down themselves, most people consider that useful.
  13. Well I did go and find all the separate posts and bunch them together, so it saves people time, as stated the RSI forums are at times somewhat hard to dissect. The yellow part is unavoidable can't change the color sadly it makes it all highlighted and worse, perhaps someone knows how, but how very diplomatic of you... Added, additionally there souce button to the side takes you directly to the forum page of the person he quoted the little grey [source] button, but i added one to the top of the post as well.
  14. Awesome @Weyoun, nice question man!
  15. Head on over and watch the video instructions are in the description, good luck!
  16. Nope I don't think they will take that long at all, I think 4-5 years is about what we can expect barring any large production or design delays, I think people need to remember that what we can see is not necessarily how far the game is along, most of the time ( I am speaking from experience here) the devs are playing on a build of the game several patches ahead of what we are playing with, once they feel they can get all that new content to a place where it makes sense to test, then we will see it. I fully expect that once they nail down these fps blockers that the flow of content will pick up significantly, as they have stated there is so much included in that version of the game already because they weren't expecting a delay, only after considerable outcry from the community did they consider to make the extra effort to go back and release the thing that aren't dependent on the fps module working properly. Luckily, there are lots of really good games coming up this fall , so we should have plenty to occupy ourselves with until we can get into the meat of all this new upcoming content in Star Citizen. I think another thing that has to be realized by people talking about development time frames, is that all the games listed in that list are mmorpgs, they are painstakingly hand crafted games, where everything is hand made down to the smallest asset, texture or pixel. Games like Star Citizen rely heavily on procedural generation, which wasn't in heavy use when the vast majority of the games started development, further more it is quite hard to create story driven, meaningful game play with procedural generation and MMORPG's tend to rely on that sort of thing, so they have to write scripts and do thousands of hours of narrative, voice over work, writing etc. While I think Star Citizen is going to have plenty of this sort of stuff I think its going to be mostly confined to SQ42 and its chapters. The reason I bring this up, is because the amount of time that is saved when you don't have to go and hand craft every little detail in your game's universe, you save a lot of time and while everyone may not be a fan of procedural generation, its is one of the main reasons this game won't take 10 years to develop.
  17. Uhh..I mean..what? WoW did, maybe Everquest I can't quite remember. Guild wars 2 used 3 different engines Havok and GW 1's engine and Umbra Swtor and ESO used HeroEingine and Star citizen used CryEngine that seems far from "most" to me, and even then vanilla WOW was rumored to be built on a torn down WC3 engine, so in reality almost none of these games engines were built from scratch at all.
  18. Awesome news, I love that the progress part is so much bigger than the blockers part, really shows how much headway they are making. It feels close now, it didn't really before no matter how much they assured us, but now I can say it feels like we are closing in on it.
  19. And yet people will still say they are ignoring the problem and refusing to communicate. what he states is absolutely the truth its alpha controller balance is a none issue right not, the priority is not to be out there having fun (although fun as a by product is always welcomed) we are there to see how the development is coming along and we are rewarded for our backing the project by getting to see this stuff months and months before its ready and then months more before it is release quality, we get to test provide feedback and help shape the game.
  20. Its a valid concern for sure and while this post may not be about controller balance it is about concerns, and that one seems to be chief among them right now. I agree that in its current iteration it will be hard to balance one control type without seriously affecting the other, since Controller and Joystick suffer from the same faults I will group them as one in the same. I fell that the sim community needs to flex a little bit here, aim assist is probably going to be a thing in the not to distant future, it just seems like the next logical course of action, my hope is that they find a way to make it as conspicuous as possible, I mean the current talk about "Missile Commander" is much of the same there is just no skill involved in waiting for target lock and pressing a button, but then there is a defense against that, perhaps they could add a chaff like ability from Elite dangerous where it scrambles the targeting computers making it almost impossible to keep your gimbals locked on target, this would have no affect on fixed weapons or manually aimed turrets of course. The only other option I can see is getting rid of fly-2-aim or gimbals. you can have one but not both, maybe make them mutually exclusive computers that take up the same slot on board your ship, or just remove the mechanic all together, if people want to fly with mouse so be it but make them have to aim with their nose like everyone else. In that case though they would have to remove Track IR aiming as well, so this could be a double edged sword. Either way I am confident CIG will find some sort of compromise that will anger as few people as possible and keep the game fair and fun.
  21. See this is the thing that people fail to understand, you haven't paid for a game, you paid to help get it developed, the direction they choose to take is ultimately up to them, that is the inherent risk of crowdfunding, just as many people if not more have backed because they want it one way or another who is to say who has more right or is more right? lots of people want aim-2-fly and point to shoot ( I am not one of these people), but these people all want to play the game just as much as we do. This is more like them saying you can have your SUV with a soft top or a hard top, the choice is yours but both exist, some would argue that hard tops are better while some would prefer the soft top, more choice is a good thing no? So long as all the choices end up fair and balanced. Its funny that you mention the original Kickstarter video because I use that video all the time, he uses freelancer as one of the examples of how hes going to craft the game and he really doesn't put any limitations on controls or mention them at all really. At the end of the day, all we can hope for is a balanced mix of options that allow people to play the game they want, how they want to play it, if your not a fan of mouse flying that is fine, so long as its balanced it shouldn't really matter what other people choose. there are lots of posts out there about the pros and cons to M+K some have a lot of merit others not so much, but I think in the grand scheme of things Dog fighting isn't gonna be the whole game, who knows what flying a idris will be like, maybe it won't be even a good idea to fly it with a joystick or hotas just because if the different flight controls and all the added options and benefits of being at a console rather than a cockpit, I am sure it will be possible, but who knows if it will be optimal or not, they have to do what makes sense, your not exactly gonna dog fight in a frigate
  22. I never said you stated you were defending them, it just sorta seemed like it to me, and I wanted to be sure. It does clarify it a little, Thanks. Well now that hes done with SQ 42 shoot hopefully he will have time to resume the monthly letter and make sure the lines of communication remain open to us. Okay, this one is a bit harder to dismiss out of hand, I would argue that its not simply "click to win" as you still have to aim your gimbals manually and that just having bigger weapons doesn't necessarily mean you're going to win. He said " Nothing like freelancer, sadly..." "mouse control, guns target for you" now while this is half true, there is mouse flying in the game right now, but the guns don't target for you so there is some context there that has to be recognized. There is a pretty big part of the community (maybe even a majority) that wants this game to be freelancer 2, its hard to make everyone happy no matter what decision you make, your bound to piss at least a few people off. Best you can do is try and anger as few as possible and balance everything the best you can down the road. If you watch it to the end he does go on to say " All I can say for sure is, absolutely your going to have cockpits... and we'll see about the other stuff" now I think he may have been only talking about the camera and cockpit view stuff but if this is any indication, there was a lot of stuff still up in the air, again I just don't feel this qualifies as a promise that has been broken, merely a change in design philosophy, due to what I can only asssume is primarily community feedback.
