  2. Hello all, just dropped an app. Have been following star citizen for some time now waiting for 3.0 to drop (and growing old in the process). This seamed like a good time to try and jump in with a decent group of players and official forums seamed to point in this direction. My background in digital crack addiction includes most big name MMO's, League, and World of Tanks (where I frequented top 10 rosters). Ive kinda given all of that up for something more expansive and persistent, which led me to Star Citizen. I pledged the $10 monthly subscription, and after several beer's ended up saying F*** it and dropped the 100 or so dollars on something larger than the jinky starter packs (the Freelancer to be more on point). On a more personal note, I am a full time student at the University of South Florida. I'm majoring in computer science, and have a growing back ground in many object oriented programming languages. I spent over a decade in the U.S. Army, deploying on and off to Afghanistan and Iraq several times... which is paying for all of my schooling. I spend most of my time now working on school stuff and farting around in the verse and in other games waiting for 3.0 to grow out of PTU. I play games for the social interaction, with the MMO's it was guilds, in tanks in was clans, and here im hoping that communities like yours make the social aspect of playing this game more enriching than what ive come to know from major MMO titles. I mean crewing a capitol ship... you cant get much more social than that.

Thank you, GeraldEvans! Also, if (when) Electronic Warfare gets implemented, Imperium might want to look at either creating an EWar unit, or incorporate Heralds into regular military units. Just a thought.

It's a good plan @Corwan. Also, never worry about thread necro. These ship specific threads exist for a reason, and we'd rather have people keeping things together as opposed to making new threads.

Feels like I'm resurrecting an old topic (that'd make me a Forum Necromancer?), but it's been a while since someone posted here, and there was more information on the Herald and it's uses in the meantime. I'm actually planning to use Herald as my secondary ship (next to Cutlass Black) and run/steal/hack information. It appears the Herald will indeed be able to snoop on transmitted data. The operator will then need to isolate and decode the valuable information in order to gain value. At least that is what I understood from the Herald's intro footage. On top of that, it would appear the concept of Electronic Warfare will eventually make it into the game, possibly allowing Herald to become an important element even in military conflicts. After all, what good is it to have a Javelin on standby when its systems are being disrupted by a damned hacker? Thoughts?

  7. This was really well done! I hope to capture some very interesting footage while roaming the 'Verse and share it with the community. I just like how he kept the scenes tame and calm to match the narrative.

  8. First off, I would like to thank you for your service and welcome you home. It is nice to hear that is paying off for you in the way of school finances. Furthermore, welcome to the Base. Imperium has been a great place for me to call home and I hope you find it the same. Good luck and we'll see you out there.

  9. I believe so but the best way to know is go to the ship upgrades page. Uncheck the box in the left window(Upgrade From) that says "My Ships", Pick the ship you want in the right window (Upgrade to) and see if it generates an Upgrade. I would say go one step further and make sure you can purchase the upgrade first. (You can always melt it and rebuy it with credit from the melt if needed) I say do it this way because you want to be sure the ship you want is currently available to be upgraded to, this way you will be sure because it will be in your account before you get the LTI base ship. Also be careful, this may not apply to you because you seem new, but the old $0 CCU's have been somewhat limited so always best to check in the ship upgrades page first. Might I ask what is the final LTI ship you are looking to get?? Is it the Freelancer or something else? You used the Freelancer as an example. I ask because if the final ship is more than $90 (90 because I am assuming you have credit sunk into the current package) then you are better off buying the Hawk from CIG (no risk, no markup) with LTI and then upgrading that.

  10. I think it is by design. The only reason the stand-alones have LTI at concept is to loophole around the "No More LTI" promise to old backers. While new backers have an option to get LTI using bases for more expensive ships.

  11. It's a rookie's mistake CCUing straight away and not waiting until you are 100% and the CCUed ship is still ages away from being flyable. Also You could get some free USD after certain ships go up in price. It is strange that nothing new is (single ship) package for LTI (excluding multi-ship packages). Yeah, just one package to be able to play the game.

  12. Yep, I'm just gonna melt my package, then rebuy it, but not upgrade it. I'll use my store credits to upgrade my new LTI ship.

  13. If you melt your package and upgrade a LTI base you will no longer have a game package that is required to play the game, just want to make sure that is clear. Most people who CCU ships have a separate game package also.

  14. Well, I don't know any packages with LTI that are cheap, unless someone you know or in your org really.

  15. I take it you already have a game package too?

  16. It's ridiculous to compare pledge prices with in-game UEC prices. As expensive as pledge ships are, they're nothing compared to the UEC prices in-game. Firstly, CIG has stated that low tier ships will triple in price when converted to UECs. For example, a F7C Hornet costs $110, and backers can buy 110,000 UECs for $110. Whereas CIG said that the F7C's UEC price in-game will be 300,000 UECs. Second, the $$ to UECs multiplier will increase exponentially with higher tier ships. For example, the $2500 Javelin Destroyer is rumoured to cost 25,000,000 UECs! That's 10x the $$ price instead of 3X. That would mean the $650 Hammerhead could be 6,500,000 UECs. That's equal to 21.67 F7Cs. I estimate the Fighter Fist will only require 15 fighters. And a Raven + Eclipse + (3 x S9 torpedoes) should be even more effective and cost effective than the Fighter Fist. I estimate the Raven's $$ price would be $250, which equates to 750,000 UECs. The Eclipse's $$ price was $275, so it would be 825,000 UECs. Combined they'd be 1/4 the cost of a Hammerhead.

  17. This could be a whole other topic, and I would enjoy it. Turret design in Star Citizen suffers from some unique challenges when compared to a game like Planet side 2, which I am not very familiar with. But, after reading this I watched about an hour of video looking at how turrets worked in that game. Some challenges that SC faces are: 1. Fighters seem more mobile. 2. Projectiles are visible. 3. Combat against ships with turrets happens at much longer range (it is really hard to see the fighter), giving a longer time to avoid incoming fire. 4. Game is balanced to be fun from the Star Fighter perspective, it is Chris Roberts and it is Squadron 42 too. This makes it hard to change many of the traits that make Star Fighters survivable and potent. It will be interesting. I completely agree with you, that turret positions have to be fun. I also agree that NPCs and AI turrets sound far less interesting than giving incentives to players to take roles.

  18. Tbh I won't try to buy an LTI Aurora or mustang they have a huge price rate. Think the X1 and Nox are two of the LTI cheap ship bases. http://mrfats.mobiglas.com/search?q=all ships and https://www.reddit.com/r/Starcitizen_trades/new/ Be very VERY careful when buying of people there. Only buy from stores and people with a good rep ( over 10-20 sales), even then there is always a risk. Also vehicles can't be used with CCU ships.

  21. Don't apply your CCU until it is necessary as if you do and melt it you lose the CCU and just have the basic ship. However, if you melt a CCU (unapplied) you can buy it back anytime.

  22. > can I then upgrade it to say a MISC Freelancer, and still keep LTI on that ship? YES > then melt my ship(that was upgraded) and use the store credit to upgrade the gifted ship with LTI and it still keep LTI? YES

  24. And the Hammerhead costs what, $650, $550 with Warbond? Ok I looked it up, and that's right. How much will your 7 fighters (if they outfit the Hammerhead with 7 crew as suggested) cost? Far more, I'd wager. It could be less, but if you have a lineup of the < $100 fighters and beat the Hammerhead, I'd be even more impressed. Or Reavern's Fighter Fist? So, so much more. The fact is that the Hammerhead does more with less people and fewer resources than just about any other ship. Certainly more at its primary role. Or at least, that's how CIG has presented it to us. They still have a lot of turret balancing to do. Just remember, large and capital ships need to be "worth it" compared to everyone flying a single-seater, or else the game breaks down. They should only not be this effective if crewed by AI crew. So even if the seven most skilled fighter pilots in the 'verse can't take out a Hammerhead crewed by seven average players, without the use of non-fighters, I would not agree that a nerf is appropriate. Just saying this in advance. Oh yeah one more thing. Just from playing Planetside 2, and having gunned that games' Galaxies and Liberators fairly often. The most skilled single seater pilots in the game can't really take one out by themselves with a competent pilot and gunner. Life is many times cheaper there, so the balance concerns are different, but the skill-based task of putting a turret on the best fighter pilot players in the game is not difficult for an average gunner. It remains to be seen if CIG can make the turrets aim as well as they do in PS2 though.

A few sites (IGN included) say PS4 and PC at a later date, but nothing that was updated recently confirms this.

  27. Well smugglers always want to maintain good standing, hence the smuggling. Have you ever not declared goods purchased when entering your country- well you're a smuggler IRL But at its core it's a selfish endeavor, even if you're a courier you're still getting paid to smuggle. It's sort of a grey area right? I mean are you bringing in banned tech or drugs? But I could see myself paying a go between to fence goods because I don't want to leave the PvP area.
